Every one says ali couldn't figure Norton out or that ali never beat norton in 3 fights but interestingly, the second fight ali had with Norton, ali actually fought one of his best fights. Skill-wise, this was one of the best performances ali put on post exile ali and for the entire decade of the 70's. Ali fought Frazier with heart. He fought foreman with strategy. But, ali always had to fight Norton will pure skill and out of all 3 fights with Norton, this was ali's most skillful.
Well said my friend

Truth
Yes I agree with your assessment exactly
I agree. I think that is really well put.
Rip to the great Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton
ali was sharp and ready to rumble . he always had trouble with fraizer and norton but found a way to win the fights. that's what a true champion does, he adapts to any situation. Also Ali's jab is just a beautiful thing to see. You could say Holmes had a better jab, maybe Liston or maybe even Lennox Levis. But watching ali flick his jab while dancing around in the ring... truly the greatest.
For Emir Korkmaz. Yeah Ali had a beauty jab. Your. Right not as hard as Holmes. But Ali was better on delivery because his Balance was better than Holmes. Ali was grest and everyone felt bad becauze of taking all those punches wrecked bim. But...he took them. Better chin than Holmes too. shavers hit Ali more rivht hands like 70 of them. Holmes got dropped twice five yrs aftet Ali fought Shavers. If Shavets had hit Holmes like he hit Ali he would of been champ. Ali had alot of flaws. Sucker for left hooks, christ cooper at 190 had him out round 4 in 63. Dundee cut his glove gave him 5 minutes to recuperate because he got dropped with 8 seconds left in round. Imagine Tyson at 220 hitting Ali like that..couldnt beleive Frazier let his son fight Tyson. He must of wanted him to see what it was like to get hit by Foreman!
@@donaldoneill2117 No, there is something you need to know about Ali vs Cooper
Ali could win the match but he was fooling around cuz he wanted to beat cooper in the 5th round as he predicted
The boxers say that the worse punch is the punch that you don't see, so Cooper hit Ali with a punch that surprised him
like the hook from Frazier that dropped Ali, Ali went for the attack and he got surprised with a hook
I'm 100% Ali could eat Tyson punches
@@zeedozeedo350 listen I know more about Ali than u ever will. I have a boxing hall of fame ring on ad I type this. Have pics with Ali from 77. And Hagler taught me how to box. But Ali said Cooper hit him so hard his kin folks in Africa felt it. Direct quote from him. Watch Facing Ali. And dundee cut his glove between 4th and 5th round. Ali was always a sucker for a hook. Always kept that right hand down.
@@donaldoneill2117 What the fuck do you wanna about?
What's your point?
what is that got to do with my comment?
This was an life and death struggle Ali pulled it within to get the win
Tremendous respect these two fighters had, no hatred. When last round was over, Norton embraced Ali, what class.
never seen that b4 , someone should try that
Norton needed money. He had a child to feed.
In Norton's own words "Ali gave me a chance in life". RIP Kenny
Ali gave Kenny a chance at the good life Muhammad could have chosen anyone but he gave Norton a much needed break and he was grateful
Totally agree
Clear win for Ali 7-5. And definitely one of the 10 best heavyweight bouts in the 70s and one of 5 best bouts of Ali in the 70s.
Just curious. I'm guessing back then they scored rounds instead of the 10 point system used today. Which years was this used?
Norton has such a unique way of moving, you often cannot tell whether he's staggering or repositioning

Ali’s best performance against Norton, but it still was close.Norton, gave possibly the 2 greatest heavyweight champs, all they could handle. What a great era for heavyweights the 70’s were.
This norton at 205 was so close to Ali and ali trained hard and weighed 212. Imagine this young kenny norton against holmes it would have been worst to holmes.
Would have been champ in most other eras
@@BuffaloZx Yes he would had!
This fight was not close, the 3rd one was though.
@@boxeolocopunch762 Holmes was the new Ali, like it or not. He was a great boxer in his own right. I think Holmes would beat Norton at any age, and I personally think Holmes jab was as fast as Ali, and it was harder.
In my youth, I was lucky enough to have had the GREATEST Heavyweight Boxers ever. Ali is the Greatest. He made that era...
This was the fight out of the 3 that Ali won, he did excellent here, but man Norton did catch up with some hard shots, normally Ali has such strength of taking shots and coming back without much noticeable difference, but here he was holding on to Norton when he landed hard, Ali hasn't held on to many fighters, which leads me to believe that Norton was an underrated puncher, given Ali's reaction to some of them
Ali wasn't the same after the layoff
I mean look at ken Norton's physique he's built like a Greek god
The speed of Ali is still incredible to watch to this day.

One of the best fights ever, underrated.
What an era for heavyweights. We’ll never see anything like it again. A time when they actually went head to head and threw punches every round vs the posturing of today.
I agree! I lived to enjoy that era of giant caliber heavies. I can't even tell you who the heavyweights are today. But back in the day, we knew them all. I won't even try to name them for fear of omitting any. I'd even list those European and South American guys who fought with Ali. Fantastic, is the word!
Agreed. Nothing like it. Ali paid a price for fighting those top notch heavyweights
Frazier beat Ali, Foreman beats Frazier and Norton, Ali beats Foreman, Frazier and Norton. Ali the Greatest of All Times.

@@omegasz1759 In the 3 fights with Frazier, either man could have claimed victory (yes I know all about the 3rd fight). Same can be said with Norton. Those styles gave Ali trouble.

@@synagogueofsteak5006 by mooy moo k. XD
At 212 lbs, Ali's physique was fantastic in this 2nd bout with Norton. That gets over-shadowed in comparison with Norton who had one of the best physiques in boxing history. Man, these 2 guys were in tip-top shape to fight that pace for 12 rds.

@@bradleyrobinson7552 ok. I did not know the title was not on the line
Norton might've had a good physique but MAN he had a hideous style. Looks like he was drunk or something (I know hr wasn't). Maybe that's what made him hard to read for Ali, broken rhythm, weird uneven pasing, but unlike Frazier it doesn't seem intentional just a result of no style and poor coordination 😅.
Here Ali is 2 years after he past his prime years but still better than most heavyweight
Alis most difficult opponent, styles makes fights. In Nortons next fight he was knocked out in the 2nd round by George Foreman.
Norton was a great fighter, but he never did well with hard punchers. Foreman, Shavers and Cooney just destroyed him.
Ali is a very bloated fighter. The progressive media inflated him, they present him as a social hero, this is debatable but, after 1974, he lost a lot of speed and his skills from that year on, ir was only these: his steel chin, the rope to dope and receive punishment on his body
Ken was just watching his chest the whole time , when Ali punched , his pecs twitched ,that's how Ken figured him out.
@@salonlaplata you're a nobody...now that is NOT debatable! That's a fact, 🌯!
Seemed almost too embarrassing to watch.
The no strategy power swinging & punches of foreman seems to always knock Norton out.

Some people say that Norton beat Ali in all three fights. Listen if people said that Norton only won the first and third fights that’s ok. But the second fight is the only fight Ali actually beat Norton. He fought a really good fight here. The second fight we can all agree that Ali actually beat Norton.
First fight norton took the first 3 rounds legit. Everything after when ali got his stiff arm jab going he ran norton. Norton never adapted. He still didnt as you can see here, ali started off with the stiff arm jab
Yep
Agree with all you wrote. I think Norton got a bad decision in the third fight. But while he fought a great fight here, Ali fought a better fight, and won it fair and square.

It’s sad we never really saw prime ali, all we saw was the beginning of his prime and the last stretch of his prime, we didn’t see his full prime
His prime was before he was sentenced to jail for five years but he never went to jail because but was able to appeal his sentence on religious grounds and win. He was banned from boxing for three years from when he was 25 until he was 28.
Ali lost his legs due to inactivity and put on too much weight for his fighting style. Plus they say as a fighter your legs is the first to go then it’s speed. Wasn’t as fast and light on his feet anymore. Might needed a new camp
@@dujuanjohnson5025 Ali was fast 💨 to me here

@@3luckydog A grand total of 9 seconds that delay w cooper lasted. You guys keep exaggerating the delay. Besides there was a cut in the glove before the 4th rd ended as the ref acknowledged in an interview.
My favorite fight of their trilogy. Very active and exciting fight. Ali won, but Norton sure made it close in the later rounds. I never thought Ali won the third fight. Ken should have gotten that decision, but people who say he won this fight too, I disagree. He pushed Ali, but Ali gutted it out. One of his best wins I think.
Ali won the third fight fair and square
Ali won the 3rd fight mate, it was an old ass man against a prime Ken Norton what more could you expect? He landed more punches.
Two phenomenal athletes right there. Will never see fights like this again.
This was Ali's best account against Norton, and he barely won. But it's important to remember, this is not Ali at his best. I don't think a 1967 Ali would have had as much trouble against the Nortons and Fraziers. That Ali was too nimble, too quick, with more endurance.
I think he hit harder before he was stripped of the title too, but that is what defined his greatness; being able to win against top guys so far past his prime.
Ali was punching very hard and accurately right before the forced exile.

My father born in the 40s had to feed 4 kids but he always got up at night to watch these fights.....heroes of that time credits to every fighter of that time

In the 1st 6 rounds, it was a shutout. Then, in the last 6, Norton got no more than 3 or 4 rounds where AIi got 3 or 2 rounds in the last 6. So, despite the drama attached to this fight and an entertaining fight(where rounds were scored 1 pt for 1 won by the judges), it was 9-3 or 8-4 AIi. This fight exposed Norton as far as boxers are concerned: he could do nothing on moving opponents. He had to wait until they stopped.
To me, the only reason those fights were close: 1st fight -> Norton breaks his jaw at the end of the 2nd round. Watch for the big punch that AIi rolls into instead of away from(giving the punch more power). AIi was game, but fought like he did when didn't train(beatable to certain opponents). The pain had something to do with that. 3rd fight -> I guess AIi wanted to prove that he could dominate without dancing; he couldn't. But, Norton could have won this, because of that. He rarely body punched in this fight which was not like Norton. On top of that, he was only landing no more than 2 head shots in most of the rounds that did not have the same punishing effect of the 2nd fight. But, the reason that Norton had a chance in this one was because AIi did not dance!
I mostly agree with you. Ali controlled the first half of the fight. Round 5 is could be Ken's though, very close. Ken controlled the second half of the fight, with Ali obviously winning round 12 and perhaps round 9. I had 7-5 Ali, but a clear win for him. That said, Ken won the first fight and was completed robbed in the third.
@@tonyc7301 Watch the 1st 6 again, but I do not see how Ken won 1 of those rounds. He probably did not land 10 punches in the entire 6 rounds. And, AIi was doing want he wanted, culminating in a great 6th round! In the last 6(7 through 12), it was more back and forth. Ken did no better than 4-2 or 3-2-1. This meant, that on the scorecards, all he had to do was stand up until the end and he should have won a unanimous decision that was not close on any of the cards. If 2 point rounds were a possibility(which they were not), Ken would have the edge 2 to 1 on those(don't forget round 6 for AIi). Or possibly 1-0 for Kenny*, but--even if that was a scoring possibilty--this would not be enough to still avoid Ken losing a very decision. If there were 2 pt rounds, then I could see 7-5 being a possible score(because Ken edged AIi by 1 on 2 point rounds either way you slice it).
*Even if the judge scores like Lederman, where they don't score 2 points unless there is a knockdown or a completely one-sided round, This would still be 2 extra points for Ken if they had scored it that way...
Ali’s top 3 performance post his time off after his first title reign. He really figured out Norton in the rematch.
Frazier, Norton and Foreman were most complicated fighters he found thru his Carrier, but Ali shows up Who is the Best. Taking into consideration those boxers were great.
Ali always did his best against Norton when he was able to stay on his toes. When he slowed to go toe-to-toe, they were nearly even. Ali was more accurate, but Norton was stronger.
One big difference from Ali in the 60's compared to the 70's is he didn't seem able to maintain the energy level to stay on his toes as much. Seemed to end up flat footed much more often
hungao, if you look up the stats from the Ali/Norton fights, you will learn just the opposite is true. Norton landed more jabs, landed more power punches and landed both at a higher percentage rate than Ali.
The same is true in a number of Ali's fights.
Because of all the hype surrounding Ali, (he being the source of most of it), perception is much different than reality.

He still danced but he never quite had that head movement and footwork he had before his 3 years of exile. We missed 3 years of prime Ali and he never was 100% after coming back… really sad that time was his greatest enemy… but he had another calling during that time i guess. To stand against the violence of the war and fight for civil rights. I mean theres no better person to take that fight than the Champion of the World the GOAT.
He couldn't dance for 15 rounds in the 70's. 1966 Ali could dance for 15 rounds and still be fresh. In all 3 of his fights with Norton Ali wins the rounds he is dancing. And let's be honest by 1976 his dancing was very sluggish compared to 1966.
While Ali was losing his pace he took a myriad of punch and this damages impaired his both cognitive skills and also he wore down. Sad to witness that Ali couldn't reach his exact prime time (1965_1967 was close to his exact prime but it was not real one )

Pfft! Early on, these announcers kept saying Ali wasn’t “hurt” because he was “holding on”. He’s holding on so he WON’T get hurt! Ali employs this tactic later in his career when he knows it’s going to be a long fight with a tough opponent.
Ali seemed to do better early in this fight when he was moving more. Ali could stay on the move for longer durations when younger and I think a younger Ali would have had a relatively easier time with Norton.
I heard that he injured his right hand halfway trough the fight. That did impact his performance in the later rounds.
I don`t think it would be that close. The 60`s Ali was a different fighter, He had better speed and reflexes. He would have beaten Fraizer easier too. He was just that good. Then 3 and a half years off and he became the slower Ali.
@@omegasz1759 , True. Ali himself said that he hurt his right hand in the 6th round. Most people don't know that he had terrible arthritis in both hand especially the right. This plagued him the most during his first two fights with Norton. Later in his career advances in medicine made his pain a little more tolerable.
holy fuck nortons physique was crazy
Ali-the best!!!Forever!🤩🤩🤩
These bouts wer post Ali’s prime n after his exile for 3 1/2 years , I must say a true champ , the greatest of all time. Norton did give a good fight as well but Ali was more skilful n determined to win. Rip both great boxers 🌹
