- A week full of excitement! The biggest thing by far is finding the missing hearth and mantle surround encaustic Victorian tile pieces. I never thought i would ever see them in anything other than a photo. So excited to have them back!! We also demoed out the maids room and hall and looked at some historic wall paper samples donated to me by Andy at the Campbell House.

This ruclips.net/user/postUgkxATHBlMJwipGgVWseuAFKvDQ_5R4_lywo unit was an easy install and turned out amazing. The dimensions were exact! I took a chance and built the wall prior to receiving the unit which arrived sooner than expected and it fit right in the space I constructed. The heat output is perfect for the space we needed and made the room exactly how we envisioned it to turn out. I am happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thank you for the awesome product just in time for the holidays.
Don’t take this wrong. I love how “unprofessional” your videos are. Truly honest. Not slick and over produced. Great job.I wish you the best.
Agree!
totally agree !!!!
forgot to say how interesting and will follow to the end. Well done .
I am grateful for the strategic use of the time lap.!!!
Not so "professional" in front of the camera, but he did say that he is an experienced cameraman, so we do get professional camera shots, which is a bonus.
DUUUDE! Finding the ORIGINAL tile for the fire place hearth!?! THAT'S what ya call the stars AND planets aligning!
It’s all that good karma he’s reaping from restoring this home’s original beauty ☺️
Mr. Brown is pulling some strings from the beyond to help out his former home
Yes I'm awestruck. Thank you tile guy
OMG! Extremely happy for you. The tiles are beautiful. Keep up the great work, I admire you for bringing this neglected home back to it's former glory.
Very cool, but what about the missing pieces?
Did anyone else get teary about the tiles finding their way back home? This is the best.
Yes!!!!
I was thrilled somebody thought to save them. So many tiles and furniture were destroyed.
Yes!!!!! They are beautiful!!!!!!
me😩 I thought I was the only one
Absolutely Beautiful ❤️
Behold the power of the GOOD internet.
From it’s very introduction, I have been against having a Facebook when everyone else around me seemed to have a profile. Even my Mom has one.
If I were executing something like this knowing it could help in my restoration, my heart would be warmed so much by it.
How did your tiles end up at the other house?
The tiles came back home. WOW! My mind is 🤯😳.
Whoever gave those tiles to you he or she is super generous! God bless him or her. 👍
This is amazing ! It’s so refreshing to see someone who is trying to honor the house and not come taking everything down and making it super modern. I love it.
Amen to that....
i could hear in your voice that you were getting choked up explaining that those tiles made their way back there. your amount of love for this house is amazing and rare and it chokes me up in a similar way
I can imagine how stunned you were that the tiles found their way back where they belong....xo
Im not financially able to donate to your patreon, BUT i will sit all the way through the ads lol
Good idea! I will do the same.
You only need to watch 18 seconds in order for them to get full payment.
Same! This is my contribution

Better than ANYTHING on HGTV!! This Old House has been kind of a let down too since Norm hasn’t been on. Love your house and channel, I’m a faithful viewer out in Sterling, VA.
Green pigment in the Victorian times was made with arsenic. So much so that people with lots of green in their wallpaper suffered symptoms of arsenic poisoning. Isn’t that crazy?!?
I watched a documentary on that very subject! It was so interesting.
Omg ! That's scary !
I came here to say something about that. Be careful of the authentic Victorian items that are green in your home!
I seriously doubt this will be a problem with tiles, as the glaze is actually fired and turns into glass.
I just saw a historical fashion/clothing person on RUclips talk about this, but it wasn't just greens, it was in some reds and yellows, and alot of fabrics and paper were treated with arsenic to help the dyes set and stay vibrant (so it could be hiding in literally any material from that time) Scheele's green is most famous, but arsenic was used in everything. So probably the safest way to do historical wallpaper is to buy modern reproductions or maybe look into a way to seal old wallpaper if he wants to keep any of the original. There is a way to test for arsenic levels too, I bet he could find out how to do it. It would be unfortunate to do so much to preserve some of the original paper and find out it gives off arsenic dust 😫😭
For the front parlor, which would have been the "fancy" parlor used for company, I'd definitely go with the luxurious larger sample with the red flowers. Second choice would be the smaller red sample. The front parlor was supposed to impress, even "wow" visitors. The almost white sample is very lovely, but I'd use it in a bedroom or other more "quiet" room. Love what you're doing!
I thought that, too! The green and red was popular PLUS it would be so fabulous at Christmas!!
Just a little friendly advice - where there is old linoleum there usually is asbestos (before 1975) in the glue and calls for professional removal to be safe!
Can attest to this- Have made this same mistake, found out after the fact
not just in the glue, that stuff they pulled off the walls was Congowall (also called Congoleum), one of the early editions of it too, it's got a type of fabric backing with hardened printing on it to look like tiles, the fabric is a felt-like stuff that contains asbestos because it was intended for use in kitchens as a cheaper alternative to tile in the late 40's and through the 50s. We had one of the later versions that was green with red trim and looked more like realistic tile than the black and yellow version in our kitchen growing up, gramma would yell at people not to touch the edges because of the asbestos, and make people wash their hands if they touched it before eating. A horrifying amount of things had asbestos in them in the days before they knew it was a bad idea, from ceramic tiles and congowall to oven mitts and baby clothes.
Just as you pointed to the floral wallpaper as your favorite, I was pointing to the same one yelling, "That one! That one!"
I thought that floral for the entry and stairway.
As soon as I saw the floral one I knew it was the one, and when he pointed to it as his possible pick, I was so excited.
Personally, I would put that one in a dining room, with a wooden table and chairs, maybe wainscoting, and a china cabinet. It's a busy pattern, so you're less likely to have clashing patterns in the dining room.
Something a little more subdued and neutral in the drawing-room, like the ivory and gold, so that you can add patterns and color to your couch, curtains, throw pillows, and rug. Not to mention the green fireplace tiles, you don't want to overwhelm those.
Bradbury & Bradbury, Benicia, California, makes reproduction Victorian era wallpaper and has a wonderful catalog. They will also take your sample and reproduce it ( it cost money, but yeah....)
Yes - that was the one my eye immediately went to as well! But if the first one had a gold sheen it would be lovely. The pink one was so fresh it would be wonderful in a tea parlour. And when Caleb/Callum (sorry! I can't find your name written anywhere) said bedroom for the blue/green I could see the most peaceful bedroom all in those colours! ✨💛✨
Those tiles are stunning & you’re enthusiasm and appreciation are refreshing.
The historical wallpapers are fantastic.
And deadly

The maids rooms had a sink in them ; usually. We live in a 1885 Victorian, and during our Reno of the maids room, found the ghost image of where the sink was as well as found the holes where the plumbing ran from the bedroom to the basement. Peeling back the pages of these old structures is so neat. Just FYI it took us 12 years to do our Reno. We did work in between having kids and saving money to do what needed to be done. Word to the wise, don’t go into massive debt doing your Reno. You will be glad when it’s completed and you have no debt in the house. Good luck, enjoy watching your progress.
I don't know how I got here, but it definitely stays. Greetings from Poland.....🙂😀
Same here and I’m much closer than you!😂 I live in Texas. I love anything old. I realize in Poland this house would be considered “new or modern.” There’s so much older history in your country and area of the world. 😊🤗❤️
@@psleep4255 I agree, but the Victorian era is my favorite era and that's why I'm so interested in houses from that time. Unfortunately, this type of architecture is unique in Poland.
@@justynajarmoluk6979 that’s so interesting. I had no idea. You learn something new even during COVID. 😊
Victorian houses are so fascinating! We don't have them here, so seeing Victorian houses is always something special to me! Greetings from Germany! 🥳🇩🇪
Greetings from Switzerland too 🇨🇭
Please write the story of this house restoration for generations to come. In a few generations they won’t believe the story about how the tiles were pulled up and then returned to their original place. As a genealogy hobbyist these stories are so very much appreciated to understand history.
The tiles are gorgeous!!! So glad they found their way home.
I just have to say. Watching you work, sped up. Wish my 1916 farmhouse redo went that quick! Lol! We have been working on ours, in real time for 28 years. Good luck on all the work you have ahead of you. I was 33 when we bought ours. Now I'm 61 and still plugging away on it with my hubby. We are finally working on the mudroom. Which will be mainly used for my canning storage. Added a big shelved closet. And a walk in pantry. Also has built in cabinets like our kitchen. Will be so great to have it all done. Have the new windows in. Have bought 2- 24" old doors for the new closet cabinet. Also found a vintage door to the outside. Refinished them and got them painted new white. Using the old door knobs and back plates. Spray painted them hammered copper. And wainscoting beadboard around the room painted barn red. Going to use a country fabric up above on the walls. You use liquid fabric starch to adhere it to the walls. Works really good. Need to get in there and finish painting the cabinets. Look forward to seeing your progress.
Those tiles are amazing. Just remember to put all the roses facing the same way, even though I know it’s not finished it gave me anxiety seeing that one tile facing the other way
Me too 🤭
we know - we we're just so excited to see what we had (and what's missing).
Actually three😂
@@lauramitchell6725 isn't it amazing that they got the original tile 🎉🤸♀️ If it was me I probably would of done the same. I'm so thrilled for them 😁🎉
Came here to say this
Man, I can envision the maid stoking the fire of that fireplace, with those tiles gleaming in the firelight.....amazing!
It is gratifying beyond words to see someone so appreciative of the art and architecture of these wonderful old houses.
After 13 plus years of restoring a huge house i have ran out of steam and am simply maintaining what ive done to this point. Its nice to see someone like you with the same enthusiasm i use to have
Congratulations on your hard work to bring this house back to life.
You know many Victorian homes had sinks in the bedrooms. I really really love watching this beauty come back to life!
I’m an architecture student in my 2nd year and this project is just amazing!! So informative and the process is so interesting to watch!! Can’t wait to see how the project unfolds!!
Loving this series! We live in St. Louis in a historic home by Jefferson Barracks. These old houses are so beautiful and worth preserving. Thank you for caring!
Calendar cleared?................Check. Cushy chair ready?..............Check............. Popcorn ready?..............Check
I agree the middle wallpaper with the floral design is a fantastic choice if you decide to go that way.
It’s awesome that you finally included Kim in your videos. This house is truly a labor of love. A labor a love between you and your SO, between you both and the community, between your community and the past. 👍👍 thanks for sharing
I was so busy with work over the holidays I didn’t have any time to be at the house! I’ll be around every weekend now.
@@kimberlythompson719 it was nice to see you, maybe you can say "hi" next time :)
You received an incredible gift with those tiles. They are worth thousands and are called Art Tiles, possibly Zainesville or Low?You may find some antique ones on eBay so keep checking. Your house so wants to be loved and become beautiful once more. You are doing a fantastic job.
Those tiles are great gift. I hope more items find their way "home". Thank you for taking us all along on your journey with this beautiful house. A Q&A would be nice.
I can never understand how people rip these things out to begin with. But thank god they didn’t trash them.
These sets sell for $750 - 3700 on eBay. Understand now? Makes me nauseous too, BUT at least they are not being trashed. 😀
🚨Lead Paint Alert🚨 if you sandblast that radiator yourself, freindly reminder 🙂 enjoying the progress!!
It was a very common thing in late 1800 to early 1900 homes for a small sink to be in the bedrooms, especially if the house had only one bathroom. So it is totally normal for a maid's room to have a sink in it.
RUclips once recommended your channel and now I just can't stop watching.
I bet you that when everything is finished I'm gonna break down in tears seeing everything back to where it was on square 1.
Seeing those tiles instantly brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful, one of a kind find. It’s like the world reassuring you that the right person has the house. I trust that through your dedication to doing right by the house more pieces will come together like that:)
So nice to finally see Kim. (Kim, I waved back every time you waved!) The tiles - well, I'm speechless. So happy for you they were returned to the house.
Yeah. Definitely a monthly q & a. Best ‘new’ old house blog on you tube.
It makes me so happy that people are *finally* restoring these gorgeous mansions, ravaged by time.
That green wall paper would look fantastic with the green hearth tile.... Good work!
*WOW!!!* I'm so happy you were able to get those tiles back! They're definitely some of the finest I've seen. The story of how they came home is so astounding!
So lovely that you got those tiles back. People are better than we give them credit for these days.
Hello fellow St. Louisan! I just found your channel (like many others recently have) and I was going to comment that you should reach out to the Campbell House Museum. I'm so glad they have already been in touch and helping you! They are my favorite museum in the city. Can't wait to watch you breathe life back into this gorgeous home. Good luck!
They have been so excited to help me over there. showing me how the HVAC is ran how to hide vents and switches. plus the wallpaper samples. Andy Hahn is the man!
Very cool!
Green is an "in" color on all the reno/decorating shows right now.
Those tiles are just gorgeous. They were meant to come back to the house.
Oh my goodness! Little miracles... those tiles are amazing ❤
Caleb and Kim: I admire you're efforts to restore the Brown Victorian home. I've remodeled a 1937 brick bungalow and found the deeper you go the more you find. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
It makes scene that you found a place for a sink. The maids quarters would've had its own so they wouldn't have to go down to the kitchen in the evening.
With that yellow faux tile on the wall I do think the kitchen theory might be true.
Wow Amelia nobody thought about a sink in the maid's quarters but yeah that makes perfect sense - they talk about the nursery being up there I think that little cubby hole feature is where they put a baby crib - but there's other suggestions for it too.
bringing America back by this restoration. all loves.
I just love hearing how much you TRULY appreciate these tiles. I’m so happy for you and the house! You deserve them if anyone does.
I am elated for you. So much of our architectural and cultural history has been lost by either demolition or renovation. Please note the distinction between renovation & " RESTORATION ".True " RESTORATION " is the bringing back a building, automobile, painting, etc. to it's original state. Renovation, on the other hand means simply to bring an item to a more efficient use
I applaud you in your love of this magnificent edifice and Herculaneum task in taking on such a project to bring back this grand old lady's original beauty ❤. I did, however, note one thing that I wanted to call to your attention. While locking over the layout of your fireplace tiles, I couldn't help but notice that some of your tiles, with the roses were turned the wrong way. I made the same mistake when installing some bathroom tiles in my parent's home years ago. A few of your rose tiles had the roses turned opposite the others. Please take care and good luck with your project.
for sure, the red flower wallpaper!!!
OOh I love the teal blue wall paper. It would make the house so bright.
Looking forward to all the news! Love this house.
Thank you for sharing the journey
I audibly gasped when u zoomed at the details of the dress. insane omg
Love the wallpaper with the red flowers
Maids rooms were often equipped with a small sink.
That soft pink wallpaper is going to fit green tiles of the fireplace, i'm sure 🤩
This tiles art a work of art.
Yes live q&a, and can you interview the guy who found the tiles! And maybe if you have time or have guest video about Campbell house for us foreigners who can’t make it to MO
a video of the Campbell House is coming very soon.
@@johnkennamann1462 I am looking forward to that...
@@nataliemesbah1639 he bought them on craigslist 8-10 years ago.
@@nataliemesbah1639 we paid him what he originally paid to acquire them
@@nataliemesbah1639 Yes, someone stole them (probably a gas company employee) and sold them on craigslist. the guy who bought them is a well known guy in the st louis restoration scene and asked lots of questions which is how he knew these were from this house. when he saw kalebs tour video he knew he had to reach out to us.
The mantle and tiles should never have been stolen in the first place. Very happy you got the tiles back, they're gorgeous.
I can’t believe he found those tiles! They’re absolutely stunning!
Fantastic that you got these missing tiles back where they should be. Reminded me when I bought a (much smaller!) Victorian house in the UK 20 years back, the fire place had been boarded over. I opened it up to reinstall a fire insert from a salvage yard, and right at the back of the chimney base were all the tiles from the original cast iron fire surround. Strange that someone years before removed the iron surround, but then carefully removed all the tiles (just one was broken) and left them behind. The fire place really is the focus of a room (not the TV!) so to get back such original features really brings character back to the room.
I’m so excited!
The fireplace tiles are STUNNING!
When you're doing what you should be doing, things fall into place. Doesn't mean it will all be easy but well worth it.
The tile story gave me chills! Love the wallpaper, the one with gold is my favorite, I want that one for myself.
This brought tears to my eyes!! I am watching all the ads, even the long arse 4-minute ones with folks not singing in English!!
I had goosebumps when i saw the tiles...it really is opulent... Nice Job !!!
Yes! A live Q and A would be so fun!
We’re doing the Q&A tomorrow Thursday the 28th at 8pm Central! Hope you can join us.
I briefly owned a restored 1885 home that remains my favorite home ever. It's so wonderful to see the joy you are restoring to that home. Can't thank you enough for sharing your journey. ❤
How blessed to have the tiles find their way home!!! The wall paper samples are stunning!!! My favorite is the blue with the gold. I'm going to be a faithful watcher for this reno. Oklahoma neighbor here. Congratulations!!!!
This will be great fun to watch! This house is so dreamy, enjoying the journey no matter how long it takes.
Yes for the Q&A!!! Wow beautiful tiles!!!!
Oh my gosh those tiles! Amazing! And so nice to finally see Kim. The work you guys are doing is incredible and I hope you get more tips on the missing mantles and tiles. I too liked the wallpaper you pointed too. Very reminiscent on William Morris.
Yes that would be Awesome the tiles are Stunning
I'm obsessed with this house! I can not wait to see what the rooms look like when you have completed them!
Those tiles are GORGEOUS! Thank you for sharing! 😃
What amazing luck with the tiles and you deserve it!
Those tiles !!! What an incredible blessing!! They are STUNNING!! Glad they made it back home.
I literally had a tears in my eyes when looking at those tiles they are stunning & that wallpaper is to die for 💕🇦🇺💕
That tile is gorgeous.
Breakthrough! I am crying actual tears of joy. The way those tiles found their way back to their original fireplace was the breakthrough moment for your house. I now know the entire project will turn out gorgeous. So happy for you and Kim.
This excitement, the ingenuity, the character and kindness of this man, is what Americans are supposed to be. Doing things for yourself, making your own way and being a great person. Love it! ❤️
That tile is insane. And more Kim, maybe formal introductions of your team? Would love the Q & A. I'm a huge history buff and it is a dream to do what you're doing, sadly I'll probably just have to settle for living vicariously through channels like yours as my wife has no interest in any of this. Also more Kim.
I will be in the videos more I’m just shy! We’ll be doing a live Q&A soon so I’ll be there for that.
I'm glad to see this house getting worked on. We need to see more historical sites like this being restored and resurrected back to life.
Wow that’s the power of the internet! Friends and having good karma! So happy for you!!
I can tell you are overwhelmed by the tiles...what a treasure that they found their way back to you...amazing! That detail should help you when you go to pick your wallpaper. Thanks for sharing...what a privilege to watch this.
I’ve been watching The Repair Shop on Netflix. I feel like someone in the US would know how to repair these tiles using traditional artisanal techniques.
I’ve seen antique tiles being restored in an English revolution so yes I agree with you that there must be someone in America that can restore these amazing tiles 💕🇦🇺💕

I love that show , one of my favorites on Netflix!😄
Can't wait to see plaster go back on the walls! Really glad this old house is getting some love
Amazing! They are gorgeous. And you’re right- they totally did find you.
I do really like that red rose print also. I always associate dark wallpaper in the victorian time.
I usually don't watch live chats to much going on so I just bounced around. But finding those gorgeous tiles WOW!
Working full time, renovating, videoing and sharing with us. You are ambitious. Wonderful that the tiles have returned to the house. Good things happen to people when their heart is in the right place with good intentions. I enjoyed the history you shared with us about the house, so a q and a would be great as well.
Yes to the Q & A! I want to know how you are feeling? Are you super happy or super overwhelmed. What you are doing is amazing but it is not easy.
I have pine in my 1912 bungalow, it sucks. Go with oak much harder and and scratch resistant if ur replacing parts of that floor. Its harder to match the color but worth it. Also you won’t get splinter in ur feet if you like to walk around ur house barefoot.
Love watching the progress. Hello to Kim. I can be available every other weekend and would love to help. I can clean and tear out. I'm a couple of hours south of you. Looking forward to seeing the yard too. Love what you two are doing.
I don't mean this in a "cheap and nasty" way... Guys take All the help you can get! The pair of you work like a well oiled machine... But and extra pair of (willing) hands goes a long way! 💞
I'm across the river and can also be available to help sometimes, my husband would probably be up for it too :)
The music is GREAT! I've tried to look it up via the link but the options are endless. Yes a Q&A session would be nice. So MUCH enjoying these updates. Thank you!
