Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys - Play (Official Video)

‘Play’ is the first single from Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys record, ‘Teen Tapes (for performing your own stunts’, released on 22nd of April 2022.
The album is a follow up to their previous record ‘Transit Tapes (for women who move furniture around)’ - and the final in their series of tapes. The trilogy, which began with the introverted collection of lullabies, ‘Sleeping Tapes for Some Girls’, is an intimate roadmap back into feeling.
If Sleeping Tapes is closed eyes, Transit Tapes is slowly looking up, and Teen Tapes is meeting the gaze of another. There is a relinquishing of control, both in the sonic landscape and in the story.
The latest offering is an almost naive expression of feeling that revels in, and reckons with, the chaos, the danger, and the delicacy of being alive and in love.
The album was workshopped and recorded in Berlin with Liú Mottes, Andreas Miranda and Martin Perret.
The video was created by Cape Town based filmmaker, Willem van den Heever who has worked with Kruger on a number of videos for her previous band, Medicine Boy.
‘Teen Tapes (for performing your own stunts)’ is out through Unique Records and Schubert Music.

From the first time I heard Lucy Kruger with Medicine Boy on Balcony TV and then seeing you live here in South Africa I was pretty taken. Though the music is different the emotions, pull, and ultimate connection I feel to the music is in line with how Patti Smith speaks to me. It envokes such nostalgia, passion, desire, almost like a longing. This is great work from the whole team. I hope to see you playing in Europe soon.

I like the new song which shows kind of a full-circle return to early Lucy Kruger & the Lost Boys sound. This and its accompanying video have a raw, edgy but sensual quality (think NIИ "Closer") ... almost an animalistic eroticism exuding from the visuals presented. That vibe definitely grabs the listener and doesn't let go 'til its final scene. Kudos, Lucy!
