Yup, me too...I caught the Denver Symphony show. Very special. I love and admire Trey Anastasio probably more than any other person ever in the history of the world, well, Jesus Christ then Trey.
Same here. Maybe not for the same reasons. My long time best friend, & best man at my wedding pasted away of a drug overdose. We discovered Phish at the same moment together (cool story actually)...Anyway we followed them around for quite a bit..even got to work backstage at IT and Coventry. Now I'm 40 and have never been able to listen to anything Phish since his death without crying...hard. Tried to go to a show and had to leave early. Crazy what music can do when your brain ties it to something. Anyway the arrangements here, the orchestra and conductor were SPOT on. This is a special one right here. Rest In Peace Casey❤
@@MakingRecovery You have my deepest condolences. I went to Coventry with 2 of my best friends, we had to park on the highway and walked 17 miles. Those shows were terrible. What I remember most fondly about it, (what we thought at the time) was the last PHISH adventure with my homeboys. Thank God PHISH came back. My friend Castillo, who went on that trip, recently went through lung cancer, he beat it, again, thank God. I flew out to LA last April where he lived with his wife and two kids and we saw PHISH at the Hollywood Bowl for 3 days. They played Life A Beyond The Dream, which was Castillo's cancer fight song and I cried my eyes out but I was able to hug my friend, he made it. It's all about friends and family. I'm really sorry about your friend.
Why not since it starts with an atonal fugue which is what Johanne Sebastian Bach used for his compositions and is a nod to most music aficionados that you are a composer and know what the hell you are doing and is just really cool if you know what an atonal fugue is in the first place. That should tip off most people that this is orchestral at the most, yet meant to be played classically in the least. This however, in general is a masterful expression of tension and release by Trey.
Huh? Music is music... Anything can be orchestrated. That's like praising a poem for being able to be written down. Words are words. Notes are notes. Phish is super talented, but this isn't the best argument imo.
I saw him in 2012 I wanna say with PSO in Pittsburgh where I'm from on 2-14. Great experience 👍 I would not recommend missing it if you ever get the chance
Well , let’s see , he is Indeed a Classicly Trained Musician. Right at home. This stuff was Magical. And was incredibly lucky to catch one. Will never forget it.
Trey conducted the Nashville Chamber Orch. at Bonnaroo right before the breakup, they did a 12 minute version Guyute that was pretty sweet... being spun and the lasting effects of the killer First Tube closer glowstick wars/fireworks might have clouded my judgement on the night though :D
…this is my first PHISH ISH EXPERIENCE BESIDES CHICAGO DEAD SHOW AT SOLDIERS….AND WOW. VERY INTERESTING TO SEE TREY INTERPRET ALL THE COMPONENTS OF THE ORCH. AND THEN SOME (OPERA ISH STUFF TOO) ITS FAIRLY INNOVATIVE AND BOLD …I NOTICE HE PLAYES THE ELECTRIC guitar much LIKE A VIOLIN
@@captainflops474 I took it as her seeing and understanding that this guy's glasses were recording the performance, and she probably wasn't happy about that
I'm not a musician. I don't mind that they changed the tempo from a Phish arrangement, but I keep hearing repeatedley that different sections of the orchestra are not in time with each other for certain lengths of time. I'm guessing they could have used more practice.
Actually he's right, the percussion is off for the whole Gm to C funk part. the woodblock is painfully lagging behind the beat and it makes the whole thing drag awkwardly. Trey starts out smiling but I can tell he's frustrated during that part. It's also too loud to ignore. If you didn't hear it, then you probably didn't listen to it all or you also have bad tempo.
@@ACUTS07 sorry for sounding off like a jerk and unkynd arsehole--its just that he's capable of far better and playing way to safe IMHO.......he may not have been given adequate artistic liberty or the producer had accepted a level of performance in which he should have pushed trey for better? ....so i am sorry for commenting like this......my expectations were getting me in trouble.....but i digress
jamesdun that’s the beauty of a true hollow body. If you’re a guitar player and want to play one without spending a fortune or waiting forever, check out Phred instruments. I have 2 of them and love every single second of every single note I play on them. (I have the Dockstar Koa & the VH3 in brown) worth every penny.
Was waiting for every member of the orchestra to start bouncing on trampolines in unison
I’ve been conducting that piece in my mind since ‘93
Trey is having so much fun out there, so happy for him
What an amazing thing to behold. I've listened to this song for years and to hear it in this way is such a welcomed experience.
His control over his tone is astonishing, mid phrase, mid note, he’s truly a master.
This is my favorite phish song and when they hit the climax here I literally cheered lol
Maybe I needed a good cry, I dunno, but I bawled through this whole thing. This was so fucking beautiful

I get it😢
This was amazing. The fact that YEM could be adapted for an orchestra like this shows how talented Phish are.
At least to my understanding, YEM was adapted (like many Phish songs) for the 4 piece band. It was originally written by Trey as an orchestral piece.
I think this song was a Sr project in college, and you are right
Matt Flickinger well the senior project was “the man who stepped into yesterday”. YEM was written much after that, after a cab ride in Italy! :-}

If I saw Trey play with a symphony, I would be totally cool with not seeing another concert for the rest of my life.
senorkinney Ditto
Probably the last concert I'd ever see honestly. This song didn't translate well.
It's always a little underwhelming.
I saw him in 2012 I wanna say with PSO in Pittsburgh where I'm from on 2-14. Great experience 👍 I would not recommend missing it if you ever get the chance
I was there for this one. Coming back from a TAB show now actually too. Trey is the man, & we sure enjoyed having him in Wa State.
Well , let’s see , he is Indeed a Classicly Trained Musician. Right at home. This stuff was Magical. And was incredibly lucky to catch one. Will never forget it.
Love how that mouth is open no matter what. do your thing Trey!!
I have always wanted to go to the symphony for years maybe someday! sounds amazing!
Sober trey does this kinda stuff
Yeah, because strung out Trey never had any classical background before he cleaned up
I love love love sober Trey. He's the best Trey. 👍💯
This is just beautiful. Thank you.
This is absolutely beautiful .
Interesting watching the conductor navigating through the multiple time and tempo changes throughout this masterpiece!
Best part of Trey's singing solo, was that he was still holding his guitar pick in his right hand the whole time.
A class act! Thanks for posting! Chills!!!
I love how much Red is enjoying watching the conductor.
Trey pure joy makes this very special
I cannot fathom how I'm so late to this magic. *transported*
I was there !!!! an AMAZING NIGHT
Hopeful for another Orchestra Tour, missed the others
Amazing. I was wondering if somehow I was going to be able to hear what this sounded like - THANK YOU!!
I can't imagine doing a bass solo while staring at Trey Anastasio. Awesome!
This is unbelievable!!!
This is beautiful
Really beautiful stuff. Very impressive.
It's amazing that he chooses to do the volume swells with his picking hand when surely they would have allowed him his volume pedal.
Crying that was so beautiful lol
His tone is as awesome as always.
The vocal jam is haunting.
I would love to see Phish with an orchestra! Make it happen Trey!
You kinda got a taste of that if you watched the beacon jams 😄
great view nice capture!
Fills your heart right up don't it?
Wow he absolutely nailed the intro
Wussup stan
Couldn’t resist being the 420th person to like this
I wish an official recording of this existed
FIRE
webster’s dictionary defines “dexterity” as this shit right here
Every little nudge of that volume pot; he’s breathing through that Languedoc
Boy Man God Shit section getting into Rocky theme song territory
Lots of pretentious comments here. Honestly you should be great up to have experience this. Thx Trey!
Needs Frank Sinatra singing the lyrics. Boy, man!
Fly me to Firenze
At 6:47 is that Em to F?
i think its fmaj7 not f
Beautiful...I only wish Trey had let the strings take it out the last few alone
how can you be THAT out of time as the wood block player? unbelievable
other than that, cool performance
Next I want to see Trey conducting the orchestra. It's time to go full Zappa. Ditch the guitar and turn the orchestra up to 11.
2:53 Trey looks like he’s in euphoria.
Trey facing at the orchestra. Thanks Ernie!
once and for all settles the old guitarist debate about who actually knows how to play y.e.m. the same way that trey does. thnks a ton
You can tell Trey wrote that bass solo lol
He wrote every part for every section, bro.
Is it just me or is the percussion losing time on and off once the 'jam' section kicks in?
Definitely, the cowbell was completely off time, almost unbearable.
Wow
That Swart amplifier tho
awesome except for that dude playing woodblock during the jam section
I second this, at first I thought he was tryna be a metronome but it just grew incessant
OUCH! So loud, so out of tempo. He's dragging the whole time. It's painful. And he is so insanely.loud it's just all I can hear. Wow
❤🤘👪

LIKE A VIOLIN
Yesssss! Thank you!
Who's got some courage. I feel good bc my pod is top squad
is it just me or is the violinist (the woman who looks pregnant) giving this guy/the camera/google glass an evil eye the entire time?
Yeah she’s looking at the camera guys like he stole her money and used it to buy tickets to see them play
@@captainflops474 I took it as her seeing and understanding that this guy's glasses were recording the performance, and she probably wasn't happy about that
That's one lucky baby!
I love Trey and I love symphony. But lets be honest. We are not going in for a second listen on this.
🥹🥰🤩
I can't spin around in circles to this :/
Hugh Manbeing I am
Why not?
jedi.
Boy can Trey follow a conductor

major tempo issues, but otherwise...sweet.

Swanky
Schlock....and/or low quality noodling......sheeze
So you think it is poorly composed, arranged, and performed?
That back and forth at 11:00 min is way better than noodling.
why dont you go away

I can't stand this! There. I said it.
what a joke. these real classical players must be barfing that they were hired to play this shit
Damn, you can hear the strings of his guitar!
what
jamesdun yup, that guitar projects, even when it’s not plugged in, hollow body.
