According to Strongs Exhaustive concordance, Light is not OHR as you stated. It is "owr," ore which means "illumination or luminary, in every sense, including lighting, happiness-bright clear day light, morning sun." The root of the word means "to be cause or make luminous. Break of day, glorious, kindle, be, give show light, set on fire and shine". In addition, by the context of the verse, Light will govern the day from the night.
@@NattyDaddyDreams The point was he said the word didn't mean, "to illuminate" but meant "to bring order" whereas Strong's doesn't indicate that. However to his defense, various sources DO indicate the Hebrew can be transliterated as either "Or" or "Ohr".

Just 4 words into Dave Adamson's (AussieDave's) book, "52 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know", I was sorry I had purchased it. In fact, on the second page of the preface I had enough of a clue to toss the book into the rubbish bin. He wrote, "Perhaps the best summation of the power of words comes from one of this generations greatest mentors and thinkers - [Harry Potter's] Professor Dumbledore." Abandon all hope of this being either a serious academic book or a heartwarming devotional. The 4th Hebrew word I started to mention is Shalom and Adamson veers seriously off the rails. He tries to convince the reader that ancient rabbis all believed that peace was more important than truth. Well, perhaps for some rabbis, that's why they murdered Jesus, to keep the peace. After ancient rabbis, he quotes his pastoral colleague, Andy Stanley who happens to think that most of the Old Testament is just nice inspirational but untrue stories.

Hi from Israel :). Just stumbled on this video and got curious. I think the general massage of the video is nice, but as a native Hebrew speaker I have to say that "or" just means "light". I looked and culdent find any biblical interpretation or commentary to mean "order". Do you have any source or materials you can link to?
It's kind of stretch but not entirely. Light is a beacon that can give focus in an otherwise unclear situation. So it can be argued that "or" is intended to mean "strong light" as opposed to a weak one, and a strong light is definitely used often to create understanding in obscure situations.

Reading Psalm 1 prompted the question of what does it mean to delight in God's law. I searched RUclips for videos about the meaning of delight and came across this video! Wow! Several years ago at a NOW at BBC you (I believe it was you) explained about a Jewish term used in reference to a wedding. I can't remember the word but I remember it was a great lesson.

@Aussie Dave if what you are saying confuses me a little, if the “light” you are referring to is “order” then why does it say this? “And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Genesis 1:4-5 KJV I realize that there are various meanings for the same words, I’m so confused.
Wait, I'm a little confused. So the word "Ohr" means "light," but DOESN'T mean the noun "light," it means "order?" Or does it actually mean the noun light, but it's being used symbolically to mean "order?" Or, is it like a homonymn and it means both the noun "light" and "order?" Strongs concordance states that light in Genesis 1:3 is ore #216 makes light as luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.):- bright, clrar, +day light(ning) morning sun and to make things visible, and darkness #2822 as chaotic. Are there better (accurate) translational books available from Hebrew to English reasonable 🤔 to purchase? One VERY important correction MUST be made here. Verse two in the Hebrew reads: "And ha-aretz the-Earth BECAME formless/empty and void, and HaRuach of Adonai, The Spirit of the L-RD was BROODING over the waters." The reason this is important is because God did not create the heavens and the Earth, ha-shamayim & ha-aretz in chaos! Elohim created EVERYTHING perfect! BUT, Satan, was cast down into the Earth, and HA-ARETZ, BECAME this way. So then verse 3 of Bereshit/Genesis He said, "Let there be Light!" And that Light is HaMashiach Yeshua, who DID bring order from the Chaos that BECAME that way! I love this. I am teaching youth and I want to use this video. But I need to know where you found out the definition of Ohr meaning order. Is it conjecture or do you have a resource. Or did you just expand on the word light? Also- if we live in eternity with no sun or moon but just by the light of His glory - wasn't His glory lighting up creation? These are great analogies. Speaks perfectly on how to be like Jesus.
You can buy a Strongs exhaustive concordance, which gives every word in the Bible its definition. HUGE Book, but costs very little. Any Pastor or bible teacher should have one and show you how to look up any word. I looked up light and found it is actually OWR. See my other reply to this video.

Strong's concordance defines 'let there be' as 'existence' or something that is finished. Although I like the idea of order from chaos, I believe existence is fitting, as God is the All-Existing One. He went to a place of nonexistence and created existence. We can do that, too, by declaring His words wherever He sends us.

According to Strongs Exhaustive concordance, Light is not OHR as you stated. It is "owr," ore which means "illumination or luminary, in every sense, including lighting, happiness-bright clear day light, morning sun." The root of the word means "to be cause or make luminous. Break of day, glorious, kindle, be, give show light, set on fire and shine". In addition, by the context of the verse, Light will govern the day from the night.

In fact, on the second page of the preface I had enough of a clue to toss the book into the rubbish bin. He wrote, "Perhaps the best summation of the power of words comes from one of this generations greatest mentors and thinkers - [Harry Potter's] Professor Dumbledore." Abandon all hope of this being either a serious academic book or a heartwarming devotional.
The 4th Hebrew word I started to mention is Shalom and Adamson veers seriously off the rails. He tries to convince the reader that ancient rabbis all believed that peace was more important than truth. Well, perhaps for some rabbis, that's why they murdered Jesus, to keep the peace. After ancient rabbis, he quotes his pastoral colleague, Andy Stanley who happens to think that most of the Old Testament is just nice inspirational but untrue stories.

Hi from Israel :). Just stumbled on this video and got curious. I think the general massage of the video is nice, but as a native Hebrew speaker I have to say that "or" just means "light". I looked and culdent find any biblical interpretation or commentary to mean "order". Do you have any source or materials you can link to?
It's kind of stretch but not entirely. Light is a beacon that can give focus in an otherwise unclear situation. So it can be argued that "or" is intended to mean "strong light" as opposed to a weak one, and a strong light is definitely used often to create understanding in obscure situations.
This is all an interpretation by the theologians of a particular religion. That's how any religion is constructed.

One VERY important correction MUST be made here. Verse two in the Hebrew reads:
"And ha-aretz the-Earth BECAME formless/empty and void, and HaRuach of Adonai, The Spirit of the L-RD was BROODING over the waters."
The reason this is important is because God did not create the heavens and the Earth, ha-shamayim & ha-aretz in chaos! Elohim created EVERYTHING perfect! I love this. I am teaching youth and I want to use this video. But I need to know where you found out the definition of Ohr meaning order. Is it conjecture or do you have a resource. Or did you just expand on the word light? Also- if we live in eternity with no sun or moon but just by the light of His glory - wasn't His glory lighting up creation? These are great analogies. You can buy a Strongs exhaustive concordance, which gives every word in the Bible its definition. HUGE Book, but costs very little. Any Pastor or bible teacher should have one and show you how to look up any word. I looked up light and found it is actually OWR. See my other reply to this video.

Strong's concordance defines 'let there be' as 'existence' or something that is finished. Although I like the idea of order from chaos, I believe existence is fitting, as God is the All-Existing One. He went to a place of nonexistence and created existence. We can do that, too, by declaring His words wherever He sends us.
