- The Carosello Barese is an Italian melon (Cucumis melo variety Chate or Adzhur) that is picked immature as a cucumber. From the experience of myself and others, there are two varieties that are marketed as "Carosello Barese" that are sold by seed companies. One cultivar is a round-to-oval shiny and nearly hairless light cucumber while the other is a more cylindrical fuzzy light cucumber variety. The nearly hairless one overlaps with the Carosello Bianco Leccese (or Light Leccese) while the more fuzzy variety overlaps significantly with the Carosello Mezzo Lungo Barese. I decided to taste both varieties to determine which one has a flavor or texture that is far enough removed from the Bianco Leccese and the Mezzo Lungo Barese to distinguish it as a seperate carosello cucumber variety.

Vine or bush types?
This specific variety will produce their first cluster of fruit when the plant is still very small and compact. But if the fruit is harvested, the will continue to grow and sprawl. Unless in very fertile soil, these usually grow to take up the space that they are given.
@@CucumberShop So, bush or vine?
Bush for the first month, vining thereafter, then it will continue to sprawl out. Unless the plant is in smaller container. In a 2-5 gallon container the plant will remain bushy it's entire lifespan and only produce 2-5 fruit.
@@CucumberShop So basically real bush cucumbers don't exist? They all vine sooner or later?
@@chickenlover657 The Tondo Barese is a bush variety and there are some Carosello Barese that remain compact for longer. This trait can be a bit variable.
