  • The Carosello Barese is an Italian melon (Cucumis melo variety Chate or Adzhur) that is picked immature as a cucumber. From the experience of myself and others, there are two varieties that are marketed as "Carosello Barese" that are sold by seed companies. One cultivar is a round-to-oval shiny and nearly hairless light cucumber while the other is a more cylindrical fuzzy light cucumber variety. The nearly hairless one overlaps with the Carosello Bianco Leccese (or Light Leccese) while the more fuzzy variety overlaps significantly with the Carosello Mezzo Lungo Barese. I decided to grow both varieties in my garden to determine how they grow and which one is distinct enough from the Bianco Leccese and the Mezzo Lungo Barese to distinguish it as a seperate carosello cucumber variety.
