In the original release of Wintermute, there was a tutorial bit after the plane crash, and it took Will at least a couple days to get out of the ravine. Then he had to take the long way around to the town (the terrain was different then, had to go through the cave, can't go that way anymore), which could take another day or so. So the timeline made more sense then.
Thank you for playing and asking good questions. I have a couple of questions of my own. 1) Didn't Astrid try to look for Will? 2)Why didn't she take the case? (In the first version the case is thrown over the cliff) 3) Where the prison bus coming from? Seems it was going back to Black Rock. Where going to work in Milton? The only other road is going to Spruce Bridge. Was that road accessible to another region?
Nice, excited for this series. I just started the outer wilds. It’s not horror but I think it would be fun to see you do that one too. It’ll get that big brain going. Oh, and while I’m here, darkwood. I think about that crazy legged cliffhanger now and again. I know you’re busy, I’m just mentioning it.
Darkwood was difficult because it's a hard game and I was playing through it when I dove into a bad episode of burnout, but I would love to return to it. And yes, Outer Wilds is another one that I'd love to play through!
Excellent vid as usual Sarah. I love the line of thinking you are pursuing but think you may be straying into attributing genius where its more of accidental happenings rather than designed. Totally agree with your last video about travel to the far territories. I think I would gladly trade that slog for a punch in my face! Keep up the excellent work, looking forward to the next episode.
Oh I am totally expecting many of the loose ends to remain untied, but that's kind of the fun of it because then I can be like "Well I would have written it this way!" 😜
When Wintermute first came out the case is not near the plane but over the cliff to Mackenzie. Astrid is very protective of the mysterious object that it is in her lap just before the crash. Before Episode 3 my assumption was Mathis and the convicts were near. Astrid throws the case to Mackenzie and was either caught or ran away to distract the prisoners.
Oh hadn’t thought of something like that. Always wondered why she didn’t try harder to find and or get to Will. Especially if the case wasnt in her part of the plane.
This was very good Harian, I like your breaking down the story and picking through the clues to piece together the larger story, it is very interesting and enjoyable watch, thank you sharing this, look forward to the next episodes
Trying to analyze the game this way might lead you to disappointment. As big a fan as I am of Hinterland, I fear some of the storylines and plot elements might not all wrap up so neatly after all this time. As an example, have you ever wondered how all the train cars could have logically ended up the way they are, scattered all over the tracks? It'll break your brain.
yeah, the timing is weird and things don't add up -- i feel like grey mother and methuselah are "unreliable narrators," and could be an artifact of an accident with rudiger's device, displaced from time if you want to go the supernatural route. but then astrid's journey doesn't really add up either. From the torn clothing up by the plane wreckage we assume she was there, but why wouldn't she look for the all-important case? it was right out in the open, not hard to find, and was billed as her raison d'etre. i've been sticking to the supernatural element to fill in the gaps, but i'm a sucker for time displacement, and it would explain why astrid didn't see the case and how grey mother can "see" and "hear voices" that seem to be super vague. go talk to methuselah -- i'm sure he'll clear everything up 🤣
I can't remember if Astrid's reasoning was explained in episode 3 but yeah, there are a lot of gaps especially in episodes 1 and 2 that leave room for potential supernatural stuff

Oh wow this explains so much. I didn't start playing until 2021 so I missed the early days

So many good questions! I'll try to remember to come back to them when I've replayed the other episodes

Possible! Perhaps she threw the case to keep it safe
I'm excited to watch this video!!!
...when I eventually play Wintermute haha. 300 hours in and still only done survival and challenges.
I have almost 1000 hours clocked in this game and there is still so much I haven't done!
This was very good Harian,

Yay! Glad you enjoyed it

Oh I am absolutely expecting plot holes. That's a part of the analysis 😉
hii i love ur videos keep it up❤️
Thank you!
I suppose Will could have been unconscious for a day and doesn’t realize it? The plane could still be smoldering? It’ll be interesting.
He'd have died from the cold if he was out that long in the snow
Waking up thirsty and freezing makes it seem like he was supposed to be out for a while but yeah, idk

I like your facial expressions. it's a book.
Haha thanks 😜
