When given the opportunity to tour any part of the Discovery Princess in 2022, Adam chose the engine room, and a fascination with cruise-ship engineering was born. So it's not surprising Tested jumped at the chance to chronicle the building of Princess Cruises' newest ship -- the Sun Princess -- at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. One of the defining features of this ship is its glass dome and sphere. But ... how can rigid spheres and domes remain watertight on a ship, which flexes while at sea? Well. Here's how.

*We've had "Green washing" ... now we have "Adam Washing".* Cruise ships are unbelievably polluting, using the worst type of heavy fuel oils. Want to take a tour of the deck while under power ? You'll experience some of the worst air quality you ever will ... literally walking through the exhaust haze. And what's worse, the ship companies think nothing of running the engines while in port, polluting the city they are visiting ( hence a few European ports have banned the practice ). Your greenhouse gas footprint will be terribly high going on a cruise. And they spoil the port cities they visit. The Netherlands is starting to ban them. Disgorging thousands and thousands of tourists upon a city for an 8 hour stay. In time these ships will be banned. Do your bit and boycott them. *Adam .... forget the great tech blah blah. These things are not part of a global climate emergency solution.*

    • @Czechbound

@@modestmousecoloredperson Granted, it sounds extreme. But it caught your attention - that was the point. Really, it all comes down to personal choice. Fly less, use public transport more ( if you can ), swerve cruises, support investment in renewable energy, if you're a celeb like Adam, think deeply before endorcing things that pollute like cruises. Nobody has all the answers, but it's a full on clime emergency. it's here. That too can sound "kinda insane". But it's what the UN, WHO and scientists are telling us. Anyway, peace and love !

I presented a full bore defence of not supporting the polluting cruise industry. Yes, it can sound extreme. It is. Wake up. Yes, that is me suggesting you wake up. And don't backtrack : your initial comment was about eco-minded comments sounding extreme, not people-telling-people how to live being extreme. Nobody is telling anyone what to do in real terms. That only works in real terms if you have the power to make them. In colloquial terms - the terms we use every day, telling people to wake up, not backtrack and to be more concerned about the environment is just that : colloquialism. Do what you like. Adam can do what he likes. But at least you're doing it in knowledge that it's not the best for the environment. I don't have kids, so in one sense I shouldn't give a flying f??? as I won't be around to see the worst of what will happen. But we all have to pull together ( and no, that's not an instruction, it's another colloquialism.
