Clear and easy-to-follow video. What's more amazing is you do it in four languages...and it sounds like Sèbastien and Wolfgang do all four! That's an amazing talent and gift...especially given the technical language required.
A huge thank you for these videos, they are really really helpful! I got my T8 and most of the jigs a couple of weeks ago and I can't stop sharpening every tool I got in the shop (and they are a lot). Huge thanks to you all! Greetings from Greece. With great respect Dimitris Klonos
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! We are glad these videos are of use, and that people from all over the world watch, learn and get inspired. Stay sharp Dimitris! :)
I have found your sessions extremely useful. The lessons, along with continual practice, has meant my tools are much sharper, and easier to use. Not to mention that it has saved me a lot of metal. My first chisel is much shorter than it was due to my inexpert attempt to keep it sharp. .A lovely Tormek (present from my family) along with your videos have been increased my overall enjoyment of carving as a hobby.
Hello from Victoria Texas , USA. All your episodes are fantastic and I’ve learned a lot! I am so thankful that you are putting these videos together for the world to see and learn from! I have the classic Tormek sharpening machine the Tormek Super Grind 2000 and it has served me well and still going strong with no complaints...I Love my Green Machine! Maybe you can do a line up of all your Tormek machines from the very first to the present so the World can see each one. It doesn’t have to be a long segment just show them & name them in order from the first to the latest. Thank you so very much for all you guys are doing to help the sharpening community around the world!!! There’s only so much the manual can show you but seeing it in action and learning more about the way everything works is fantastic!!! Take it from a visual learner the information that you guys present is spot on! Can you please tell me when is the next live feed??? Maybe you can end each program with a date and time of the next live feed? Best Regards, Johnny Ray S.
Hej Johnny thanks for your great and honest feedback! We will do type history of Tormek special many have asked and wondered. I can´t tell you when, but it is in the pipeline of planning.
Having just taken delivery of my new Tormek T8 Black Edition, I am greatly inspired by the proper jigs to use which I have in SVD-186R & SVS-50 to do the job properly to sharpen Carving Tools as well given I was told I could not do so except by hand. The machine is quite a Masterpiece of engineering.
Thanks for a very good session on carving wood carving tools. Carl Wiggins Geisler-Morder Austrian Wood Carving School. Look forward to another session.
Thank your for a great session! I am very fond of the drill sharpening jig and looking forward to see you demonstrate it. Greetings from Hein Vosloo from South Africa
Thanks for the video. Great as always. I'm using the part about the hook knife. It seem the angle is not consistent. So there are other variables i need to take into account? Where the hook is the steepest it seems that the angle gets more narrow. So scratches move away from the cutting edge. Is there a way to make sure its consistent all the way through? Greetings from Belgium
Hej Jonatan, yes you have to adapt the movement, make just some testing when the machine is not running to understand the movement, it is a bit tricky due the shape of the hook knife, they ar not exactly symmetrical in shape. The movement can be a bit towards or away from you, depending what type of knife. I found it easier to sharpen now with the MB-102 Multi Base, from the vertical position. The rotation of the Stone is then edgetrailing which gives you a bit more security and no risk for a catch. //Wolfgang
I have had a T-7(full-size green) and It has been a perfect unit for setting shapes. I do rely upon 1st quality waterstones for all final edges. ( 65 years experience with all kinds of stones) But a Tormek is the best for reliable shaping and moderate honing. I enjoy your presentations. I do wish that the previous "Multi Jig" was still available. I did buy the latest, but it is not as comfortable in use!!
Thank you for the kind words!😊 You could check out the facebook group Tormek Users and see if there's somone there who might have the previous version of the Multi Jig for sale. I know people sometimes sell tormek gear there. Stay sharp!
I have handmade carving knives (sloyd knives). The bevels are not the same. After I sharpen one bevel, do I need to use the bevel marker when sharpening the other bevel or can I just flip the knife after sharpening the first bevel?
Thanks so much for these. Quick question you talk about showing how to use the MB-100 and Diamond wheels for side sharpening for flat bevels and wonder if this has been done , as I cannot find it. Found a brief video on the MB-100 from Nick but not much more. For example I would love to know how to set up both the SVD-186 R and the SVS-50 for skews and gouges. I have just purchased all 3 diamond wheels and have all three jigs.
Hi Pete, We have planned having a specially dedicated episode on the MB-100 and sharpening on the side of the stone with the diamond wheels. It will come sometime during the spring. Stay tuned.
Thanks for all the nice tips. I would really like if you would make a better tool for sharpening sloyd knifes and other small knives. Like the More 106. I guess that would benefit both my Swedish brothers companyes 😊
Thank you for the kind words Max, and glad you like our sharpening class! The SVM-00 Small Knife Holder is an ingenious invention in my opinion, but i agree the centering could be improved. That might be something to look in to.. Thanks again and stay sharp! 😃
It is fully possible, but then you have to be aware you might cause irreversable damage to the grindstone, since you cant true it on the side. Hence we can only recommend the usage of the MB-100 Multi Base with the diamond gringding wheels. Stay sharp!
I used to sharpen my axe by hand, I thought my axe is very sharp, then I got tormek, after I sharpened axe with tormek only then I experienced what really sharp tool feels like, I had no idea, it slices wood like butter just by pushing axe down, what a difference
@@SuperMusicFan2012 Hej Tienie, just use e.g. some blund back of a blade and hold it a bit diagonal and scrape the used paste of the leather. We'll show it in the next episode.

Does the hollow grind on the outer bevel of a carving gouge not cause an issue. As your doing a scooping motion and riding on that bevel. Or does the diameter of the wheel make this negligible?
Thank you for a good, relevant question Kevin. You are right that in the very most cases the hollow grind produced is negligible for a carving gouge. Thish episode of our sharpening classes might have some more answers to any other questions on the subject: ruclips.net/video/3r_1mZ9XjIs/видео.html. Stay sharp!
I think that you should revisit the draw knife again. The one you showed is fairly thin, flimsy affair and appears to have a minimal bevel for a draw knife; and is it common to sharpen draw knives with the direction of rotation then?
Thank you for your feedback Glenn! We will look into the possibilities of revisiting this. The sharpening process should be the same no matter the size of the bevel. And sharpening your draw knives horizontally with the rotation direction of the grinding wheel makes it more controlled and comfortable but also, as Wolfgang mentions at 41:22, it results in a more gentle steel removal. Let us know how it goes! Good luck and Stay Sharp!
