    ℹ️ About the Episode
There are times when being disconnected from the world is a good thing. RV travel offers that kind of respite. It also offers the ability to explore, connect with family, and travel for weeks, months, or even years. For almost all RV travelers these days, the internet is something that has to be figured out. For those that work from the road, it's essential. We've had our fair share of all-day visits to coffee shops and uploading videos from hotel lobbies. In Holmes, AK, we sat at the public library for hours and hours. When they closed, we moved to our truck (just outside the library) hoping the internet would stay on. In New Zealand, one cafe didn't like us camping at a table even though we were buying food and drinks each hour. Suddenly and mysteriously, the internet stopped working.
In short, it's been a problem. We're not usually early adopters of new technology. We tend to get it early, but not first. Hence the shape of our dish (or Dishy, as it was named by Elon) is rectangular, not round like the first edition. Still, we were eager to get Starlink to see if it would make producing videos from the road any easier. Overall, we're thrilled with Starlink and think it's worth every penny of the $135/mo subscription ... as long as we keep our cellular plan. In this episode, we share our first impressions, the pros and cons of Starlink, and who we think it's best for.

      Stwrlink provides a needed service.
The space junk from ALL providers is horrible.

Thanks so much for all the solid, useful information in this episode.
Starlink is a complete game changer for off-gridders.
Imagine being on a sailboat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and having 150mb of service.
Your rational of using multiple plans is spot-on, also.
In our world today, connectivity is the key.
We love seeing Caleb. His youthful, creative energy adds so much to each episode.
Also, Charlie. His sweet, playful nature is a joy to see.

Great jobs on explaining how the system works. I have been using the system for 3 months now and I have had the same experience. Works great but really is a supplement to other services for now. My expectation is that this will change as they put more satellites up. Keep up the great work. We love watching your videos.

I've had my RV version for about 2 weeks. I work camp in cell, wifi , cable blackout zone. We had storms that knocked out power and phone lines at the campground for almost 4 days. Starlink ran off my bluetti a d genny and gave me and others connections to phone and internet. After 8 seasons with 4g iff you hang a phone in the window and maybe get a signal... its a game charger. I LOVE it so far... and have t-mobile on my phone too.

Thanks for the Starlink review and the other services available for internet. My Silverado 2500HD LT has an AT&T WiFi hot spot built in and we can connect up to 8 devices. We have an unlimited service plan for about $39.95/month. It works very well in all of the areas we have been in (like the mountains between Taos and Cimarron NM) and has reasonably good speeds.

We have been using Starlink on our 20 acre rv land in south central Wisconsin since March. It has been working well for the most part. We now are using a 2nd Starlink for our business that is located close to our rv land we fulltime on March- early Nov in our Luxe 5th wheel. Both locations we have no access to high speed internet. We actually were quoted 26k to get connected to high speed through the local cable company to run 1000ft of wire. We upgraded to the mobile feature, but we have not had the opportunity to try it yet.

Happy Father's Day Marc. The Elkhorn Antique and flea market is the 26th, Trish would have fun. It is at the County fairgrounds. Also watch out for the Beast of Bray Road in Elkhorn area. lol. I hope you have time to enjoy some of Wisconsin while you are there. If you head west it is a nice scenic drive to take Highway 14 between Madison and LaCrosse, it was missed in the last glacier event and has bluffs and valleys and a nice road. Be safe.

Reminds me of when I was in intelligence for the Air Force 25 years ago I had an INMARSAT system. I had to regularly build the satellite array and use a compass and a laptop for signal strength. Then make a phone call to test the line, log in to a specific website, then send a secure email. Took all day. Technically has come a long way.

Great video and very informative. I agree a big downside to Starlink is the tree situation. But the 110 power supply it needs is an issue as well. We rarely have hookups when we camp and we don't have an inverter for our rig. I looked into it for our home, but even though we cant get cable in our location, Starlink is not available yet. We are about 3 miles directly west of Cave Creek Regional Park which I know you are familiar with. Keep the great content coming I look forward to your videos every week

Always do a reboot from within the Starlink App on the wifi and the router once a day. That will dramatically help with speeds... Also put the dish into stow mode and then hit un stow once a day and that will also force to dish to find a more preferred satellite which helps the speeds big time. I am in a waitlist area with the RV vesion and my speeds are always up near 70-100Mb download. Get 2-3 mesh units as well.... Huge difference !! AWESOME!!!

$60 for AT&T and only 100GB? I think you might be getting ripped off. Our rig (Keystone) was equipped with the Winegard Air360. I purchased the router from Amazon and the router, like yours, allows for a SIM card to be added. Rather than add a "hotspot," I added an unlimited data line to our plan for $15/month (think of another phone line, without the phone). We've been able to take video calls and have had great connectivity for work and also for streaming Netflix, Disney+, etc. We have the same limitations (need to have a good cell signal) and I'm not particularly a fan of the Winegard unit, but it works very well for us and is $45 less per month!

I've got one of those flag polls at home. I suggest you drill holes through the couplers and put either a bold, or snap key into it. The poll tends to retract in the wind, and you don't want that to happen when you've got the dish on it.

The issue I've had with those pre-paid cellular services is that when we head out for the weekend to our land in the White Mountains, we get minimal cellular service from Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint/T-Mobile. As such our Internet service is spotty at best. I may look into seeing if it's possible to add an aftermarket antenna with higher gain to improve the signal. Alternatively, Starlink would work better for us since we have few trees and clear access to the sky. Thankfully, they started offering the Starlink RV service since even up near Snowflake/Show Low, regular Starlink service has limited availability till 2023.

As of yet I have not had a problem with my T mobile service as I travel but I am interested in star link.
When I travel I don't use or have the need for internet use much, I travel to get away from it all and have fun not spend time on the net.
Keep the rubber on the road and safe travels.

Thanks Marc. - Good point that you could replace your home internet with StarLink and use it for both home and mobile.

We got ours last week and it’s taken a week just for me to unbox it. I bought the 12g Husky container and the flagpole but now I’m waiting on the adapter to fit it to the pole. We started our full time adventure at the Famcamp at Luke AFB on May 21st. The last week there we experienced 3 days at 115 degrees! We left AZ on June 13th. We have now pulled into a Thousand Trails resort in Alabama. The humidity is real for sure! I have the dish set up on a picnic table for now but we can’t leave it there when we hit town for shopping and dinner. (Full Timer Problems).

I will say this- we have no Verizon cell reception on Lewis Smith Lake. The service from the Starlink setup is essentially a life saver for us!!!

T-Mobile Home Internet has been our favorite mobile solution. $50/mo for unlimited data, in some places in the 900Mb range for downloads. Coupled with a WeBoost RV, we end up getting conections in most places in the SE & Mid-West. Anywhere along the interstates, it does really well, but in CA, T-Mobie was no bueno. I am really looking forward to being able to order Starlink in the future!
