The early half-hour black&white episodes were the very best of what was the greatest TV Western series of them all.

Chester and Doc have a Bones and Spock relationship. I'm just noticing that.

I've always said that Star Trek, with its characters, was a play off from Gunsmoke.

Doc Adams is my all-time favorite TV character. In Dodge City he was to medicine what Matt was to law.

I liked the Doc and Festus scenes alright, but the scenes with Doc and Chester are just classic.

This episode is entitled "Half-Straight" and is from Season 8. Doc is right to ask Chester to make coffee for him. Coffee is good for you & it's not addicitve. I've been drinking coffee 8 times a day for the past 15 years and never found it addicitve.

Chester was MILES a head of Festus as a character and and actor, I always thought Festus was tantamount too a Looney Tunes character put together by Mel Blanc! Way over the top and silly. The half hour Gunsmoke's were light-years ahead of the hour debacles.

Ken Curtis sang with the Son's of the Pioneers along with frequent guest Shug Fisher so he had a whole lot of experience under his singing gun belt.

Chester provides a cautionary tale with regard to the (hopefully) soon-coming COVID-19 vaccine. You see, Chester was an early volunteer in the Viagra clinical trials held back in 1871. Oh, the drug worked, as they'd all hoped for, but it left Chester in a permanent state of arousal. This explains the stiff right leg (Chester had to tie that big hog to his leg so as not to scare the women and horses) and the corresponding reduced blood flow to the brain.

8 years late, but Doc only pestered two of them: Chester and Festus. He didn't bicker with Quint, Thad, and Newly as far as I know.
