Korean horror movies based on a mash-up version of Supernatural Stories/shows from other countries especially Asia.
Their history of the supernatural is extremely scarce as they are not into the supernatural unless they live in really rural areas.
When other asian countries start to produce horror stories right at the begining of their horror/supernatural genre,it is usually based on real life events/supernatural history/beliefs which is extracted from their very own countries.
    Like Thailand-"Eye 10","Mak Nak" etc.
    Japan-"Dark Waters".
For Korean Horror Movies/Shows,take it as a form of light entertainment and a concoction of events based on borderline fiction.
The sad and lousy part is-they try their very best,to passed it off as one of their own.😔

The majority of the population is atheist and perhaps the scariest part of their culture would be the angry ajooma; it was also always why they went more in the psychological horror which worked in an urban, ruthless environment and then zombies of late which served very well as social commentary as we had seen.

@@FishoutofWaterSPFC -Yap,they are "pure" atheist, but the thing is,initially they tried to pass it off as their own and made other countries' viewers extremely angry,it is a blatant rip off till the point that it reveals that they have no avenue of supernatural content to extract from.
If anyone loves horror movies from Asia, the korea horror content is just rehashing from their previous work, made minor changes and passed it off as brand new.
Don't even talk about other movie genres-they are extremely obvious that it is just copy and paste ideas from international shows.
They don't even bother to cover it up and have the courtesy to notify audience that it is a remix but at least-they do not claim it as their own.🤨

@@sweetsuccess7580 ah ok I was not well versed about them passing the supernatural mythology for their own.
The only thing that is evidently theirs might be Mu shamnism which had its root to Buddhism.
For me those key directors like Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho they just made horror movies to cater to their own sensibilities in storytelling and let their actors showed their prowess rather than trying to teach the audience something, maybe that's why they are so effortless in transitioning to Hollywood.

@@FishoutofWaterSPFC -They have no choice,Asia audiences will see through their blatant lies straight away so they have to go to Hollywood without fearing of any backlash, have the confidence in knowing that the American audience do not catch on.
Add to that fact that American love Zombies shows like the "Walking Dead" which based entirely on fiction which they could exploit to the fullest.
