What is the gospel?

The gospel. Ever heard a ‘gospel choir’ or some guy speaking about ‘the gospel’ on a street corner and found yourself wondering, just what is 'the gospel'? The word "gospel" means 'good news'. But what’s the news? And what’s so good about it?
