- Seeing as I had a long drive ahead, I thought what better time to try my hand at vlogging, (Feel free to comment below how poor it was, aware about sound issue).
Topic today is my trusty LDV Maxus Van 100 miles shy of ticking over to 170,000.
much under rated for the day and far better than most ever thought even now.
I just bought a 56plate. Looks great underneath no rust on chassis. Great runner smooth drive.. Needs a service though.. Next job. 👍 😁
I've had one since 2008, done over 200,000 miles and if I could buy a new I would. The best van I have ever owned. I love mine
Chap up North sells new ones. Chinese brought the design of ldv.

Relaunched in GB and Ireland 2015 Chris By SAIC (Shanghai Automotive) Harris Group (Dublin) are the distributor Great to see loads of them back on the roads over here They still have your well trusted VM Motori unit under the Bonnet.
@@rjwakeman the crap from china is utter shit, AVOID.
@@ghmusic8116 the crap from china is utter shit, AVOID.
My 2008 ex. Post office Maxus just flew it's MOT with only advisory on rear tyres. Brilliant motors. Oil change twice a year and it keeps going, never missing a beat. Economical, reliable and cheap.
Brilliant vans, I love them. People slag them off but they keep plodding on and on. There are no such thing as bad LDVs, just bad owners.
@@thehighwaycowboy2822 except convoys and pilots which were dated vans from the 70s
@@terrificspokesman7416 Now I have to say I love the Convoy's. Basic, slow and dated but charming and reliable
@@thehighwaycowboy2822 I had one as a minibus and everybody complained. It had problems with build when it wasn't very old and vas very bouncy and loud. But each to there own
I like my one, it was really low mileage. I find it not a bad drive.
It's an honest workhorse
I had a 2005 extra long high top bought at two years old with twenty two thousand on the clock, when I used it everyday for parcels it was brilliant, but when I got laid off and used it less it seemed to get woolly , there was a problem with the clutch actuating arm, which I believe was a recall, I just made it to the dealer as it bent completely, after that the fulcrum the clutch actuating arm pivots on broke, I managed to get home in third gear and I replaced that, something went wrong with the egr and an injector, when I had the cam belt done the garage insisted on replacing the water pump which is in a very awkward place and the mechanics struggled to do that and ended up costing over 700 quid then had a wheel bearing go, apart from all that I loved the van and it was a great drive on long trips, turned it into a campervan in 2009. The conversion is on my channel if you are interested.
Shall have to check out the camper conversion. That’s a few issues...only clutch related issue I had was seals on the Slave and Master Cylinders going...thankfully easy swap.
Someone’s brought mine back to life and is still on the road locally.
Brilliant vans, that 2.5 VM diesel is a great engine.
Though I've heared that they are very bad in LTI TX4s. Is it just that the parts that LDV put are better
@@terrificspokesman7416 I think they run better in the ldv. Good engine but I think they can get a bit hot in the Lt taxi don't think the automatic box does it justice either.
Is it because you've got a good lucky Maxus or they are mostly reliable? I'm after a cheap 05 one but put off by negative reviews from past owners.
L.D.V. Maxus the best van i have ever had ignore and ignore again all other comments. Most negative comments come from those that have never had one
The only van that was better was my Toyota Hi Ace but sadly not big enough for my needs.. I have had Mercs, Fords, and many many more !!!! The L.D.V. is probably
not as well finished in the cab well not quite but when it comes to cost who honestly gives a shit ???? My van is now 15 years old and no rust yep no rust never let me
down and is commfy enough to drive 200 miles no problem.. The doors still work not like my last transit the engine and gearbox still work fine not like my last Merc
and My expensive merc was as rusty as fuck !!"!!! Sorry for bad language but its true !! Don't let the so called know it all's put you off ... They are good solid vans
that save you money both on purchase and running costs mine still on original discs ... As always make sure you change your oil frequently and just keep driving !!
Electrical issues only come when you mess with whats already there if it ain't broke don't try to fix it ?????????? I had the same experience when buying a T.V.R. Oh my
god why have you bought that they are crap Well crap or not most petrol heads want one and again most that make comments have never had one if you want a T.V.R.
get one yet again i found them to be a fantastic car cheap to repair not complicated and again mine has never let me down so whats the fuss all about ??? I am not sure
about the later L.D.V. from China as i have had no experience as yet but when and if my old bus gets to selling stage i will most certainly give one a go !! Just to confirm
my van has now covered 235 k yep 235 k with no real issues and as i said still on original discs but i did change the pads even has original battery .. Hope that makes sense
and if not up to you but all i can say is this most modern vans in my opinion are a rip off unless you lease or hire and even then you pay the price if they are off the road !!!
L.D.V. Rules solid reliable and much cheaper than those vans with a fancy badge which means nothing Profit is profit which ever way you look at it and small businesses
need to watch every penny to survive do they not ??????????? THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been looking at these as one for my first van. I see them on the road all the time. I really might invest in one of these. I like them, they look old fasioned they seem controversial and everyone bashes them and I like that. For the most part I hear good things about these vans. I drive a Citroen relay luton at work.. Gotta be on par or better than that.
Long as it’s been looked after it’ll be a good van 🤚 🪵 .
Simple and reliable mine was.
@@rjwakeman They dont look old fashioned .The transit looks ole fashioned,,for a start the transit It never changed rusts & ends up in the scrappers and because the newly built transits never did change ..the scrap yards are full waiting for crap to put on their next rust box .Mine looks like a new van lol
I just bought a tipper 08 plate its solid if it were a mk 6 transit it would b rotted to f...
I drive a 56 reg maxus fridge van for work delivering food to foodbanks. Does 300 miles a week.its done 45000 MLS in the time I've driven it. Milage is now ,149k. Ive found it to be reliable.does 29 mpg. It's the 95 / 3.2 ton. Best thing is the engine. Good motorway cruiser.2500 rpm at 70 mph. I've never had to add engine oil in it in ,45 k miles. Lol. VM motori engine is brilliant. I actually enjoy going to work and driving it
Reassuring these are actually better than I'd expect from ldv, they are by a mile the cheapest used van out there
Av had a few ov them i swear buy them. Wouldnt win no beuty contest but good solid workhorse that wont let you down. Only 1 fault i could mention is there only 5 speed.
Yeah Revs do sit a tad high on a run. 6th Gear would have been a god send.
I’ve not yet tried one of the new remakes, feel I need to arrange
gg
I think the have the same engine as a jeep...I have heard the more modern Chinese built V80 is a bit grim.
avoid the crap from china its utter shit.
Well that's reassuring - given the raft of moans, complaints and cries for help on the net I thought I had the only good one. Which is good as it's been in France for 4 years doing a regular overnight 600 mile trip between Brittany and Corsica - a breakdown at night in the middle of nowhere would upset me. The others are probably just abused by builders, dunces and mechanical villains . Amongst th enerds this would merit setting up a Reliable Maxus Owners Club where we can swap stories of what never went wrong....! BTW, it's got the italian VM engine as used in the London FX Taxis - explains the reliability, longevity and lack of leaks? Ref brakes - LDV didn't design them of course, just chose what they wanted from the sub-contractor's catalogue. If the rears are not wearing (mine do, lots) maybe all the effort's being handled by the front pair? You'll know for sure if the van swaps ends in the wet. Agreed, rust is (almost) non-existent - stho' some panel joins on roof need regularly seeing-to.. Stopped condensation dripping into cab & staining roof liner by lining roof with 5mm polystyrene roll. Finally, for Chris Goodson above - you might know that the chinese (who bought the LDV rights and machinery) have been producing the Maxus for a few years and are just beginning to import it back into the UK (apparently). Trivia - a (misguided, I can think of better things to do) chinese couple made a trip to the spiritual home of their beloved Maxus (er, Birmingham) a couple of years ago). Hmm - sorry it's been a long post....
Here's my 2 pence worth...
Worst van ever ! That's what everyone's mate says !
As an owner, ignore what your mate says or even your mates mate.
These vans are great, easy to maintain but remember they were cheap and judge them on this.
Engine is a vm motori 2.5 that is very reliable ... as used in the tx4 black cab . Gearbox is Chrysler. Lights indicators , wiper stalks and steering wheel are deawoo matiz . A true Frankenstein but reliable. Good on fuel. Parts are still available.
Ldv are or was a brilliant van
Certainly are brilliant
Vans. Convoy's were fantastic
I just brought a 57 reg had it one day and now it just won't start
easy fix
(1) LDV Maxus we can fix it and LDV V80. | Facebook
This video just a picture of your head mate, I wanna see an LDV van
Second two thirds inaudible
All good have a 2009 and as you say it just does not go wrong not like my mates transit 4 weeks work 1 week in garage my other mate has a vaxhaul
3 weeks work 2 weeks garage Renault well me other mate did a bit better 6 months no bother then clutch went 12 months later gearbox This was after
them telling me i was an idiot for buying a van that had done 68k for 3k and it was the dreaded Maxus i was worried sick for the first 12 months
because of all that had been said but i just could not afford more monies at the time .. Well 3 years in and it does more m.p.g. than most 120 b h p vans
It needed a cam belt which cost me a lot 450 fitted with water pump and thats it end of no more !!!!!!!!!!! thats all it has cost me.. The M P G is really really good
better than me old Toyota Hi ace Its also bloody comfy gears a bit stiff untill you get used to it and the radio is crap but who cares i can still hear Ken Bruce
but could get a new unit if i so desired. Anyway as this chap said one of the best vans i have ever had and will be keeping even with well over the 100 k on the clock..
I could afford to buy 3 of these to one of the other vans my friends have bought so who's the stupid one ?????
Yep the LDV is absolutely a brilliant van. I was in Chester yesterday and the town centre was brought to a standstill by a brand new 19 reg Ford Transit broken down. I have lost count of the number of people I know who have bought new TranSHITs and regret it. Once a TranSHIT breaks down it never runs again. I know someone who had an 18 month old TranSHIT and fuel pump went on the M62, ended up having to write it off cos it wouldn't run again. I honestly don't know how Ford are allowed to get away with it. If Transit is the backbone of Britain that explains why the country is in such a mess.
LDV were and still are the best vans on the road.
Ive heared the Chinese versions are alot of worse
they are and rot badly.
driving without due care,,,,,and get your hands on the wheel......muppet
