I used to watch the old Fight World Video Magazines that Jeff Osborne would put out on VHS. I can remember Perretti talking about how messed up his hands were and all about the new UFC gloves to protect the fighters' hands.
I was at the Pele/Miletich fight and remember hearing before the fight rumblings about Pat's back. You could tell too. I wish I'd met Perretti that night. Mo Smith was there, Sato, Ruas, Sakurai, Conan, and more...just in attendance!
@LytesOutClips yeah...as soon as he stopped paying people lol. I don't know who bankrolled those giant shows. WEF 8 had just as many big names in attendance. Chuck, Tito, all the others I listed...the Tapout guys. Oh forgot watching Babalu soccer kick Brad Kohler's head. What a wild card. Horn vs Big Nog. I used to tell Forrest that before he'd ever trained, Horn did 3 competitive rounds vs Big Nog (Forrest fought Horn like 3 years after he began training).
There was a brief period when the WEF was the best MMA promotion in the world. They had talent no other company could match. This was before the days of exclusive contracts and fighters could ply their trade wherever and there were far fewer impediments the great fights happening. Of course the show was losing money hand over fist and Levine was a crook who didn’t like to pay people but there will still some amazing fights.
Perretti hooked it up! Epic interview! Learn so much from this podcast while jaxxon just jokes around the entire time, this one is the real deal on mma history and lost information
@anthonyventi5471 the Carlson Newton one will be amazing. I would be interested on hearing his side of the matt hughes loss. I just watch him I believe extreme fighting 4 when fought I believe he was just a brown belt at the time.
Awesome interview with the Johns. Got a slight change in mind about John Peretti, i guess i got a little too quick judging his previous interview, without really knowing him. Despite being a little "sadistic" (His words lol), and a bit difficult to interview still, seems like a stand up guy, all out honest, no filter whatsoever, and most definitely a pionneer of the sport that deserves better recognition, i would love to see him debate other people haha It was also cool to that John Lewis still doing well. Looking forward to your next episode.
Here is the thing Up until recently Perretti was completely white washed from the history of the UFC He has done a few interviews recently with a couple of them being disasters - the person pretending to be a reporter had no idea who he was
In our first interview with him Listen to the opening that Joey prepared - we took all of the talking points that he wanted to address and agreed with them in it This took his foundations away so that we could get nerdy Truth be told this generally makes a guest angry… but we wanted to get beyond the surface level and deep dive - this may have been a main reason of initial agitation lol
I listen to podcasts on an Android so had to come over here to give you some flowers!! Quickly becoming one of my favourite podcasts. Mike, why didn’t you grill John on how good Rickson was?
I am not under the impression that Lewis would have had first hand knowledge of that… he is coming back on in a few months He is going to bring us through the sale of the UFC Also prior to the interview - Lewis called me and stated “I hate talking about mma… it’s a subject that I avoid; the only reason that I am doing this is for Perretti. That guy has never asked me for a single thing” 2 Perretti called/text me “You can be really aggressive with your questions (he is right), I would be careful with this one or you will lose him” If you look at the people that went out of their way to “hurt” Lewis with public statements, and the way Lewis handled it…. It’s pretty shocking Lewis is a legend whose piers were a bit jealous of; rather than go quote by quote, we addressed everything during the Carlson jr portion of the interview. That was 100% intentional in order to keep it positive (this was also a request of the two guests)
Big fan of John Peretti in Denver Chuck Gale at one fight under his belt shut up switch to opponents on several times until he was the main event fighting Patrick Smith. John Peretti was a ref even the announcer said why does John keep standing them up definitely favoring the hometown hometown champion. I have an old video I'll have to switch off of VHS my friend was self-trained from my school was beating Patrick Smith at the stand up check with take him down what was his game only to be stood up again. The elevation got to Chuck if it was a left it on the ground even for a little more time you would have had an amateur self-trained beat Patrick Smith.🎉🎉🎉
I'm pretty sure James pulver cuz he trained occasionally with us he went down with Chuck Gale to that fight. He fought on that car too and that might be how John Peretti Jen Pulver.
I remember they had hot like Penthouse or Playboy babes come out to the cage. And it was in some shady hockey rink on a First Nation Reserve on the outskirts of Montréal. Then most of them were arrested by the Canadian gestapo afterwards. Good old days 😆🤘
Legendary interview with a Legendary fighter. Those in the know knew who John Lewis was; he was truly a trailblazer in the early NHB days. Thanks, Lytes Out Podcast, for this invaluable interview.
54:11 Anyone knows what documentary Perretti's referring to here? I saw the Battlecade 2 docu (if you want to call it one) from Tommy Sowards once but that's the first time I hear that he apparently has 3 hours of footage. Google a bit but could not find any info about a new release coming up.
54:30 @John Perretti, is there is plans to release this documentary? Cheers, God why wasn't there a documentary team during EF 1 with Carlson and Sperry, Zinoviev, Vitor was there..... Wow what a legendary "NHB" time, also can someone please find the episodes of Perretti and his EF crew on the 90's talk shows? (Donahue, Sally Jesse R, Jerry Springer), I know there is a Jerry Springer episode floating around but not the entire show. Cheers ;)
