I'm going through all of Ed's old songs, the ones that made me fall in love with him and music in the first place, and they make me feel just like I did when I first heard them 5 years ago. This was one of my favourites, I loved them all, but this and a few others just really got to me 5 years ago. It's 4 in the morning, I haven't been to sleep yet but I just can't get over how amazing Ed has always been.
I have a feeling that he wrote his older songs straight from the heart with a lot of emotion embedded in them and nowdays he does more mainstream and that's ok but the difference is obvious
But guys this only aply with the singles, for example the ÷ album has shape of you as a single (mainstream song etc) but the album also has songs like "supermarket flowers" and "save myself" that is so intimate and personal, even castle on the hill that is also a single too. People focus too much in one or two mainstream songs in the album and forget about the others 10 songs that is not
Well, he does have critics but they don't hate him. They just can't. He's just too lovable and amazing. Way to go Ed, making the world a better place with your voice.
We, girls, sometimes have problems with our weight or body. 'I'll stop eating food' for the ones who have issues with eating disorders and weight problems... ( I think..?) 'And I'll squeeze into a dress so I can be like you' 'And then I'll see your bitterness....etc' When we don't feel confident about our body's, flaws and curves, he means, 'And I'll squeeze into a dress' like he will go through what you ( or she.) Is going through with her insecurity... and things that most people don't understand about being insecure.. Listen to the end of the song :) The song is basically about a woman her insecuritys and how (ed) would help her get over them, or feel the things she feels. Everyone is beautiful in there own way, So for the ones who don't understand what this song is about, I hope this cleares it up a bit. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me. And please don't mind my grammer, I'm just dutch 14 year old girl ! (not my acc btw)
One of my favorites ever. I think this song isn't cute or sweet I think it's pretty twisted. I think he was in love with this girl he'd do anything for and then she leaves him. He misses he so much he starts to put himself in her shoes but then he sees how much of a bitter bitch she is and then he grows bitter too and she comes back for him once he's a duller person.
I read almost the opposite. He loved her, and she left, but it's only after that, when he tries to see things from her perspective that he understands that is was him that made her bitter. It seems like neither one understood the other, he thought she didn't love him back, so was insecure and frustrated and because of the way that made him behave, she thought he didn't love her. It wasn't until he looked back that he realised she loved him too. The fact that the last line uses 'loved' in the past tense implies it was during their relationship, and the use of 'now' establishes that he only realises in the present, after the relationship ends.
I always saw this, but then I looked at the song again today and maybe it's about anorexia? I mean... he has to "stop eating food" and he see's her "bitterness" (which will come from not having a healthier lifestyle) and he asks to go back to Albert Road, which is probably where he lived her when he met her, or they met there. He states he did this on purpose, and maybe he did it so she would get help, and once she did she realised what he did and now she "loves me too".
Ed is the rainy day....He makes you stay inside (to listen to him all day).....after listenin to him you can fall asleep peacefully and a rainbow forms and ed's always cold so then you automatically feel cold with him...and his voice is as perfect as the raindrops themselves

So he's saying all these things because he wants to try and see the relationship for her point of view and essentially why she wanted to go. But this is coupled with him missing her and wanting to wear her clothes and be like her so she's still a part of him. Very deep stuff aha :) Basically he is waiting for them to break up and thinks she will give up on them so he's wanting to be like her to see why it's gonna end

Mainstream sells more sadly and there’s nothing wrong with it but I do miss his old stuff a lot and my favorites are definitely from his older music
