The movie is about Hawkeye and Cora, almost all the scenes are about them. But Alice and Uncas very subtle and hidden romance, with just a few scenes to show their relationship, simply overshadows Cora and Hawkeye, takes our breath away, breaks our heart and makes them not only the most memorable characters in the film, but a classic legend of all times. Whatever Cora and Hawkeye story in this movie is simply forgetable but Uncas and Alice silent romance imprinted in my mind forever.
While I was blown away by Nathaniel and Cora's fight to be together (the main love story of the film), this unsung tribute towards the beginning bloom of a potential epic love by Uncas and Alice makes me cry. I cried when they both died; and yet the beauty of why they died, makes their story triumphant. They looked death in the eyes with no fear but rather determination in each other; and I felt her death was heroic. Her choice was a spit in Huron's face. Death a better choice then being beside him. And the bravery of Uncas trying to save his love, death didn't matter even. And I feel in the end, their spirits would reunite.
This movie was a great tribute to what true love really is if you were blessed . In this lifetime. To have found it. I never found it. Felt the emptiness all my life.
Both female leads in this movie are equally beautiful while having very different characters. Both actresses realy nailed it,but Jody Mays scene where she jumped to her love off the cliff was truly hurting and heartbreaking. I ,as a man was in tears seeing that.
Jodi mays performance in this film was right down riveting. She carried her character with such innocence that it gave us no chance to prepare for the wammy of an exit she would make at the end. I mean her character jumping off the cliff to meet her love on the other side , not to mention her legendary glance at the camera before she does it really made up for the shy innocent pace she had us entranced in, literally. The whole time we may have though Cora was the one with balls" sort of speak , but would she have jumped for hawk eye?? Her sister beat her to love , while Cora seemingly just seem to have a predominantly sexual chemistry with hawk eye. Alice gets the trophy for finding the love that was spiritual, significant, and lastly eternal.

It's interesting, isn't it, that we are so exposed to the (otherwise very lovable) details of Cora and Hawkeye's romance, and at the same time we don't even get to witness a single verbal conversation between Alice and Uncas -- and yet, when the movie is over, our minds and thoughts wander to Alice and Uncas. There's something magical about how little is said, how little is shown, and yet how much it meant for them.
Apparently there were more scenes of them filmed together including a gentle love scene when he embraces her at the waterfall but it was cut for reasons (many reasons have been said but its hard to know which one is true). But something I read by a First Nations person who pointed out the braid in Alice's hair when she jumps- a braid that was not there at the waterfall. The comment said that it could be a sign of commitment and love that Uncas braided in her hair. If true it would be amazing.
@@jaimicottrill2831Yes, that's true, I've heard somewhere that Eric said they had filmed "puppy love" scenes. Eric apparently didn't really like that they deleted the scenes from the movie. One of the reasons speculated to be the reason why they deleted was that the mother of Alice's actress said that she was too young (she was 17, I think) to be doing those kinds of things, especially with Eric, since he was older. But man, I really wish they didn't delete the scenes, I loved them so much in the movie...

that's just a beautiful composition! Eric is one of my favorite actors, even though he hasn't been in many movies... his eyes, so captivating... to be able to meet him and spend time getting to know him as him and not a movie part. I would give all that I could for that chance. adding on, that yes... ik that's not sensible lol... I am usually a very rational person... but he has stuck with me through the years. I don't know why lol... but he has.
Really great scenes of Alice and Uncas. We all wanted them to have their future together. So very sad. But she made it easy for us to step off that cliff with her, when all promise of love and hope died with Uncas. Can’t forget that last look in her tearing eyes. Thank you.🥀
First of all this is my favorite movie of all time. I love the subtlety of their love story, because it's really all in their eyes, not their actions....as if he wants to be with her, but can't since he needs to carry on the Mohican blood lines...I think their love story is all the more special because it was held back and they died for each other in the end...tragic yet beautiful....I know it was supposed to be different but in the end i like what they did...

Wow. What a bad ass video. I read the book and sure it is way different than the Movie but they are both good in their own way. To speak of Alice: has their ever been a character to go through such a spiritually mind bending 360 roller coaster ride, with in such a small amount of time where in her small, and bigoted view of life, full of perks, comforts, riches and a promise of a long safe life: turned upside down and rolled in the raw, cold earth of seemingly unreal realities: wherein terror abound at every corner and ultimately embrace death with such serenity, such calm, with a tear almost breaking the dam of her eye but no! Not for Magua: ye shall not see thine tears, yea are not worthy of them; they are for thine beloved only!
I beg to differ. Twas a moment towards the end right before Alice gravitated towards her one true love that Magua I feel changeth. Him lowering his weapon is a symbol of the changeth and him extending his arm is and motioning her to take it is a symbol of forgiveness. I feel there is no needeth for him to do so those things but finally, he sees her as someone who is like him, a person torn from losing his wife and family. I think at that moment, he sympathized with her with what was going through her mind and made an honest effort to make peace with her and attempt to save her.
My paternal ancestors are of British, French, Dutch, and First Nations heritage. I can see the love in Alice's eyes for a man like Uncas. He is a true blue warrior who is in love with a fair haired maid. The making of a vast continent like North America is simply the most tragic love story the world has ever known. When we remember what was here before I was, before my father, and his father, and so on it is such a tragedy that we don't appreciate the sophistication and very diverse societies of the Amerindian peoples. I love my country Canada, but what it has become is not something which sits well with me and the ghosts of my people. We will always be here no matter if it is just a whisper on the wind. We will remain as the voices of our people have remained.

I cried my eyes out when Uncas got killed, and when Alice jumped. &right before that, when they where fighting, Alice's face killed me. She looked so scared.
Wait a minute...Uncas braids Alics's hair and they cut that scene out?? WTF?! These are important details! Lol!! Iwas wondering when she had time to do the braid.

I'm unsure why but a lot of things that I would get upset about haven't really affected me but this really has, like I was literally crying haha. It's so sad and tragic, their love was essentially in silence and it could have been something more if Magua hadn't interfered. I've read the book and I saw the movie when I was very young and I this was probably my favourite scene even though I never really fully understood it at the age I was at. I mean this really just adds up to how strong their love was for each other. I think what really started me off was when Alice was at the edge of the cliff and she was just contemplating her decision as to whether she should adjoin Magua and live a miserable life with that occurrence haunting her or completely end her life and be with the one who fought for her, the one she loves. I think a lot of people are convinced their love wouldn't last as Uncas was raised in the wilderness whereas Alice had a very sophisticated and 'proper' upbringing so I can see why people would think that. However, they both died for each other and that wasn't for nothing. Also, Alice surely would have known that Nathaniel, Chingachook and Cora would not have just abandoned her with Magua so I believe that even if she had escaped from them and returned to her sheltered life she would not be completely herself because it was evident that she truly did love Uncas; she never once resisted against him such as the waterfall scene when she let him hold her and again when he clasped his hand over her mouth and held her when the Huron's were advancing in the night. I think that however she would survive, she would always be distressed by his death. The movie is honestly so cleverly produced because Nathaniel and Cora's relationship got so much attention in the movie that I would have thought that something tragic would occur between them and yet it isn't until the final scene that you understand that perhaps Uncas and Alice's love was so much stronger. Sorry this is my favourite movie, I could go on forever!
I have the picture of her on the cliff when she looks at magua , just pure defiance I saw it as a kid too an iv never got over it, it's why I think I have such a high expectation of love, not cos I want a lady to jump from a cliff or anything , it was the holding and stroking her hair for me to let her know she was safe😔 only once I think iv felt something similar, a girl threw herself at me for a hug knowing I would catch her and not let her fall, its prob a weird moment for me to have in my brain i dunno😔
Totally agree! Uncas and Alice ar my all time fav couple, and they had such spontaneous chemistry, whereas I'm sorry but Nathaniel and Cora had none. It's like the director planned their love story, then realized Uncas and Alice were much better matched, and instead of focusing on them decided to cut their scenes to favour Nathaniel and Cora, who still got little love from the audience.

Thanks so much KiraGarza for posting this! I saw TLOTM when it came out, and it blew me and everyone I knew, and everyone else, away! That scene where Alice chooses ultimate sides IMO was the most powerful of any movie ever, and the directing and screen play were incomparable... and to add even more to this clip I have to say that Natalie Merchant [from 10,000 Maniacs] did a superb job on the song, as she did in her solo career, more so than with her former band IMO; I just love her!
@bookiecookie444 Thank you :) The script did have a larger relationship between Alice and Uncas but it was cut because they wanted the focus on the main couple, I don't think it had much to do with Jodhi & Eric's chemistry on set. They filmed many Alice & Uncas scenes but they were cut for time, including a kiss under the waterfall. The love scene was never filmed, Jodhi's mother thought she was too young for the scene.
This is great! You did a much better job of capturing the love relationship between Uncas & Alice than the directors. Although I read that when they saw the amount of chemistry between the actors on filming, the directors were worried that it was taking away from the star couple (Stowe and Lewis) and they decided to turn it down with Uncas and Alice. They even cut out their big love scene, which I'm still irked they never put on the dvd special edition. Anyway, you did great!
Have just come across this and did not realise there were 2 romantic elements in this story i.e. Hawkeye and Cora, Uncas and Alice. The difference between them is captivating and there are all sort of clues which build through the film showing off both male and female elements. Uncas is good with children early in the frontier cabin scene and jokes centre around him on when he will find his woman. Little reference is made to Hawkeye finding a woman. As the plot builds around the backdrop of the history and violence of this wild frontier, Cora emerges to understand the ways of the new frontier and questions the values i.e. not burying the bodies and did those people mean anything to Hawkeye, but she begins to learn more and becomes fascinated with this new 'rugged frontier' world in contrast to the civility of Boston and London. We see her love for Hawkeye blossom with this new understanding and he sees in her a different person that he has so far not encountered. While this main romantic theme plays out amidst the carnage and chaos going on, a subtle other romantic story is going on. Alice while initially excited with this new 'adventure' quickly realises she is out of her depth and does not understand and is totally confused and frightened. Uncas senses her frailty and vulnerability yet also sees her beauty. Alice does not understand her feelings amidst the backdrop of the horror and carnage with battles going on and you sense she wants to end it all at the waterfall scene. Uncas saves her and provides reassurance and comfort. She does not know whether to give in or express her feelings in the same way as Cora for Hawkeye towards Uncas. From this this element of uncertainty which is not played out, we are left guessing at their relationship but captivated and mesmerised by their attraction towards one another. The contrast is one of Cora going for Hawkeye (Nathaniel) and Uncas for Alice which is moving. He is a true quiet courageous hero character and with a number of scenes to protect the frightened Alice who cannot seem to make sense of what is going on. A Romeo and Juilet' esque occurs which makes it ever more compelling for viewing. While Cora and Hawkeye's love is resolved and lives Uncas and Alice's love is resolved only via tragedy. We are therefore left wondering what would have happened. Ultimately the audience in a sense knows that this couple is well suited and would be good for one another, we are left to wonder how this would play out and this again highlights the strength of the film. We see Alice's happiness at the beginning (so we know she is capable of this), Uncas is strong, courageous caring and compassionate. Uncas has a look and feel of a Knight in shining armour with Alice as the Damsel in distress yet few words of expression of feeling to each other are shown for one another. The 'love story' is told via their actions and expressions for one another. That's my take on it which I found moving It is well acted by both of them Eric Schwieg and Jodhi May. It's a moving and innocent love story, perhaps there is an element of this story to be credited towards Ms. Mays' mother by preserving the innocence of their relationship. It is one of my favourite movies for lots of reasons:- 1. Music 2. History 3. Historical authenticity (costumes, make-up etc) 4. Characters (Heroes, Heroines and Villains) 5. Romance and romantic themes: Nathaniel/ Cora, Uncas/Alice 6. Action and battle sequences: unlike previous Western or Indian type films 7. Landscape: stunning backdrop of cliffs, waterfalls, forests 8. Storyline: keeps you watching and captivated 9. Justice: end scene for Magua 10.Evolving characters within story: change of characters themselves and their opinions and viewpoints most prominently with Cora Needless to say with this rambling this story ticks a lot of boxes on what elements a good film should be. Watched this film years ago. but still think it is well done in a pre CGI era!!

And also, I would like to mention that in No.5, Duncan love is so strong that he even sacrificed his own life for the love of Cora, so that she could spend her life with the one she loves the most, which is Hawkeye (Nathaniel).. That's the greatest and deepest way to express the true feeling for real love I bet...
jodhi may is so beautiful. I just saw her in the ice cream girls and the actress who plays her younger self holli dempsey has the same haunting presence on the camera as miss alice munro.
I live about 2 hrs from those beautiful falls and every time I see them I am in awe that these actors and stunt doubles was at the top of them staging fight scenes their courage takes my breath away..I to felt like Alice and Uncas chemistry was so much stronger than Hawkeye's and Cora's it is too bad that Jodhi's mother felt she was too young to play a love scene which is kind of ironic since she didn't see anything wrong with her committing a fake suicide off a 300 foot waterfall but hey that is just my opinion which means nothing in the big scheme of things..
Judy Holiday According to a recent interview with Eric, who played Uncas, a love scene with him and Jodhi was exactly filmed but edited from the movie because they wanted Hawkeye and Cora to be the main lover's in the film. It would be nice if and when they finally make an anniversary DVD of the movie they re-add the missing love scene. It must be around somewhere in a safe in Hollywood collecting dust. It would remake the movie and probably make more money for the producer's on the film not to mention sell several thousand copies
***** This is an old story and interview, not recent. Eric has said this in interviews back in the 90's. It's unlikely the filmed scenes (a kiss, nothing more, it was 'puppy love') will ever be seen, or the scene where Uncas braids Alice's hair. These scenes have most likely been lost, they have not been included on the two different director's cute releases of recent years or the blu-ray. So it most likely will never be seen because either the director doesn't like the extra story or they are lost. It's a pipe dream that many fans let go of a long time ago, sad but true :/ Although Alice & Uncas has a fan following most people that watch the movie don't notice them or like the main love story. We are a very small group of fans (A&U) that is vocal about our love.
I must be in the minority because I did not feel nor see the chemistry between Haweye and Cora but for some reason I automatically was drawn to Alice and Uncas. I caught a glimpse of what could have been so much more if the director wasn't afraid it would out shadow the main couple's story..
+Judy Holiday - Michael Mann wanted to but Johdi May's mother was on set the whole time and wouldn't let her participate in any love scenes. She finally relented only for that one scene in the waterfall. Personally, I think that's the reason why they now get 20-something actresses to portray teenagers so that they won't need parental permission for any questionable scenes.

Actions have consequences Magua isn't the one to blame, his hate for the wrong he received by their own father… everything could have been prevented. Magua tried not to kill Uncas, but Uncas could never stop trying to save his Alice.
When she chose her end, which was really a beginning for her what stayed with me was Magua lowered his knife and made a motion to her to come to him he would not hurt her and she still rejected him and chose death rather than a life of servitude to someone with such an evil heart.

I feel there is no needeth for him to do so those things but finally, he sees her as someone who is like him, a person torn from losing his wife and family. I think at that moment, he sympathized with her with what was going through her mind and made an honest effort to make peace with her and attempt to save her.

He is a true blue warrior who is in love with a fair haired maid. The making of a vast continent like North America is simply the most tragic love story the world has ever known. When we remember what was here before I was, before my father, and his father, and so on it is such a tragedy that we don't appreciate the sophistication and very diverse societies of the Amerindian peoples. I love my country Canada, but what it has become is not something which sits well with me and the ghosts of my people. We will always be here no matter if it is just a whisper on the wind. We will remain as the voices of our people have remained.

I cried my eyes out when Uncas got killed, and when Alice jumped. &right before that, when they where fighting, Alice's face killed me. She looked so scared.

What a beautiful love story, but so sad. What a great movie!!!
I'm unsure why but a lot of things that I would get upset about haven't really affected me but this really has, like I was literally crying haha. It's so sad and tragic, their love was essentially in silence and it could have been something more if Magua hadn't interfered. I've read the book and I saw the movie when I was very young and I this was probably my favourite scene even though I never really fully understood it at the age I was at. I mean this really just adds up to how strong their love was for each other.
I think what really started me off was when Alice was at the edge of the cliff and she was just contemplating her decision as to whether she should adjoin Magua and live a miserable life with that occurrence haunting her or completely end her life and be with the one who fought for her, the one she loves.
I think a lot of people are convinced their love wouldn't last as Uncas was raised in the wilderness whereas Alice had a very sophisticated and 'proper' upbringing so I can see why people would think that. However, they both died for each other and that wasn't for nothing. Also, Alice surely would have known that Nathaniel, Chingachook and Cora would not have just abandoned her with Magua so I believe that even if she had escaped from them and returned to her sheltered life she would not be completely herself because it was evident that she truly did love Uncas; she never once resisted against him such as the waterfall scene when she let him hold her and again when he clasped his hand over her mouth and held her when the Huron's were advancing in the night. I think that however she would survive, she would always be distressed by his death.
The movie is honestly so cleverly produced because Nathaniel and Cora's relationship got so much attention in the movie that I would have thought that something tragic would occur between them and yet it isn't until the final scene that you understand that perhaps Uncas and Alice's love was so much stronger.
Sorry this is my favourite movie, I could go on forever!
I have the picture of her on the cliff when she looks at magua , just pure defiance I saw it as a kid too an iv never got over it, it's why I think I have such a high expectation of love, not cos I want a lady to jump from a cliff or anything , it was the holding and stroking her hair for me to let her know she was safe😔 only once I think iv felt something similar, a girl threw herself at me for a hug knowing I would catch her and not let her fall, its prob a weird moment for me to have in my brain i dunno😔

Totally agree! Uncas and Alice ar my all time fav couple, and they had such spontaneous chemistry, whereas I'm sorry but Nathaniel and Cora had none. It's like the director planned their love story, then realized Uncas and Alice were much better matched, and instead of focusing on them decided to cut their scenes to favour Nathaniel and Cora, who still got little love from the audience.
This is the best Alice/Uncas video I've seen. You did such a great job capturing the intensity of their silent love affair. Great job!

Thanks so much KiraGarza for posting this! I saw TLOTM when it came out, and it blew me and everyone I knew, and everyone else, away! That scene where Alice chooses ultimate sides IMO was the most powerful of any movie ever, and the directing and screen play were incomparable... and to add even more to this clip I have to say that Natalie Merchant [from 10,000 Maniacs] did a superb job on the song, as she did in her solo career, more so than with her former band IMO; I just love her!
@bookiecookie444 Thank you :) The script did have a larger relationship between Alice and Uncas but it was cut because they wanted the focus on the main couple, I don't think it had much to do with Jodhi & Eric's chemistry on set. They filmed many Alice & Uncas scenes but they were cut for time, including a kiss under the waterfall. The love scene was never filmed, Jodhi's mother thought she was too young for the scene.

This is great! You did a much better job of capturing the love relationship between Uncas & Alice than the directors. Although I read that when they saw the amount of chemistry between the actors on filming, the directors were worried that it was taking away from the star couple (Stowe and Lewis) and they decided to turn it down with Uncas and Alice. They even cut out their big love scene, which I'm still irked they never put on the dvd special edition. Anyway, you did great!
I wonder how much Jodi Mays had to work on that look, it's beyond words.
Have just come across this and did not realise there were 2 romantic elements in this story i.e. Hawkeye and Cora, Uncas and Alice. The difference between them is captivating and there are all sort of clues which build through the film showing off both male and female elements.
Uncas is good with children early in the frontier cabin scene and jokes centre around him on when he will find his woman. Little reference is made to Hawkeye finding a woman. As the plot builds around the backdrop of the history and violence of this wild frontier, Cora emerges to understand the ways of the new frontier and questions the values i.e. not burying the
bodies and did those people mean anything to Hawkeye, but she begins to learn more and becomes fascinated with this new 'rugged frontier' world in contrast to the civility of Boston and London. We see her love for Hawkeye blossom with this new understanding and he sees in her a different person that he has so far not encountered. While this main romantic theme plays out amidst the carnage and chaos going on, a subtle other romantic story is going on.
Alice while initially excited with this new 'adventure' quickly realises she is out of her depth and does not understand and is totally confused and frightened. Uncas senses her frailty and vulnerability yet also sees her beauty. Alice does not understand her feelings amidst the backdrop of the horror and carnage with battles going on and you sense she wants to end it all at the waterfall scene. Uncas saves her and provides reassurance and comfort. She does not know whether to give in or express her feelings in the same way as Cora for Hawkeye towards Uncas. From this this element of uncertainty which is not played out, we are left guessing at their relationship but captivated and mesmerised by their attraction towards one another.
The contrast is one of Cora going for Hawkeye (Nathaniel) and Uncas for Alice which is moving. He is a true quiet courageous hero character and with a number of scenes to protect the frightened Alice who cannot seem to make sense of what is going on. A Romeo and Juilet' esque occurs which makes it ever more compelling for viewing. While Cora and Hawkeye's love is resolved and lives Uncas and Alice's love is resolved only via tragedy. We are therefore left wondering what would have happened. Ultimately the audience in a sense knows that this couple is well suited and would be good for one another, we are left to wonder how this would play out and this again highlights the strength of the film.
We see Alice's happiness at the beginning (so we know she is capable of this), Uncas is strong, courageous caring and compassionate. Uncas has a look and feel of a Knight in shining armour with Alice as the Damsel in distress yet few words of expression of feeling to each other are shown for one another. The 'love story' is told via their actions and expressions
for one another.
That's my take on it which I found moving It is well acted by both of them Eric Schwieg and Jodhi May. It's a moving and innocent love story, perhaps there is an element of this story to be credited towards Ms. Mays' mother by preserving the innocence of their relationship.
It is one of my favourite movies for lots of reasons:-
1. Music
2. History
3. Historical authenticity (costumes, make-up etc)
4. Characters (Heroes, Heroines and Villains)
5. Romance and romantic themes: Nathaniel/ Cora, Uncas/Alice
6. Action and battle sequences: unlike previous Western or Indian type films
7. Landscape: stunning backdrop of cliffs, waterfalls, forests
8. Storyline: keeps you watching and captivated
9. Justice: end scene for Magua
10.Evolving characters within story: change of characters themselves and their opinions and viewpoints most prominently with Cora
Needless to say with this rambling this story ticks a lot of boxes on what elements a good film should be.
Watched this film years ago. but still think it is well done in a pre CGI era!!
Great job Bro! And also, I would like to mention that in No.5, Duncan love is so strong that he even sacrificed his own life for the love of Cora, so that she could spend her life with the one she loves the most, which is Hawkeye (Nathaniel)..
That's the greatest and deepest way to express the true feeling for real love I bet...
jodhi may is so beautiful. I just saw her in the ice cream girls and the actress who plays her younger self holli dempsey has the same haunting presence on the camera as miss alice munro.
I live about 2 hrs from those beautiful falls and every time I see them I am in awe that these actors and stunt doubles was at the top of them staging fight scenes their courage takes my breath away..I to felt like Alice and Uncas chemistry was so much stronger than Hawkeye's and Cora's it is too bad that Jodhi's mother felt she was too young to play a love scene which is kind of ironic since she didn't see anything wrong with her committing a fake suicide off a 300 foot waterfall but hey that is just my opinion which means nothing in the big scheme of things..
Judy Holiday According to a recent interview with Eric, who played Uncas, a love scene with him and Jodhi was exactly filmed but edited from the movie because they wanted Hawkeye and Cora to be the main lover's in the film. It would be nice if and when they finally make an anniversary DVD of the movie they re-add the missing love scene. It must be around somewhere in a safe in Hollywood collecting dust. It would remake the movie and probably make more money for the producer's on the film not to mention sell several thousand copies
***** This is an old story and interview, not recent. Eric has said this in interviews back in the 90's. It's unlikely the filmed scenes (a kiss, nothing more, it was 'puppy love') will ever be seen, or the scene where Uncas braids Alice's hair. These scenes have most likely been lost, they have not been included on the two different director's cute releases of recent years or the blu-ray. So it most likely will never be seen because either the director doesn't like the extra story or they are lost. It's a pipe dream that many fans let go of a long time ago, sad but true :/ Although Alice & Uncas has a fan following most people that watch the movie don't notice them or like the main love story. We are a very small group of fans (A&U) that is vocal about our love.
I must be in the minority because I did not feel nor see the chemistry between Haweye and Cora but for some reason I automatically was drawn to Alice and Uncas. I caught a glimpse of what could have been so much more if the director wasn't afraid it would out shadow the main couple's story..
Alice and Uncas all the way. A much more intriguing love story. Hawkeye and Cora were nothing in comparison.
+Judy Holiday - Michael Mann wanted to but Johdi May's mother was on set the whole time and wouldn't let her participate in any love scenes. She finally relented only for that one scene in the waterfall. Personally, I think that's the reason why they now get 20-something actresses to portray teenagers so that they won't need parental permission for any questionable scenes.

Actions have consequences
Magua isn't the one to blame, his hate for the wrong he received by their own father… everything could have been prevented.
Magua tried not to kill Uncas, but Uncas could never stop trying to save his Alice.
When she chose her end, which was really a beginning for her what stayed with me was Magua lowered his knife and made a motion to her to come to him he would not hurt her and she still rejected him and chose death rather than a life of servitude to someone with such an evil heart.
