The 2 weeks ride in any direction to defend a kingdom is solid, I’m a history teacher when I always compare it to an elastic band you can stretch it pretty far but it is going to snap when it stretched to far.
“There is no nerd in the world that plays D&D now that didn’t have a dinosaur phase as a kid, and I will die by that.” When I was in first grade and anyone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I would quickly answer with ‘paleontologist.’ My childhood bestie and I used to dig for dinosaur bones in her backyard. "Floors of information, how much to give on top of that" [based on the success or lack of success of the die roll]. That's some very good advice, a great way to think about the GM's role in the story. Success and failure are not absolute.
I like the point. What DMs might want to do is say "here's the basic info you're going to get, now roll for me". Tho I suppose that invalidates a 1 "you're blinded by reflected light".
Also, if you liked Exandria Unlimited and haven’t seen House of Lament streamed on this channel, you need to watch that. It features Amy and others, how great! (I am not sponsored)
Great interview! Absolutely love Aabria, her kindness, her energy, and I loved watching EXU! The last episode was amazing, the set-piece was amazing, and teared up with Aabria and the players at the end.
I'll be honest, I didn't really enjoy EXU but listening to this has made me really re-evaluate the parts I didn't like about Aabria's DMing style in a way that makes me appreciate her (and other DMs other than Matt) even more
Nice talk :-) I really enjoyed EXU and absolutely looking forward for season two! Aabria did a great job and it was a gift to see Matt as a player :D The whole cast was great. Poorly I could not watch it live, so I could barely wait for the record to be uploaded and waited excited for it. And I just have to say: Amy has the cutest, most adorable smile I've ever seen 😍
Aabria has been sooo inspirational for me. I love how she shows that DMing means you can decide when to adjust elements to make the story flow. Amazing story with EXU!
Bringing on Aabria was such a good idea. Matt has had such a profound impact on D&D, and I've thought many a time, "God, what I'd give to play in his game..." but now with Aabria having her own stab at the sandbox he began, it's like, "Well damn, I need to be in Aabria's game!" It's a solid reminder that there are SO many great DMs out there with SUCH different styles, and we can make so many memories that are exclusively our own in our own home games, with their own tempo, and the world at large will never know of, which makes them so special. Y'all are breathing such wonderful life into my favorite game :)
40:30 Yes but Crocodiles don't get tonic immobility. I agree with her decision because it made for a cool moment but in real life don't try that with crocs because they will chomp you.
I’ve loved The Summer of Aabria! Wonderful to see such a great GM/story teller/player recognised and celebrated for her talents. (And I’m also cool with Aabria taking over the world.)
I really hope Exandria Unlimited gets many more seasons. She was an amazing DM definitely a different style than Matt but arguably a refreshing change. It seemed like she rewarded the players for creativity more than I've seen Matt do and really seemed to have fun with it.
I really loved the storyline, of course the characters - both NPC and PC - and how Aabria weaved the relationship between Ted and Opal. Very well done.
While Exandria Unlimited is definently an amusing show that´s really fun to watch. I can´t wait for Campaign 3. Though i do hope Exandria Unlimited becomes this side venture so people that really enjoy both, even if i don´t see myself watching another 4 hour livestream each week. I bet there are enough people out there that would enjoy nothing more.
@@FilipeAguiarCarvalho I´m watching them from the backlog anyway cause they air at 4am in my timezone. Yet lets be honest. 4 hours of content is already quite the amount for me to watch. Gotta be a proper adult once in a while.
It would be cool to se them do their own “CW DCU” crossover type thing. Like, Matt is doing campaign 3….. and over here, She is doing EXU. And if their stories merge at a certain cohesive point… you get a double double episode. 🤷🏼♂️
29:52. Uuummmmm... I'm not an only child, but definitely the kid in the corner eating Reese's cups EXACTLY like that.... I...uh... didn't know there was another way short of blending them into ice cream 🤔🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🥂
My main question to Aabria would be: How terrifying was it to run a game, where the creator of the world you are playing in, is a player at the table? :D
7:30 yea it was supposed to be a low level campaign but then it ended with them talking to gods all the time and getting all these insane buffs that made it into what a high lvl campaign would be, so she just said im tired of low level stuff, lets just make it high level because reasons
Aabria Iyengar makes DMing seem approachable and exciting in a new way that doesn't feel intimidating or daunting. She is a bright, infectious light. I want to see more of her D&D content in the weeks and months and years to come!
Lovely Aabria, I DO like my DM style. I like yours too. Thank you DMing the Exandria series. Hoping you can also return to Critrole again as a PC. Much love and appreciation, Foxy
Aabria has been, since Exandria Episode 1, my second favorite DM (MY DM being my favorite, he’s my DM). Watching her is how is like watching me at my best (a place I have never achieved). My next campaign is going to be epic because of her inspiration.
I think Aabria get a lot of crap for her DM style when we often forget that Matt's style is a bit of an anomaly. Sure Matt is a great DM but Aabria's is more of what you realistically would see in everyday groups and is a fantastic example of a good DM. She runs her games a certain way and I love and respect that she buckles down to it. I can't wait to see more adventures with our chaotic FOODD crew DM'd by Aabria.
it's fascinating listening to aabria. she's clearly amazing. but she thinks she didn't railroad, and yet some people couldn't watch EXU because they felt it was a railroad. i think she tried to cover too much ground, and it could have been an amazing game if they had just stayed in Emon and tried to avoid the thieves guild after finding the vestige (trying to avoid spoilers!). some things were just lost - why did the group forget a week of their lives before the game started? some characters were just goofballs, others like orym looked as if they had a backstory lasting a full campaign
I agree. She is a very good DM, but the game felt rushed. Big fan of Critical Role but only recently watched the last episode. Usually (meaning the actual campaign, the OG crew) I watch it the day its released on RUclips. That being said, I would like to say Robbie Daymond is the standout of this mini-campaign.
It's on R Morgan Slade's RUclips channel, the title of the song is "Remembered in Embers" and it's GORGEOUS! Be aware though, it does have some spoilers within it for both ExU and the Vox Machina campaign if you're not fully up to date with either of them :>
It would be cool to se them do their own “CW DCU” crossover type thing. Like, Matt is doing campaign 3….. and over here, Aabria is doing EXU. And if their stories merge at a certain cohesive point… you get a double double episode. 🤷🏼♂️
CR will die if she took over the DM spot. as a matter of fact if matt ever gives up DM to anyone I think CR dies. people came and continue to come for matt and his friends playing dnd and when its not that anymore, most people will leave. EXU had 1/4 the viewers and from what ive seen preformed poorly or atleast had a mixed reception
@@VagabondVerdas I personally don't think Aabria is a bad DM, but she and they aren't critical role...I come for the production of the Core group , the acting, to immersion...can't replicate that ya know
@@criticalfail1176 Disagree. Robbie is as good a role player as any of the original cast when getting into character...especially so when considering this is his first ever campaign. Aimee's almost as good, and definitely did as well as many of the original cast did in the early episodes. Their characters have lots of depth, and I'm looking forward to exploring more of that depth in Season 2, if it comes. Opal/Ted is currently my favorite player character, quickly supplanting Jester within a few episodes of EXU. Aabria's a fantastic storyteller, and is really adept at weaving in character subplots into the overall narrative. And seeing Matt as a player? Always a treat. Watching Dariax and Dorian's character alignments slowly develop and change in opposite directions has been a cool thing to see in a short campaign like this. All this to say - I don't think Matt's trying to step down as DM. He, Marisha, and the rest of the team are just diversifying (like any savvy business owner would) beyond their core content - see: Blackwood, Undeadwood, etc. Different DMs, different settings, different ambiance.

Other Fullcasters: "Nooo, you can't just spam the same spell over and over!"
Warlocks: "Haha, Eldritch Blast go brrrrzt"
Also Aabria learning to love the smite
THERE'S A JABBERWOCK IN WBTW???

Rolling with the rolling magical croc moment shows how good a DM Aabria is, because that became such an iconic moment in the series.
She's a much less structured DM than a lot of the ones I watch, and it's really cool. You can tell she's a very "rule of cool" DM, and I love it!
I absolutely love Aabria Iyengar and her storytelling ability!

It’s important!
COOL COOL COOL !!! Love this DM!!! Very positive Vibes! (also GR8 DM - what she did with OPAL was very pro!)
Thank you RUclips for recommending this video. Happy to see Amy interviewing Aabria about eXu.
Only five minutes into this one and it's already making weekend chores way more fun haha 😁 two awesome people!
