I've been watching DCI since Spirit of Atlanta was criticized because they were initially bank-rolled by an Atlanta TV station. What's important here is that creative people are looking for - and finding- realistic ways to further the activity in a mature manner while providing superior educational opportunities.
Also. I don't know where this guy is teaching, but his students have won the Golden Ticket.
How to start a drum corp, get 7 million dollars.
Wow, 7 million dollars!! Thatd be good enough for just 1 season!!!
That is start up cost plus, for one DCI tour season, you would need close to another 4 to 7 million per season after that, and even more in the future. Great staff, fuel, equipment truck & food truck, instruments, uniforms etc etc, are not cheap. But make sure to go to a drum corps show this summer and buy a ticket, and a few t-shirts to help out. Even if I won the lottery, I would make sure the corps could sustain itself financailly into the future without me when I'm long gone. Non Profits do it all the time, but they have a bunch of smart people running it. @@bloxxer_boy

Ludwig also printed a drum corps guide back in the '30s, widely used by veterans' posts.
marched the Gems this '24 season, Austin has such a good head on his shoulders and the whole team is incredible, I see such a great strong future for this corps 🎉

We started a Drum Corps in Germany in 2018
Our biggest Issue ist getting more Members
We are currently:
4 Trumpets
1 Bariton
1 Tuba
2 Snares
3 Bass Drums
4 Colourguard
1 Drum Mayor
That’s a pretty common issue that I noticed when I was there in 2018 working with Starriders. Best of luck to you guys in your journey, I hope that you are able to keep drum corps alive in Europe!

Thank you, CJ, and Austin for such an inspiring video! I’m so happy to see a Drum Corps such as the Gems start and grow the way a Corps should. To see members come in that had no idea what Drum Corps was, and become a part of this amazing art form! It astounds me to know how many people still have no idea what Drum Corps is, so for something like this to happen in a community and gradually come up through the DCI circuit gives me hope that little by little, Drum Corps will be something that more and more people will know about, and maybe become a part of!
What an inspiring story. I hope to start an independent drumline in the next few years so I may be sending in an email or two!

Yo this is awesome. I’ve been a fan of the gems since the minute they crossed my instagram feed. I feel so parallel to Austin, having marched dca and then a year of online as my ageout got dragged by Covid, but I’m across the border in BC, and have been joking for years that I’m gonna start a corps… but I’m not joking, it’s just gonna be substantially harder cause I need to start with the high school scene (it’s Canada there barely is one).
I’m excited to see gems future and once I’m not also broke you can bet you’ll find me on a donor list

This is quite an interesting video. I'm in Colorado and wish indoor winds was a thing, but it isn't. I'm currently marching DCI and I'm half thinking whether it would be possible to start up an indoor winds group in Colorado after I age out (2026) and graduate from college (spring 2027 hopefully). I don't have any actual plans though and it's just an idea of mine. If possible, the earliest I would think of starting would be the 2028 season.
