Court Jester is such an important role. Speaking truth to power, indicating when politicians are speaking utter rubbish - someone needs to do it. Otherwise they all exist in their own echo chamber.
'Speaking truth to power'...I see someone's been rolling naked in American guff.
Been in Canada for 16 years and don't feel like I've missed much, but Joe really stands out amongst the younger generation of comedians, it's a masterclass in politically aware comedy that's close to peerless.
Joe and James Acaster both hit that note for me
Was ok until 2010. After that, not so much.
Just finished listening to the whole thing.
Rich, this is one of your finest ever. My compliments to the chef!
I listened to this episode the other day when I was at university during a longer break. Luckily I was alone cause I laughed and cried with you both! My favourite episode yet
My _favourite_ right wing comedian ever ❤️
Do you feel thoroughly reassured? I know I feel thoroughly reassured! 🤣
@@KatieM786 he was right, Liz _smashed_ it! Unfortunately “it” turned out to be the British economy. But that’s a minor quibble!
Calling out people who use many words to say absolutely nothing. What a radical idea! Gotta Love Joe
Pleonasts.
How can you not love Joe? What a lovely bloke
Bit difficult when he’s threatening to shred 10 grand in the middle of the biggest cost of living crisis in living memory. Prat behavior. There’s better ways to get a message across

Just finished the whole episode, it's brilliant.
Was in the audience, it was brilliant
I sat behind Farage at the cricket and had these thoughts 🤣
This was a great episode. One of the best
my god he comes across as even more of my best mate than ever! love him
The world needs more Joe Lycett’s.
I came here to see an interview with Joe Lycett but they've got Hugo Boss on instead. Very disappointed. 🤣
he’s not called that anymore
He changed his name back less than a year later, I suspect for 2 reasons. 1: he'd made his point and didn't actually want to be known as Hugo Boss for the rest of his life and 2: he's a professional comedian and knows when a joke has got old and tired.
This was a really special episode of RHLSTP (RHLSTP!!!) Rich. I laughed and cried. And then. laughed a bit more. Joe is a bit of a hero.
He is brilliant. Bet he's a big Rishi fan now, I hear.
Come on, that's a bit cynical? Like Joe will just swing with any political wind? He's extremely right wing, which Rishi isn't, so I'm sure he's still team Liz! Unless he's chosen to support Nadine Dorries again of course...

I wish we had a Joe Lycett here in the USA.
The closest would be jordan Klepper I reckon, but I don't think most Americans would get that Joe was being sarcastic 😂
GB News are so desperate for guests to appear on their shows, they were left with just booking family and friends of GB News workers to appear on their shows. GB News offered thousands of pounds to celebrities/comedians to come on to a GB News show for just 15 minutes, that is how desperate they are. I bet Nigel Farage's team offered Joe around £10,000 to come on to his GB News show.
More and more comics are avoiding Netflix and putting their specials on their website. Prefer it.
The reason those journalists were so annoyed, was when someone just says the exact same mantra as them. It completely demolishes their argumentation, it just reveals how foolish it sounds. When it's coming from a satirical bent.
"wherever you get your podcasts from" yeah, that's youtube for me
well you're missing lots of great stuff.
Was at the show Monday he was great along with the other guests hope he gets to keep his 10k Sunday but I doubt it.
The thing is... He can always claim he never said it, that it was all fake news, that it's not legally binding even if he had said it, and you'll have to prise it out of his cold dead hands, assuming you can chase him down after he skips the country for a tax haven.
He is VERY right-wing, after all. 😂
like all us wokey folk do. Fine Closing Words, again, editing.
Loving the mouse-hover pointer on his website!
I remember when the interviewer was a bit part on the Jonathan ross show.
I love Joe but it's pretty easy to prove that Laura Kuenssberg is anti-socialist at the least. I can't think of many political presenters who are truly neutral, if that's even possible. On the other hand I can think of quite a few that are definitely closet Tories.
How would you define Huw Edwards politics? I always found Huw being rare at the BBC, he is in the category of Richard Baker, Kenneth Kendall etc, I do not know his politics.
Closet? Most of them are party members.
What is his (JL's) show?
He has his own show streaming on his own website called More More More. He of course also has his own Channel 4 show.
Joe Lycett, a man who likes to live on the edge... I mean just look at that pint glass at 1:50!
More clips please.
Her political leanings are so well-known that her image was used in Conservative adverts on Facebook.

so the whole videos are paywalled now?
You got it. But the audio podcasts are still free. Acast are paying for the videos, which are very expensive to produce, so you have to join acast plus to see the whole thing (some of them available to buy at gfsboxoffice.com)
@@Herring1967 very expensive to produce? as an editor myself, i think your editor might be ripping you off ^^
@@symmetrie_bruch So how much do you think we should be paying for three camera operators, sound guy, live streaming guy, editor, theatre fees, equipment, social media guy, guest fee, host fee etc. 52 eps a year (plus another40-50 zoom ones, but we only need to pay producer/social media/host for those). I doubt you can do it cheaper than we do, but it's coming in at £150,000+ a year. If you have that kind of money lying around then let us know and we can start putting them out for free again. Respect your professional opinion on this,.
I don't think it's too much to ask people to pay 60p a video if they want to watch it. Otherwise the audio is free and actually brings us revenue through ads (which has not proved practical on youtube - so every view is also costing us potential ad revenue). But we're still giving 10 minutes free for those who can't afford to pay.
@@Herring1967 my point wasn´t that you´re greedy or anything of the sort, rather the opposite. i worked with people with a third of your average views and they were already getting all the usual yt sponsors, so i´m reasonably certain you rejected/ignored all of those. so instead of taking the 20k for raid shadow legends , you went with maximum whimsey for probably almost nothing, and the videos were all the better for it.
but anyway you´re paying 5 people for basically doing veeery little there? you have 3 static cameras you set them up and press record, they operate themselves. and from what i can see don´t look like arris or reds either, but rather like normal consumer slrs. put a battery expander on there and a large card and you´re good to go for 3 hours+
yours is highly controlled environment, which is every lazy editors dream. you know what usually takes the most time is making all that footage from all kinds of cameras look the same. but that´s because you´re usually dealing with constantly changing environments and lighting conditions and hundreds of sources. all of which isn´t needed in your case, you can simply set up a preset once and that´s it, after that you only have a conversation. just cut to the one whos speaking and sprinkle in a a few wide shots, according to taste. also you don´t have to deal with giant 8k+ masters with insane bitrates, where you have to work with proxies and later reinsert the masters, you can just use a flat log profile straight out of camera and slap ypur preset on there, which means you could do that on a midtier modern gaming pc. same with the audio, you don´t have to compensate for constantly changing accoustic conditions, they´re the same every time. every modern editing package syncs these up automatically and like i said levels aren´t a problem here either since you only need to set those once.
you pay someone for social media? what exactly does he/she do for the money? you´re not an international business where you do market analysis and work on ad campaigns. we´re talking about the occasional post here and there.
equpiment cost is neglible as well since these are one time purchases. you could easily get away with good vlogging cameras there due to the already mentioned controlled environment. those could go as low as 1.5 k a pop including good glass and extra batteries and cards.
so no i´m not saying 60p per episode is too much to ask, just that the major costs should be for the venue, if it isn´t, somebody is ripping you off along the way.
LK is a magatory.
You should see where her sister works.
Is the theme tune an accidental homage to Kylie Minouges step back in time?

What does "was sat" mean? Does it mean something different from 'sat' or 'sitting'?
he means "I was sitting there".
Are you not used to people speaking in vernacular?
@@londonoverground Then why didn't he say that?
@@3506Dodge because it's a common grammatical error that English speakers make. we make lots of mistakes. I wouldn't have noticed it if you didn't spot it. You can say I was sitting there, or you can say I was sat there but you can't say I was sit there.

@@TCt83067695 it's not *necessarily* a grammatical error? That statement could still be true after you're buried.
@@spinozatheobvious626 but surely it would be "worked out" not "works out"
Unless we're dealing with a vampire situation but I don't think Lycette is the type to just _become_ a vampire.
You get me?
I get you, but I don't agree. All of this is within the context of "from certain angles it looks like", so anything that comes after doesn't have to be true or even possible, but just to *appear* to be the case. After all, if I'd say "from certain angles, it looks like he's alive" about a corpse, that's a completely ordinary sentence. So I think that it's theoretically also possible to look at a corpse and to think that from certain angles it looks like a living person that works out.
Of course we all know what party kuensberk supports
Just for a point of fact, Laura is terribly right wing. Surprised Joe didn’t know that.
I can't find any reliable information about her political views online.
All I could find was multiple stories about the harassment and threats she receives because people don't think she's impartial enough. 😔
@Black Coffee Now i mean, "fact" is a missused term these days, so let's be more accurate; it's VERY clear that she is right-wing. Not far right, probably doesn't support the current shite show that is the tory govt (would be less surprised if she's maybe a fan of sunak.) But right wing.
If you want some actual "facts," her father is a mega wealthy tory donor and british unionist.
Can we name any BBC/ITV journalists who aren't, at this point?
@Black Coffee Now "facts" were talked about, and I provided some.
Sure, sometimes people don't follow, and aren't influenced by, their parents. It's also true that VERY often (especially in things like politics/media) they do...
@Black Coffee Now bro, 5 days later?? That's SAD 🤣
If you think the politics that she was brought up in is "irrelevant," you're just being deliberately obtuse. Whatever, I don't really give a shit what you think 🙂👍
I know this isn't Richard's fault but it makes me so mad that the full video is behind a pay wall. Just so annoyed at that.
Oh, well I guess I will just go back to listening to it.
Ian Hislop said the public need to get used to paying for content. The era of free stuff is ending

Clap.
not sure of laura keunssbergs politics joe? you dissapoint me..
Yes, if he doesn’t know that she’s as right wing as they come it kinda undermines the point of bit. The “I’m incredibly right wing” sarcasm works best if he knows exactly who he’s dealing with. It takes it beyond a jape and makes it more pointed. Saying “Laura K seems lovely” is just saying the sarcastic bit straight-faced. I thought he was extending the joke and then it’s like “Oh, he’s serious.” Oh well, there are worse flaws than being too nice to horrible people.
@@Sam-zj6mw have you heard her on Brexitcast? She is giggly. Usually punching down.

Wait. What? Joe is right-wing, or was he sarcastically right-wing for a moment? Without context, this clip gives me willies.

Everyone knows that Lycett is a Lefty fairy.
@@lewis72 Fairies are fictional characters from stories for children. As such, fairies are neither lefty or righty. Assholes, however, are almost always name-callers and conservatives.

The willies is sexist....joe would never say anything like that.
Soooo....I can't see these anymore without paying? Damn. Sorry. I loved these. I'll miss them. Being a financially embarrassed fan is a sad state of affairs. Farewell.
The audio versions are on Spotify.
No, but you can listen to them for free. And watch hundreds of them for free. It costs a lot of money to make these videos so I don’t think 8 videos a month (plus extras and other benefits) for £5 is asking a lot. Appreciate that everyone can’t pay so that’s why the podcast is free and why we’re now putting up a chunk of video for free too.
@@gingerhermit Too bad I'm not. There are only so many hours in a day. I'm old, and my computer literacy is never going to be really fluent, and I am unlikely to follow anyone to different platforms without being spoon-fed how to access and use those platforms, I've not been on Spotify for years and I've forgotten how to use it. I left it for reasons. Leaving youtube is bound to leave some of us behind, I'll miss Richard's RHLSTP, but he will pick up enough new fans that he's not going to miss me, and something will take his place for me, too. I get that the podcasts leave youtube because they can make more money elsewhere and I can't blame them a bit for that. I still miss them and wish it didn't have to be that way.
😞
@@Herring1967 Richard, don't get me wrong, I totally understand the decision. At the same time, more and more shows and people on youtube have these individual subscription services for 5 quid a month, then there's Patreon, where I also support a couple of people, some of whom I haven't followed for more than a year, because I forget to cancel these subscriptions after a while. It gets to a point where I really don't want to subscribe to any individual "content creator" anymore, because it's just too cumbersome to keep track of all the subscriptions I'm paying for each month, and I end up wasting loads of money on stuff I don't watch/listen/use anymore.
I really feel some of the good independent content creators should team up and set up their own creator-owned streaming services that offer a variety of content in a genre, for instance comedy, or electronic music, or animation, for a combined monthly fee. If there's a good selection there, I'd be more than willing to pay 15 or possibly even 20 quid a month for that, because I'd just cancel the Netflix if there was a better service offering videos and shows I have more affinity with, and it's really not that I don't want to pay for good stuff, especially if I know the money goes to the people who make the stuff I enjoy, and not some big corporation. But I really can't justify following ten, fifteen comedians who decide to charge 5 euros a month each. I see the reasons behind it, but it's impractical and unmanageable for a fuzzbrain like me.
@@gladtobeangry That's all fine. Payment is optional. Just explaining why we can't keep giving something that costs us loads of money (as well as lost revenue from people not listening to the podcast - youtube ads don't bring in any money and just get in the way). But we did give it away for years and the audio podcasts remain free (and you can help us raise funds to make more just be listening). I am sad to take away the free vids, so hope you will enjoy your free clips each week instead. And hopefully give us a listen on audio (and tell your friends about the podcast). All the best, love and peace!
