    I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos, Michele, but I'll try. I am just starting my journey with acrylics and do not know anything (my watercolor "teacher" told me I should switch, as I was layering watercolor in what she told the class was, "a style all her own"). I had only been painting for a few months, but after that comment, I stopped painting for the next 4 years.
    I discovered your videos a few days ago and have been spending my mornings looking at as many as I can. The first one I watched was about not allowing negative thoughts to stop you. Thanks for that!
    Given the high cost of paint, I am so happy to have watched this one on spoiling. As a food safety nut, I was able to relate what you were saying. I can't thank you enough. More than anything I just love to watch how you present the material; you have a lovely personality that shines though (like the layers of your paintings!)
    Marge

    Again thank you! Been using recycled plastic food containers with snap on lids, all very well washed and dried, as palates. They'll keep paint fresh for a few days. Michelle, have you ever played with foam brushes? Finding them useful for laying down gesso when priming canvas, without dealing with unwanted brush strokes. Less sanding between coats, if a smooth surface is desired.

    I thought this was going to be about paint going bad in the tube -- which I have had happen twice, at least as far as drying out and hardening in the tube. Interestingly, it was ultramarine blue both times, I think, and I don't know if that is significant or coincidence.

    • @MicheleTheberge
      @MicheleTheberge  3 года назад

      Interesting. I’ve only had paint dry in the tube if I didn’t fully tighten the cap. Did you contact the manufacturer?

    I have an old apple barrel blue water based acrylic paint that became very runny. Can I use powder to make it go back to its old consistency? Or do I have to just throw it away? I shook it but it stayed watery

    • @MicheleTheberge
      @MicheleTheberge  2 года назад

      I am not familiar with that brand and not sure why it should become runny. I have used many other brands over my 40+ years of painting (Golden, Liquitex, Liquitex Basics, Winsor & Newton, Galeria, Lascaux, Nova colors) and never had it turn runny. You don't HAVE to throw it away if you just want to have fun with your painting and not worried about longevity of your work. It's your choice. You could always try to add some powdered pigment (using appropriate safety precautions of mask and goggles and gloves), but if you want to be guaranteed a lasting result I would not try to "fix" the paint but to start over with one of the brands I mention above. If budget it a concern then try Liquitex Basics or Winsor and Newton Galeria paint. Good luck and happy painting to you!

    Hi Michelle, I wanted to thank you for introducing me to the different art mediums, especially pouring medium. I do a little bit of painting but what I do the most is clay sculpting and mixed media. I have found so many wonderful uses for the pouring medium as well as the other mediums. If you can think of any other interesting effects that that can be done with the different mediums I would love to know about them. Thanks again! Take care, Dee😊

    What do you do when the paints turn into gel?

    • @MicheleTheberge
      @MicheleTheberge  Год назад +1

      When acrylic paint changes texture, becomes gel like, separates or gets a cottage cheese like or grainy texture it generally means it has gone bad and ideally you would discard it according to your local waste agency recommendations. However, if you are not worried about the longevity of your artor the strange texture of the paint you could try mixing it vigorously with a palette knife to see if you can get it to smooth out or experiment with using the paint as is.

    I came across an interesting reaction with old Acrylic paint this week. I found some of the cheap craft acrylic tubes that I had bought about 10yrs ago and completely forgotten about. I have been using mainly oils and Galeria Acrylic for the last few years. But the interesting thing about these old tubes was that the pigment had separated from the acrylic medium that it is mixed in. I tried putting some out and mixing it but it wouldn't stay together at all. Have you come across that happening before ? I was just interested to find out if it was because of them being the cheap ones or was it the time factor as some of them hadn't even been opened.

    I was painting the other day and this damn blue acrylic paint was giving this HORRIBLE SMELL (horrible’s an understatement actually) that I could only compare to rotten pickled garlic and onions or sour rotten eggs

      Ewwww. Sorry to hear, Lucien! If the paint was purchased in the past year, I would call the manufacturer and let them know. They might be able to replace it for you.
