    Chanel Islands are amazing. Had a great day on Santa Cruz a few yrs back. Hiked to Pelican Bay from Prisoners Harbor. So cool. And it's the only island in the world where the Island Scrub-jay is found!

    If you visit the Channel Islands I recommend doing some cave kayaking and snorkling, so epic!

    I find it amazing that you have these islands just off the coast from LA. Looks awesome and those foxes are very cute.

    Great video! Sorry if I missed it but when did you go? I heard you reference winter a few times but I didn't catch exactly what month it was. I'm planning a trip there this December and I'm pretty psyched about it! I hope I get to see some of those foxes!

    Did an overnight on Santa Cruz Island at the beginning of February, 2023. Serene, spectacular and once-in-a-lifetime location. Well worth a visit, either day or overnight. OVERNIGHT CAMPING $84 round-trip for ferry and $15 (through Channel Islands National Park) a night to camp. $63 round-trip ferry for a day trip.

    That’s what I’m talking about! Channel Islands has stunning biodiversity and recreation. I love Santa Cruz Island and would definitely call the park’s visitor center the best of its kind.

    Yes, my favorite part of visiting the islands was those foxes. As small as cats and SO tame around humans.

      It’s wonderful how comfortable they are around humans. ❤️

      @@TravelDash By the way, maybe you already know this, but the story of the Channel Island fox’s recovery from near extinction involved two species of eagles and pigs! Historically, bald eagles lived on the islands along with foxes, and both thrived. Then DDT wiped out the bald eagle population. This left a biological vacancy and golden eagles moved in. What really attracted them were feral pigs, as golden eagles lived off preying on piglets. But once they were large in numbers on the islands, the golden eagles also started wiping out the foxes. So the process of reversing all this damage started with removing all the pigs (which settlers had released generations ago and which didn’t belong in the islands). This reduced the number of golden eagles greatly. Then eventually they were able to reintroduce bald eagles, who steadily took over again. The result was the foxes were able to recover and now they’re all over the place again.

    They forget the part of the story how many thousands of deer elk & eagles they slaughtered for that helpless little fox

    • @veggiedisease123
      @veggiedisease123 Год назад

      They moved the golden eagles to different locations around the US, not sure about the deer, but they weren't suppose to be there anyway.
