  • Only $5 for 10 PCBs and every new member get $5 bonus. + Express 24 hour / 48 hour service on www.pcbway.com/ This is the second Nordmende Skandia V24 that I do in the space of a couple of months, but there is a good reason for this 'Sequel'. A viewer contacted me asking if I would restore it as a birthday gift for a family member, so I couldn't refuse.
Having done one very recently, I hoped it would be a simple project, which I could do quite easily. As it happens, a broken ferrite antenna made the job a little more interesting, hence this series.
    I hope you enjoy it.

I built a "contraption" after seeing yours. I call mine a frame. 💡

I suggest you call it a "Bench Stand", "Bench Frame", or "Bench Mount". I was inspired by yours to make a similar one of my own. Thanks for making these videos - they are a real benefit to others of us learning this hobby.

Another very interesting repair on the ferrite antenna coils and checking the circuits bands wiring through.
I have a Loewe Opta Hellas 3841 W, waiting this winter in Australia to do the same repairs.
All wires on the ferrite antenna have been married back together but I am not sure about an SW coil. I do have a replacement SW coil from a spare chassis of parts.
I think I lost reception in repairing the SW coil, which I felt lost signal reception to everything.
In older age the fine wiring is difficult to see and work on, where I will need to do the continuity testing. It’s time to put the magnifier over the job.
Al the damage to the ferrite antenna wires and could be the broken wiring to the SW coil, happened in poor packaged international shipping of a 20 kg radio delivery.
It pays to know the good shipping packers in this hobby!
    Cheers!
    😊

What i did with the BT receiver is: put a small 6v relay with it’s normally closed contact between the output of the 7805 and the input of the 1W dc/dc
    converter.
Then switch the relay coil with a N channel mosfet out of an old powersupply or some other piece of scrap, put a 12v zener across the gate-source and a high value resistor >100k to the supply pin of the em84.
When the eye is off, the bt module is on and vice-versa.
Worked like a charm in the loewe apollo stereo that i just repaired.
I also made a stereodecoder board based on a TA 7343 ic, now i also have FM stereo, maybe something to consider when you have another philips bi-ampli or another radio with a stereo output stage.
The apollo stereo is almost the same as the loewe truxa you did a few years ago.

Those stereo units can sound really good, and adding stereo is probably a worthwhile mod.

I have a suggestion for your device to hold the units that you work on. The 3M, or M cubed, which actually would stand for the "Manuel Multi-Mount" since it is used for a variety of devices not only one.
You have made wonderful progress on this one, and I am looking forward to the next video on it.

@@electronicsoldandnew: the English name for your frame is a jig - " a device used to maintain mechanically the correct positional relationship between a piece of work and the tool or between parts of work during assembly" (Merriam Webster)

When you splice 18:56 the magnet wire on the radio to the antenna coils how about solder and then use clear nail polish a substitution for lacquer to insulate the wire.

I used the heat shrink to temporarily isolate the wires as I wasn’t certain that they would work 😊

These are such a nice radio. Nice to see you doing another one with a little bit of a different issue.
Such a nice thing to do as a birthday gift too. It just makes it that little bit more special.

Wow I saw some old German radios in the newest video from The Post Apocalyptic inventor - Scrapyard -Treasure Hunt East Germany! Repair-A-Thon! it is about 15 minutes in. You would probably love those radios !!! Maybe you have them already not sure !!!

Manuel your cat is at the lab door complaining 8:03 that it wants to see if Frank sent cat treats in the box with his radio like "Uncle Doug" (channel's) customers.
You can always tell your cat that it's not Frank or your fault it's the post office lost it.

Good idea. CTT stole the treats. Its believable as they seem to steal everything else 😊 by the way, just watched a really good video by Uncle Doug on a rare amp. He’s a great guy.

Could let the 6.3v switch in series over the two switches so bluetooth only gets power of both are switches are used. You would need an empty spot on both

That’s the idea. Not sure if there are free switches, though.

Well, I've got roosters in the background of my videos and you've got a cat. We can start a petting zoo... 🐓🐈‍⬛
Anyways, great repair on the ferrite antenna!
Looking forward to the next videos and seeing what you're going to do with the Bluetooth. In my last restoration I managed to mount a leaf switch underneath the pickup switch to enable the Bluetooth board. Is that an option in the Skandia?
Obviously it's quite annoying that you need to take into account the state of 2 switches, but as a last resort it might be an idea to only link it to the LW switch. That band is nearly empty anyways.

    • @electronicsoldandnew
      @electronicsoldandnew  Год назад +1

My cat simply refuses to stay away when I’m in the workshop 😊
I think the option of only using LW is valid, but am also looking at a relay to sue the fact that the magic eye tube is always off when phonons selected. Still not decided.

How was the smell from the heated coilformer? :) In those days they'd made them out of polystyrene.
