Do you think this place was as bad as Brits said?? Brilliant support lately, thank you! Would appreciate you checking to see if you’re subscribed, you’d be surprised how many people watch without realising they’re not subbed haha
1st comment gigne as I am aslo
It looks nice actually. Tbh I've not been on holiday for so long Blackpool looks possible!
I thought you’d have way more subs, get this guy over 100k subs!
Another great video.
For comparison to sun holidays why not do a video on a skiing trip
Are you going to do an Episode when you go to a sex club ?
Is it hated by the British public because it doesn't do €2 pints of carling, and fried breakfasts until 3pm every day?
Stop criticising our culture
You'd have to pay me 2 euros to drink Carling.
You're right , I'd be upset with a shit lager like nats piss Carling
i’d hate it then 😂
Don’t forget Only Fools And Horses playing on repeat in every bar………
I went to the ‘relatively unknown’ and certainly not commercialised island of Mykonos in 1983 - it was so cheap to eat out and drink everywhere that I came home with a purse full of drachma! The ‘airport’ had only just opened for international flights….on arrival on the island, we had to walk from the plane (Dan Air as it was!) to the Arrivals lounge, and wait in a queue as the stern looking Greek Airport head honcho inspected EVERY page of peoples’ passports before stamping it (he was checking to make sure there were no Turkey stamps in it!) before letting you go through to the Exits!
The first day, after spending the night in a hot little room. I went to inspect Mykonos Town, I got horribly lost in those little paved streets and😮 maze of alleyways - they all weave in and out and all look the same! trying to find my way to the sea or a Taverna to get a drink was hard - I even had a “map”! But by day four, I knew those streets like the back of my hand!
All around the island I found the best tavernas the best bars, the best ice cream shops and the best place to get a toasted tuna sandwich and a cup of proper tea after a day sunbathing on the nudist beach Super Paradise!
There were no rip off merchants then - just “locals” eager to welcome the traveller and holidaymaker and ensure they had a good time - and they seem to love British people and could not do enough to help! The beach sun beds and brollies were cheap to hire and I went all over the island on their buses! The world, his wife and some hairy goats were on the buses too! And if you went to the same Taverna a couple of times, you were treated as a friend and the free “shots” were plenty! I loved Mykonos - it’s just a shame that greedy capitalists are cashing in on the resort and ripping off the tourist and the locals - they won’t see any of those €€ $$ or ££ being made.
As for the pelican - unless he was replaced by another pelican brother/s later on - Petros the pelican was killed by a car in 1985. I never saw Petros when I holidayed there in Mykonos but I was attacked by a pelican on the island of Zakynthos a few years later!
Out of interest what would they have done if they found out someone had been to Turkey 🤔
@@x-starlight-x it all relates to (the still ‘on going’) war when Turkey illegally invaded the island of Cyprus in 1974 and declared Northern Cyprus as a Turkish place. The Greeks and Cypriots are “allied” through years of history and Mainland Greece and the islands, actively recognise the illegal invasion and occupation and recognise Turkey as an enemy.
It was the “olden days” when Passports were routinely stamped with the Country’s name, at the Passport Control Arrivals Desk when travelling abroad - not sure if it’s still done? If a person who is travelling to either Cyprus or Greece, has a passport stamp declaring a recent arrival in Turkey, entry to either Country would either be very difficult (taken away for “interviews about visits to Turkey etc and if they had arranged to meet a Turkish person there) or their entry could actually be denied and just be sent home!
holiday representatives will advise that if the tourist decides to visit a Turkish enclave whilst holidaying in Greece or Cyprus (mini breaks or day trips etc), if they want a Passport stamp as a proof of a holiday destination, to ask for the stamp to be on a piece of paper and to not keep it WITH the Passport when travelling back to those two countries!
Because of the illegal invasion, occupation and their human rights issues, Turkey is not in the EU
Where I fell in love with Greece in the early 80s too I agree with everything said. Got delivered from the (one room) airport with our cases on the back of a flat bed three wheeler truck 😂
Oh and did see 'Petros'...there was a Petros Mk 2 later in the decade (went 3 times) I hated it so much 😂
Rhodes greek island does daily boat trips to marmaris now and vice versa.my sister visited rhodes on boat trip when in marmaris
One lone traveller to another - in the evening pick an outside table and buy a beer and people watch, being out you may get to meet and talk to other travellers. It's sometimes hard to work up the enthusism to do it, but it can be rewarding. I enjoyed your video. Happy travels!
Rolling about in "rubble" 🤣🤣
I have a cat that loves rolling about in rubble. She also refused to go outside in the rain to poo and did it in the cellar. I put a clean dirt tray down there and she likes to sleep in it.
Fun fact: The houses are white because of a cholera outbreak and everybody HAD to paint their houses white as it was a disinfectant. They don’t have to anymore but they still do. 😅❤
I thought it was to reflect heat from the Sun😎
Gaz UK
Both are somewhat true
Lime is disinfectant .
Buildings painted with white lime absorb less heat.
Can't believe Ed didn't use the term "Greek Myth" at the end when he was talking about the missing pelican! Hilarious as usual though. 👍
I was in Mykonos last year and the only thing I didn't like about it was it was absolutely crowded due to the number of cruise ships that were in port at the one time. But it's a beautiful island, the people were friendly and yes, it is expensive, but then so are so many other tourist destinations. I'm stunned it came out so bad in the poll. Great channel btw, just discovered you and I've enjoyed the vids!
I was in Crete last month and had the time of my life. I found prices similar to the prices in UK. I can appreciate that islanders need to ship goods in from the mainland and this is costly. The Greeks are finding the prices challenging too. We hired a car and for my son and I, this was cost effective. We shopped in the areas where local people shop and found a few bargains.
I am not even British. USA btw. This is the most ridiculous thing that I ever heard. Let me guess because of accomodations. Wanting nightclubs to close at 6am. And breakfast serve all day at anytime. Not even all-inclusive resorts do that. It isn't about the money. It's about tourists not getting their way. 😂
They make their money through tourism which is majority European I wouldn't concern yourself Tommy
You had Baklava for dessert, but that's a loaded statement that it's 'Greek'. Turkish would claim it as theirs, but also generally very popular in the balkan region as a whole. Definitely is part of Greek cuisine though.
If you go back to Greece you should try Spanakopita, I would guess your airport has a cafe, maybe grigoris, they would likely have it.
Similar situation culturally, but a great savoury breakfast or lunch. It's called borek in other places.
That dessert is Baklava, you can buy it in most of the UK's supermarkets.
Pastries from 'Grigs'...who'd a thunk it!
It's possible the shorts were stonewashed, a process to make them look worn-in. This treatment is often used for giving an aged look to jeans, with some small stones often found in the pockets. But then again, it's also possible your shorts could have been pre-worn!
definitely stone washed, lol, though I didn't know they did that to swimming trunks; though going to a Greek island without thinking you might like to swim - that's on you, Ed!
This video was outstanding, one of your best. It really is that simple.
Also, big up the San Marino top!
Thank you Alan, hope you're well!
Baklava was the desert, find it everywhere in the middle East/Turkey
Mykonos is definitely not a place to chill 😛its a huge party island especially in the summer
Ed been binge watching your videos as a new sub. Love your style. Keep it up mate. Amazing content
Classic Ed, this.
Was nice to meet you after the game on Sunday chap.
Honestly, it looked lovely and the video, especially the more chilled and atmospheric vibe, is top notch.
I have literally just got off an Easyjet flight from Mykonos to Gatwick....and we saw most of the places you seem to have been to. And we had the same weather!! It isn't horrible, it just doesn't cater for Brit-style tourists. It is expensive yes. But it is fantastic without Irish pubs....
Hats wrong with Irish pubs?
Thanks for another entertaining video Ed keep them coming mate 🎉🎉
These are getting so good these days 🙌🏼
Loved this video! You did well to visit when no cruise ships were there, it’s very different when there’s 10k+ cruise guests in the streets. Definitely never the worst place though I love Mykonos! 😂😂
Great vid. Looked good to me. Everyone hates high prices but they have to make money somehow and when you're on holiday the opjective is to have fun lol.
I think a lot of people complain when they go overseas because a lot of the areas are for relaxing, swimming, being in the sun etc : a lot of people who have children expect everywhere to have activities for families, some do but it's nice to have some that are more chill.
Same when you go camping: do you want to go to a place where everything there is for kids like entertainment, activities, watersports, shows etc or would you settle for a calm site with a simple childrens park with swings, slide etc and a fishing pond. When we were kids there was activities you could do that were free like rounders, boardgames , cricket and when kids have gone to bed the adults could play adult board games or chat with a few drinks.
End of the day, it all comes down to what you want in the holiday, budget, age of the kids, if the kids are only interested in gadgets and expensive activities or will they happily play with the old school camping games.
Anyway. Good vid, can't wait for the next one , now it's time i make a bloody brew lol xx
Pelican't..and rubble rollin' cats!!!😂Brilliant Ed, great video, you never fail to make me chuckle 🤭 hugs from Glasgow.
I first went to Mykonos 45 years ago and loved it. I've been a few times but not in recent years so maybe it's changed a lot.
There is a reason for the funny shaped bottle openers lol. Its always been where the batters from the other team go.
Absolutely quality video 🤣🤣 Keep them coming.
Loving these travel vlogs! You mentioned about not having much chance to unwind.... how about a week's all inclusive vlog!? I think that would make quality viewing!
Enjoyable video, thanks! Ive been ill this week and enjoyed watching your videos for a cheer up. I was half expecting those rip-off trunks to be those joke ones that disintegrate in contact with water! 😂😂
I think the most unfriendly place to holiday in Europe is the Dordogne France, i think i know as im Irish living here, i would not be able to live anywhere else but. wow find out four yourself Ed it would make for one hell of a video.
Great channel Ed.....greetings and salutations from the Hunkum Spunkum.
How have I ended up watching a video about travel from someone who doesn’t know what baklava is 😂😂
Killing it ED, Keep em coming. 👍
Thank you!
This was the last place I went abroad to 11 years ago and I absolutely loved it. I asked in a shop if they had anything for a hangover and the woman gave me some pills out of her handbag... cured me in no time!
As for the "big bird" he was there when I was - not sure how long they live for.
Some people have suggested watching Shirley Valentine and I agree, there's a split second scene where they arrive into the harbour and you can see a comparison of how much the place has grown since that was filmed.
As someone who’s been to Mykonos a few times, it’s definitely all about the beach clubs etc and only good between May-September
Another great video thanks Ed.
I think it looked lovely there, even though a tad pricey!
Pity you didn't see the infamous 'Bird'
Keep the videos coming
We love ya
LETSSSS GOOOO, Better than Butlins lol, Honestly enjoy your content and your humour. Would love some best and worsts and some more travel and hotel stuff tbh i like all of it lol keep up the great content
Just found you channel. Love it xxx
Thanks!GREAT WORK ED.
Thank you so much! 😊
"A Greek Mevagissey". Brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have you been to Mevagissey? It's beautiful unlike Mykonos which is dirty and tacky looking 😂😂😂
@@jennyoshea1958 summer holidays for 30+ years spent down the road in Pentewan. The annual trip to Cornwall wasn't complete without a visit to Meva.
@@jamieandtherandomstuff 👌🏴🙌🌷🪻🌷
I think this is the classic case of brits valuing value (aka cost in most people’s mind) over everything else. Could be the prettiest. Could be the most entertaining or relaxing. But if it’s seen as “not good value” it goes to the bottom of the list! I get it, and partly agree… but experience, culture, people, food should surely count for something over just “the price”!?
I first went to Mykonos in 1994 and there was always, even then, a Mykonos ‘premium’ which made it the priciest island but it was well worth it and we returned year after year. My most recent visit was 2019 and I decided it was my last. Rapacious profiteering had changed the atmosphere totally and multiple cruise ships in port at any one time meant that the main town, which used to be gorgeously serene during the day when people were at the beaches, was totally mobbed. I go to Naxos now (visible on the horizon from Mykonos) which is beautiful (greener and more fertile than Mykonos) and the beaches are superb (especially Agios Prokopios). It’s also a fraction of the cost with no ‘sunbed mafia’ carpeting every square inch of beach with beds and parasols at €70 a pop. I still have wonderful memories of days spent at Super Paradise Beach but unfortunately for me these days it’s a case of ‘Paradise Lost’
That windmill looks like the 5th beatle
Another brilliant vlog mate, Calpol😂😂😂
I've been to Mykonos twice only on day trips while on a Cruise, I don't think I would go for any more than 5 days.
"Imagen that being your life, you're just rolling about in rubble" 😂 love it
Got back from Mykonos yesterday, I'm convinced that Petros doesn't exist. Was in the old town all week and didn't see the wonky git once.
I saw the pelican there last week.
I only spent one night in Mykonos (it was the cheapest flight to Greece, that got me close to Athens, took the boat the next day to Pireaus, to see Rammstein at the Olympic stadium).
I stepped out of a shop where I'd bought a drink and snack, never having heard about the pelican... And got one hell of a shock as it walked towards and then past me, almost brushing by, followed by an entourage of tourists... So i joined in, taking a few photos!
New subbie. Haha you’re hilarious but also good informative content. The hotel looked lovely.
Thank you! 😊
Been to Benalmadena it was a lovely place, who does these lists!
My Sister went to Mykonos in the 80's and loved it!
you need to get yourself to Bergen in Norway, i think youll love it
where the rain never end Bergen
He thought those Greek meals were expensive. Small change compared to a Norwegian meal.
Bergen looks interesting but I opted to go for a different vibe and went to Tromsø and loved it. Didn't find Norway *as* expensive as people made out, though not cheap by any means
that windmill has the same hairstyle as my uncle ron
i thought it's an antenna or something.
The film 'Shirley Valentine' was filmed there I'm almost sure ed! It's worth a watch funny and profound! Great video again!
You are right, Shirley Valentine was filmed on the Island, it is one of my favourite films and wanted to go to Mykonos to the film locations, especially when they get of the Coach at the Hotel. Obviously it will be different now but to get the essence. I have not yet as for the Costs you can put the money to a more realistic price level at other islands.
Oh yes! Would love to go for chips and egg, nice for a change!! One of my fave films also!!
Love your channel mate, you and a few others inspired me to create mine!
Keep going mate.
you should visit Nea Makri, Greece, went there last year... the locals are lovely but a very rural town :)
Loved this video bud, we're also from Leeds. If you ever fancy collaborating on a video we can both throw dry humour and cracking one liners at each other 🤣🔥
Keep it up lad 👊
When you reached into your pocket in the trunks I thought it was €30 in cash, might have then got a decent price on them
I'm paying restaurant prices like that right here where I live in the US, and this is not a resort town. But it is a college town
Edifying as always. The Bratislava looked yummy.
I was in Mykonos in the mid 70’s .Cheap as chips and unheard of .
New subscriber mate , your hilarious 😂
Loved the dinghy diver joke 😂😂😂😂was hilarious
I'm currently in rodos, and yeah, I know that feeling so expensive to be here, but very pretty
Another video, another winner. Keep it up Ed.
Thank you!
Simply brilliant
I think the shorts you were wearing when you bought the trunks would have served perfectly well as trunks and you could have saved your money.
That windmill thing has Bruce Forsythe's head rug.
I went around 10 years ago. I thought it was beautiful at the time. We had a very nice hotel and beautiful weather.
Great summary. I was actually expecting more Love Island than Blind Date.
And OMG, I've been to 7 out of 10 of the most hated coastal towns in the past couple of years:
Fuengirola - everything built in the 70s bit like Torremolinos which is just around the corner. Beach is a bit meh. Heaps of expats, who can't afford Torremolinos.
Portimão - away from Praia da Rochas which is like an 80s version of Whitely Bay, a pretty unremarkable town (especially the train and coach stations which are only suitable for dumping dead bodies). We lived Lagos for a while which although touristy has a lot more character.
Napoli - rubbish piled up everywhere, massive pot holes in the roads and greasy back alleys. Food is actually really good. Pompeii, Heracleum, Positano, Amalfi, Capri, Sorrento and Vesuvius right on your door step.
Benalmadena - more a southern suburb of Torremolinos, huge tacky 80s marina complex, tons of feral chickens in the main park (seriously loud in the morning). Stayed in a really horrible Apart-hotel, the interior of which was like a shopping centre from the 80s. Lots of leather skinned Brits having their first pint of CBL on the promenade at 10:30am (because they can!).
Catania - like most of southern Sicily, hasn't had a lot of money spent on it in quite a number of decades (due to corruption and extortion). Main road out of town to the south was overgrown with trees and bushes like the final scene from Planet of the Apes. And they seem to love stopping to dump rubbish at laybys on the motorway. Day trip to climb mount Etna was awesome and highly recommended. Check out Syracuse and Noto to the south.
Albufeira - Lots of lads footy trips sitting around in large bars watching Premier League on 80" TVs and drinking 2 Euro CBL in the middle of the day. Had a feeling something could kick off if you bumped into the wrong person. Praia dos Pescadores is one of the nicest on the Algarve. But the sea is freezing all year round.
Carvoeiro - if anything too quiet. Just a little ex-fishing village around the corner from Portimão. Bit surprised to see this on the list. For some this would be the perfect Algarve destination.
Benidorm - Very surprised to see this one on the list. Two great beaches intersected by the old town on the peninsula which has heaps of pubs and bars also great for gay travellers. Couple of blocks away from the beach tons of bars and clubs where most would have a great time and get into a bit of trouble. Also plenty of rugged beaches and small towns to the north and the south.
36 euros for a pair of swimming shorts! I could see the despondent look on your face like what have I just done🤣🤣 banging vid Ed👍👍
55 !😮
@@GA-fz2wt timestamp 8:54 36 Euro's
Baclava, filo pastry, chopped pistachios and honey.....mmmmmmm
Another class video ed, how’s the shorts with the stones in them lol 😂
Also saw you in Costa Del Norfolk watching the most boring football @ Carrow Road.
Hope you enjoyed the Match and the Beautiful Norfolk Weather.
12:18 be careful on the ouzu it's lethal 😅 gets you drunk drinking it then gets you drunk again in the morning trying to drink water to cure the Hangover 😂 lovely stuff though 👌🏻
What an unexpectedly wholesome video
Spent many holidays in the 70s in Mykonos loved it I live in Morocco now a bit different!!!!!Also it's A LOT cheaper!!!
Ed seeing a Digestif for the first time is amazing lol 😂
Hi, nice video, have to say your hotel looked fantastic for the price. Like you said, no way it’s a one/two star!
Laughed my arse off at your “new” trunks. Somebody returned them after having a dip!😂😂
Great vid!👍👏👏👏❤️
You think Mykonos is expensive? Dublin is jaw dropping. €10 for an ice cream, that meal you got in the restaurant would have been twice the price in Dublin that you paid €31. 3 star hotel would be €180 per night. (€80 per night in Mykonos is great value)
Oh it’s rough there, better staying on mainland Greece 🇬🇷 great content as ever Ed, hilarious 🤣
That windmill looked like Bruce Forsythe.
I went last year for a 10 days with the mrs. Found everyone exceptionally friendly, food was class and the beaches were lovely. Shocked people dont rate it at all!
Yeah absolutely, probably the friendliest service I've ever had at a hotel before
So much white paint that they covered you in it too 🤣 Great video Ed 👍
san marino shirt has become a staple of the ed chapman videos.
There are London shops selling ice cream and poor quality 2nd hand soiled swimming shorts for way more than that
Ed referring going to Mykonos and filming it as a "job" is the most millennial thing I'll hear all day. "Not that hard" no not hard at all 😂
Do a night in Grimsby and Cleethorpes mate 👍🏻
Loved the video. Has made me want to go ❤
After a crap day at work this was just what I needed to cheer me up 😀 It didn't look that bad to me, not my cup of tea but I can't believe that that is the worst in Europe. Thanks Ed 😀
Missed opportunity there with the flight board! It´s all Greek to me!
Living in London, those prices are bargains. Couldn’t get a meal out for that price in the south xx
Double.... Triple "it was a joke, dont cancel me"
Best travel RUclipsr there is😂😂
You have been to 2 out of 10 places voted worst (Mykonos and Benidorm) will you complete the list. Love the videos 👍🏻
There's a bar in the harbour you've got to be wary of.
Ed! Get yourself to Little Athens in Meanwood, excellent Greek food!
Greece is my favourite place, but I like Corfu ❤
Had a shit day thanks for the laughs 😂
"theres i migrant crisis here" LOL two people in a boat
Go to Athens and the border and you will see plenty, they just haven’t made it to the islands yet you muppet 😅
If RuneScape has taught me anything it's that windmills use wind to mill grain into flour
BRILLIANT and blatantly brash funny
Gyros is a greek kebab and very easy to make in the uk :D if u ever want to try it
I can never figure out why people confuse licorice and aniseed flavours, they're not very similar.
(Ouzo is aniseed)
