Our RTO rules has to change. That's why Indian automobile industry is not growing. We don't have much options to buy. We have only limited vehicles available. We should see how people are using Hylux and other similar vehicles in other countries. Pity on us.
Not RTO rules, but The Motor Vehicle Act and The Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The RTO does not make rules, they sometimes misinterpret laws though and get over enthusiastic.

Who can forget the Top Gear video of the old Hilux being put through absolute hell and still somehow being able to start without major issues. The newer ones have too much sensors and electronics to be that reliable but are still head and shoulders above their counterparts.
What a review guys. Saw 2 Hilux back to back recently while driving in Bengaluru. My wife likes these pickups because she wants to bring mango jackfruit etc from Kerala. Luckily she is not aware of the price. 😁

Been driving this for the past 4 years(2018 model 2.7l v4) , im not a petrol head and a low confident driver, but you wont believe how this pick-up turned my life around. almost ended up in every terrain, be it sand be it sludge or be it rough rocks , hilux carried us safe and sound. The reliability, ease of use and low maintanance make this the first choice of any utility/service provider companys in GCC. We can still see very old arabs bashing hilux models of their same age carrying camels in remote farms with tornado speeds.! No wonder why they call it immortal.! It’s a pity that such a capable and versatile vehicle cannot be registered as a private vehicle as the tag associated with it as provided by the manufacturer is “pickup” not “passenger” and the payload carrying capacity, thanks to the Kerala Motor Vehicle, (Taxation) Act & Kerala Motor Vehicles Rules. A close friend of mine booked it and canceled it due to this.

am using it in KSA , for the past eight years and it is more than ten hundred thousand km .Not even a single dealership service done . just only change oil and filter @ 6 thousand km from local shops and change air and ac filter @ one hundred thousand km .that s all , its still running .......
On pickup trucks i have seen two spare wheels on the loading bay - which serves two purposes 1. Weight balance for good ride on-roads 2. When the tyre burst on offroad you could replace from the loaded tyre.

The truck segment is booming in North America. They offer a wide range of products and if you take the F-150 for example, there is always a barebone model that is the 'work horse' and the luxury variants like the Lariat that caters to the posh crowd. If the Hilux can emulate the range of options like the f150, then there is a chance of it being a success in India. But Toyota has never given the options in North America, there is just 1 tundra and 1 Tacoma and the irony is they still get people to buy it.
have been using hilux 4x4 since 2013, in all terrines.... capability of that vehicle is amazing; I have been used it in mountains and in desert also.... now driven around 1 lakh 30 thousand KM. simply unbeatable....
We have a Hilux in our company... Which haven't seen a service center in last 4-5 months... Beaten up like hell but still meets up all needs.... just twist the keys , fill me up and forget kinda attitude.... Toyotas will definitely outlast human race 😅😅 !!

I like the ride height of this. When you driving on roads, you feel on equal height like patrol, land cruiser, etc. I've absolutely thrashed it in an off road area. Absolutely no issue with it.

Hilux is a legend no doubt, in GCC you can find 80s,90s hilux which still carries heavy load. I will definitely buy a hilux over v-cross

Excellent & detailed review as always. It’s a pity that such a capable and versatile vehicle cannot be registered as a private vehicle as the tag associated with it as provided by the manufacturer is “pickup” not “passenger” and the payload carrying capacity, thanks to the Kerala Motor Vehicle, (Taxation) Act & Kerala Motor Vehicles Rules. A close friend of mine booked it and canceled it due to this.
I saw a Hilux in Harsha Toyota in Hyderabad, actually I went to check out the new Innova but my eyes and heart were on that red Hilux it was crazy' and ended up buying a XUV 😂

Those interested in the legal tussles related to registering Pickup Trucks for personal use in Kerala can refer to the judgements of Kerala High Court in Cherian v. Transport Commissioner (2009) and Hassan Koya v/s Transport Commissioner (2014). In the first case, it was decided by the court that the registration (Yellow plate or white plate) can be done based on the intended use by the customer (as declared by them). Accordingly, the petitioner was allowed to register his 4WD Mahindra Bolero Camper for personal use with a white number plate.
However, later in the second case, it was declared by the court that registration of the vehicle would depend on the classification of a vehicle as decided by the manufacturer, and not the intended use by the customer.
This classification in the case of Pickups is done based on the declared load capacity-whether combined passenger weight is more or less than the cargo load capacity. For instance, the cargo loading capacity declared for Isuzu S-Cab (Commercial) is 1055 kg, whereas for the Isuzu Hi-Lander (Personal) with a loading bay of similar dimension, the declared capacity is 225 kg.

am using it in KSA , for the past eight years and it is more than ten hundred thousand km .Not even a single dealership service done . just only change oil and filter @ 6 thousand km from local shops and change air and ac filter @ one hundred thousand km .that s all , its still running .......
On pickup trucks i have seen two spare wheels on the loading bay - which serves two purposes
1. Weight balance for good ride on-roads
2. When the tyre burst on offroad you could replace from the loaded tyre.

The truck segment is booming in North America. They offer a wide range of products and if you take the F-150 for example, there is always a barebone model that is the 'work horse' and the luxury variants like the Lariat that caters to the posh crowd. If the Hilux can emulate the range of options like the f150, then there is a chance of it being a success in India. But Toyota has never given the options in North America, there is just 1 tundra and 1 Tacoma and the irony is they still get people to buy it.

have been using hilux 4x4 since 2013, in all terrines.... capability of that vehicle is amazing; I have been used it in mountains and in desert also.... now driven around 1 lakh 30 thousand KM. simply unbeatable....
We have a Hilux in our company... Which haven't seen a service center in last 4-5 months... Beaten up like hell but still meets up all needs.... just twist the keys , fill me up and forget kinda attitude.... Toyotas will definitely outlast human race 😅😅 !!
