Pasteurellaceae (Part 1) - Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology

  • In this lecture, we discuss a few key organisms in the bacterial family Pasteurellaceae focusing most on Pasteurella multocida an organism which causes important diseases (avian cholera, hemorrhagic septicemia, atrophic rhinitis, snuffles and abscesses) in many animal species (birds, cattle, pigs, rabbits and any species). I also cover, Mannheimia hemolytica, Bibersteinia trehalosi and Avibacterium paragallinarum. I cover the basic microbiological characteristics, taxonomy, virulence factors, common clinical presentations, sample collection and diagnostic strategies, zoonotic potential and treatment options.
