I still prefer the old £1 note. It’s seemed to have greater buying value than the coins. I never used to break into a £1 note from my purse if I had a 10/- to use up first. You felt quite poor when the green notes had to be used…aye, those were the days Christopher…..🙂
I have a very clear memory roughly 1983 when I was 6 years old standing In a queue at a shop and seeing a tv news story about the introduction of these coming into circulation.
Absolute delight to see these old coins again. well done on securing them from your bank. Very decent of the cashier to help out. Keep up with the cracking content mate. Never a dull moment.
A video of longed for! The old round pound designs were pretty cool. You can't beat abit of nostalgia! Fantastic video buddy! 😊
hey christopher! love your videos, they’re informative and also fun to watch!
i’m from the isle of man 🇮🇲 so as soon as i saw “hill” in the middle of your coins, i knew what it would be. i got really excited when you pulled out the tynwald hill coin! and loved that it was your star find :)
this video is a year old, so you probably know this already but that coin is of tynwald hill in st john’s, isle of man.
the round pound coin is still in circulation here! they’re far less common than the newer ones obviously, but they’re definitely still knocking about!
i love that particular design. i don’t see it often but i found one in my change recently and was very happy, so i kept it :)
Very interesting Christopher, thank you for showing us 😊 xx
Very nice hunt. I really like the old round Pounds. Nice to see them again.
Lovely video, how great to see the old round pounds again, especially the IOM coin. Fingers crossed you can get hold of some more of those one day.
Very nice coin hunt! Loved the designs on these coins!
Can’t believe it’s been 5 years! Shame you didn’t find much but still nice nostalgia
What a fantastic chance to see these old coins! I have a few in my collection, I have most coins - awesome as always Christopher! Keep up the great work
loved this blast from the past keep up the fantastic videos christopher
Hi Christopher, really enjoyed this video. Thanks for the time and effort you put into the channel.
One word wow, brings back happy memories, thank you so much xx
Brilliant! I love the round pounds, I only have 12 up now, always exciting to come across
Oh the nostalgia!!! I am in agreement with you Christopher, why not do commemoratives in the new pounds like they used to? Give us collectors something else to look out for being my principal motivation but would provide another vehicle with which to highlight more aspects of this country and it’s peoples.....opportunity missed! 🤷♂️
They do. I have seen a william Shakespeare one atleast
Because the surface area is too small due to the bi-metalic design?
Great video I really like the design on the old round pound coins, I have a complete date run proof 1£ coins. Impressed you rember that there are 2 2015 shield coins with different queens portraits. The last pound coins were 2016, really wish the royal mint would do commemorative £1 coins again.
You're in luck, we're getting one in 2023 I believe.
Wow That’s A Rare Sight Now Days, Great Hunt! 😀
My grandad had loads of the Welsh Dragon pounds. Used to give us £1.20 for them, this will have been the 1995 ones as we'd stopped by the time the 2000s came in.
Great to see them again, more round pounds if you can please 👍🏾
As an auto electrician I am always removing trim, seats, carpets etc. and find quite a lot of old pound coins, I just chuck them in a celebrations tin.I must have about 150 or so,most of them green😊. I have used them for egr blanking on various vehicles and even machined a couple on my lathe to make a pair of stepped spacers, they were the perfect width.
Hi Christopher. That was good fun. I will have a look at my collection to remind myself which of the coins I have. I think quite a few including a number of the territories. Thanks for the memories.
Loved seeing an old round pound hunt, 💫 find would be the IOM.
Hopefully at some point soon you’ll be able to do another one.
Great stuff Christopher 👍🏻
How do we get the old version of the 1£ Coin?
That was great to see the old £ again 😊👍
Good hunt Christopher love your vids keep up the good work
Great video bro. That welsh dragon brings back memories from when I was a kid in year 3. I remmeber when I first started seeing them I told my dad to collect "the dragon pound" for me and I eventually 15 or so. Was gutted that my mum used them one day to pay for pizza cause she forgot to get cash out... never forgave her for that lol. They were really shiny back then too
I love having the forth bridges near my door step.
The memories of these coins and the memories of your 1st round pound hunt, back in the day lovely video thanks Christopher happy days 🥋👍👍
What a great video buddy I loved the old pound designs
Such a nostalgic hunt. I collected one of every design for my collection. Some designs were minted more than once but just one of each was enough for me. I have a number from The Isle of Man, my favourite being the one with the chapel on it. I also have a number of designs from Gibraltar, my favourite being St George and the dragon. I have one from the Channel Isles and the Falkland Isles too. My favourite is an extremely rare milled but unstuck round pound which has an edge inscription but is blank on both sides. I have the last round pound too 😁
dont care
@@TheArcade27so what? If you can't be nice, don't reply
@@elliottprice6084 don’t care we didn’t ask for your little story
@@TheArcade27 who's "we"? I'm allowed to put what I want in a message. Who are you to say that I can't say what I did? Or are you just being petty and jealous? Get a life you nasty piece of work
@@elliottprice6084 telling me to get a life when your probably 50 and telling someone on youtube who clearly doesn’t care your little fable about coins no one cares and get off youtube and go have your 3rd divorce
Great video. I miss the old round pounds. The floral series was my favourite set. What was your favourite ORP?
That Isle of Man is a peach of a find. 🍑 It’s worth asking for these at the banks, people hand in the odd ones all of the time. Nostalgia indeed
A different hunt. Very interesting things happen to those who talk to the right people and establish that relationship with their bank.
I agree with the Isle of Man coin being the star find here.
Great video. Love the old pound coins
Love the rounds. Lots of great territories to find as well as the withdrawn UK issue
I've got everything crossed for new commemorative £1's. A new set of UK Capitals would be amazing on them....who am I kidding? It's hard enough wishing for 50ps. Very interesting this though, they feel like 50 years ago, not 5 😂👍
For every coin handed back to the banks ,the coins are melted down and put back into the mint to be reissued in the edges of the new pound coins and 2 pound coins ,so making them a little rarer .
You ought to learn to spot forgeries, if you don't know what you're looking for, forged pound coins are badly worn and sometimes black residue will be left behind on your hands if you rub the coin.
All of those Leek £1 Coins , Time for a Toilet 🚻 break ! . It's all Water 💧 under the Bridges 🌉 🙌 now .
Wow that was very enjoyable, super IOM coin. The only round pound I got is the Walsh Dragon 🐲 👌👍
I have some absolute mint £1 coins from the 80s. My dad kept them wrapped up for all these years and I was given them :)
That brings back loads of memories I have got some but I need more for my album. 😀
Isle of man my favourite. Great video
nice hunt I have a few of those 1 pound coins did not know they were no longer in circulation
I loved that £1 coin hunt and started one myself, with a few old £1coins
So looking forward to watching this now
Another Phenomenal Video All The Best.
IOM star find, great old designs. Stay safe buddy
Hello from Los Angeles!
Great video, I became instantly obsessed with those chunky, funky, round pounds.
I have three, my favorite is the ‘oo Dragon. I had it made it into a pendant, it’s quite literally,my crown jewel. Have a great day, God save the King
Your American Cousin,
Michele
Great video.. so nostalgic.. I only have a small collection of these as I never realised that there were several different dates on some designs.. so now it's an impossible task to get the ones I'm missing.. IOM is the best find in my opinion.
Love the round pounds. I have a few, but only just started collecting them.
Something special about old circulated coins. Great viewing. Isle of man coin is a fab find.👍👍
nice one Christopher
I love looking through the old pound coins, I'm still looking for loads of them and wish I could get them all
Agreed!
How are you getting on with finding the old one pound coins Liam,I may be able to help you out if your stuck
thank you . Realy enjoyed this.
im from Moscow originally, but i lived in Stockport from 1988 till 1993 and visited the UK lots of times after, and I have a lot of coins from that era!) i never thought this could happen, because in my mind it was the thickest coin i ever touched. and I love coins, I’ve touched quite a few😂
I have a couple of fruit machines that only use old £1 coins, so happy to take any off you that you don't need then I can use them as 'tokens'.
Good job!
I have a few old £1 coins. I’m wish I started coin collecting early and collected them all. Hope you do another one sometime!
Awesome .. I have recently done 2 bank runs of £1 rounds.. first one was £140 2nd was £240.. all I was missing was the London and Edinburgh city coins
I've got tons meaning to trade with the bank however you intelligent gentleman you just opened a whole new collector's perspective. dear thanks
Love the old round pounds. Only coin I have a complete date run, including all nifcs
That territory is beautiful 😻 my favourite round pound are the Scottish variants great video x
Wow
@@shamsunnahar2118 yea. He’s got some awesome coins there 😁
I am not a big coin hunter, I kept one of the old £1 coins, and some of the 50ps coin as I noticed some nice designs on the coins, like Olympics 2012, Isaac Newton etc. I am more of a collected of keeping coins when I go on holidays and usually the smallest note possible,
how weird i was thinking a one coin hunt would be great at the weekend
Very nice ,they look quite thick .It would be interesting to see what one ways in grams.I have a coloured 1 OZ Silver Welsh Dragon from the Perth Mint MIB..Cheers from Tassie.
Always watch till the end
Simply brilliant 👏 👌
The only thing I'm missing from my coin collection is like it's a gold England thing Christopher show me a video if you have it:)
Get some goalie gloves, that will treble the size of your hands. :)
Missing some of the ships but have Resolute, but no nifc
Nice I’d love to do this again
Sir your video is straight forward appreciate i saw alot coins video they talking about rare coins value when we have it we try to sell no buyer what a sad story
In gibraltar, they still use round pound coins, just not uk ones. They mint their own editions.
Another thing you'll notice, is that the 1985's quite often look weakly struck...
I was going to say to you in the last video that I used to be called round pound as my nickname lol
At school
Yeah why dude?
memories going to school with exactly two of these in my pocket for lunch money :P
Odd that you didn't get either of the thistles (1984 and 1989), those were really common.
I still really miss the old £1 pound notes ,
I miss the £1 note
Love and miss the old round pounds
How I can get that paper with all the coint 1 pound ? to completed my collection ?
I have a handful I was planning to cash in. I'm not a big collector, I just enjoy the designs. Should I be looking to sell them instead 🤔 and where? Sorry if this is not appropriate to ask here.
You can swop them on the change checker app (no money to change hands). Look up old round pound on eBay where you can sell them, just make sure you add the cost of postage and the percentage that eBay sticks on for the use of the site
@@nickmaynard9179 Thank you. I might just hang on to them after all😆
@@maried500 yeah. keep hold of them they will be worth to keep, i recently purchased a old coffee jar that had lots old British pennies inside the dates ranged from 1775-1945
i got it for 8 pounds but its worth an estimated value of 200-300 pounds must of been 600 of them best to hang on to coins.
I had a lot the mother in law collected, no idea what to do so I banked a number of them. I think a few were fakes. I told my laundrette not to change their coin acceptors as they could just sell the round pounds as tokens - 10 for £10 , which they would get back immediately any way.
The withdrawal of the old pound coins was a bit of a bodge job, if I remember correctly. Hundreds of millions of old pound coins have avoided the Royal Mint crucible, so its not surprising that you managed to get a hundred of them: good relations with the bank pay off.
Round pounds were badly out of date and did desperately need replacing, due to the fakes, but I still miss them all the same. One of my favourites is the 2006 Egyptian Bridge design and the 3 lions design.
Hi Christopher, where can I get the coins chart like the one you had please?
Cool video 👌🏼 I've got a 20p coin with 4 keys on it. So you have any idea what that is?
I remember the day I first saw a non round coin back in 2016 when I was in year 7 my mother had let me have it. What a long time it seems now since then
Good morning 🙏...
Could you please explain to me how you do your money runs please...
The 2013 shield is the rarest shield year
I once had a George and the dragon pound coin and spent it accidentally 😅
the strike quality (or wearing) of many of these is appaling, are you sure some are not counterfeits ? , and why did the bank not send these back to (the mint ? for destruction ? or is the cost of handling too great for them ?)
Yeah some are fakes 🙂
Nice to see you sorting the old round pounds. I do have all of them including the NIFC's 👍
where can i get a old pound coin date run from
Maybe you could make a date run book for the old £1 coins?
Good video
The frist 2002 one is a fake counterfeit
I keep on running into this channel on accident when I collect US coins n stuff XD Yes, I'm from the us
i collected them all using a change checker folder, plus i collected a few isle of man and cahnnel islands and such ones mins the ones re released i only collected the orginal ones
"Three lions on a coin, Christopher still beaming..."
I have many available for purchase on ebay
My listings usually have a blue or green background
My old house was just to the left of the far arch of menai Bridge. Moved away in 1987 😢
