I love this idea. Imagine a sci-fi series where they are living on a frozen world and realize there was a civilization long extinct down there? No wood? Lots of shells and corals. Can't melt metal? Pistol shrimp can. I could see cities built on larger more active vents to heat the cities, which would eventually be domed (corals or shells held together) to trap the energy. They could even dig far enough down to get higher temps.
"Sub-brown dwarves. They're a sort of failed star." Brown dwarves are failed stars. Does that make Sub-Brown Dwaves failed failed stars? They not only failed at being a star, they failed at failing becoming a star.
I'd love to see a video exploring the steps an aquatic species would have to go through to conquer space. Spaceships full of water? Flooding planets when terraforming them? Sounds cool!

The first time I learned about All Tomorrows and saw the tool breeders, this video was the first thing to come to mind. They couldn't make fire, so the tool breeders worked around that and made everything purely from organic life, advancing their technology in that realm. I'm no scientist, so I wonder how realistic this is. Given enough time, maybe?
I've never seen All Tomorrows, so I can't really say to your exact question. But I had a similar thought about this video: the belief that fire & metal are necessary steps towards a higher society is _extremely_ Earth-centric. It'd be like believing that all lifeforms _must_ be carbon-based until you first meet nitrogen-based bacteria. We haven't even figured out how our own proteins fold yet. We hold absolutely no unimpeachable ground when it comes to determining what is possible and what is not in these regards. We've found _a_ path forward, but not necessarily the only one. We just cannot imagine what other paths exist yet. It's really a P vs NP style problem. It's very easy to verify a hypothesis about life's trajectory towards intelligence and domination, but nearly impossible to create a successful one from scratch.
@@far2ez539 You make good points, but a pretty much inescapable argument is that without fire and the control over it, the manufacturing of more complex tools (let alone what one would call actual technology) is pretty much impossible. Sure, it’s not absolutely necessary to social development in a civilisation, but without fire there is only so far a civilisation can go technologically. In particularly, there would probably be zero chance of getting through that ice cap

I've watched this video many many times and I just noticed that at 5:55, as the alien is stabbing the other alien, there's a caption that says "shh... no tears"
That may actually be "The great filter". Imagine life being plentiful, just rarely on the surface of a planet... Any possible civilization under an ice shield will never reach the bronze age, because duh.
Octopi are a good example I feel. Highly intelligent. But independent. The planet would need different resources in the water than we have for a civilization to develop in oceans. Maybe requiring evolutionary development like telepathy or something ridiculous.

This year we found out bacteria in the shape of cables that literally eat and transport electrons so there was an electrical current at the bottom of the ocean. That ends up heating the water around it. If life wants too - it will find a way
It's kind of fascinating that while we're sitting at homes watching youtube videos, somewhere out there on an icy planet, some creatures could live their lives under the ice, completely diffrent from creatures we know.
6:07 wroonggg, i watched a documentary of a sea sponge, a starfish, and a squid discovered that fire under water is clearly possible. Edit: as to whether i'm joking or not i would rather leave it to your "I M A G I N A T I O N" *makes rainbow with hands and sparkling eyes*
Kurzgesagt: If we find aliens, we're done for, it's called the great filter. Also Kurzgesagt: Making life on a -200 degree rouge planet it actually quite simple.
I mean, they explicitly said that rogue planet life would have basically zero chance of ever developing technology or escaping their home ocean. So they don't even get to the point where we are now.
NO, we aren't done yet. The great filter cannot lay at the genesis of life, simply because "simple life" emerged on Earth soon after it cooled down at the formation of the Solar System. Which in turn means that "simple life" occurs almost everywhere as long as the conditions permit that. And there is no reason to think these conditions are extremely rare on a galactic scale. Intelligent life however is a whole different story. Among the roughly 100 million species that existed on this planet, only ONE has sufficient intelligence to think abstractly. Let that sink in! There is no single universal great filter, it's a strain of tough filters, and we apparently passed most of them.
@@carlosandleon First, there is no "solid" evidence that the painting you are referring to are actually for Neanderthals. And even if they were, those dump creatures weren't capable of forming complex tribal communities such as humans. And their life was much simpler than ours. Second, even if we assumed that these creatures are somehow intelligent, we are closely related in terms of life diversity. We all come from the same ancestral line that is not too distant in the past compared to other animals. Third, even if you assumed these are separate species that should be counted alone, you would still end up with a huge gap compared to other animals. Again more than 100 million species existed on this planet, 4 or 5 species are literally nothing.
@@abdullahalrasheed394 You are right but the primitive red smears on the cave wall in Italy has been confirmed to be of neanderthal origin. Also Neanderthal and pre cognitive revolution homo Sapiens were comparable in intelligence with the Neanderthals even having an edge since they had bigger cranial capacity. It was sheer luck that the genetic mutation for advanced intelligence and communication has appeared in out species instead of theirs approximately 50 000 years ago. But well even if the Neanderthals did have the cognitive revolution themselves, their lack of proper voice boxes may have hindered development
6:16 This concept has been very well explored in the book ‘The Wandering Earth - Mountain’. It tells of a mechanical life form that was powered by the radioactive activity of the centre of a planet. imagine if those species were as intelligent as humans and had some sort of language, then the ice barrier gets a hole in it and they see the topside reaction would probably be: "yo wtf"
Perhaps they are acting like humans in there early ages an are going to develop a religion out of it, with the concept of an freezing hell above them and an warm (liquid metal) ocean as a kind of heaven below
That made no sense. What? Humans wouldn't know how to cut through that much ice. In some cases, these planets would have kilometers of ice between the surface and the water. And why would they need to be as intelligent as humans to have a language? Am I missing a joke here? Lol
@Little Girl AI What was said was that _humans_ would go and break through the ice after becoming a Type3+ species, freeing these aliens from their prisons. It would never happen, of course, but it isn't quite as impossible as your interpretation.

No wood? Lots of shells and corals. Can't melt metal? Pistol shrimp can. I could see cities built on larger more active vents to heat the cities, which would eventually be domed (corals or shells held together) to trap the energy. They could even dig far enough down to get higher temps.

How would they escape the ice and start an 80 million year alliance though?
@@far2ez539 You make good points, but a pretty much inescapable argument is that without fire and the control over it, the manufacturing of more complex tools (let alone what one would call actual technology) is pretty much impossible. Sure, it’s not absolutely necessary to social development in a civilisation, but without fire there is only so far a civilisation can go technologically. In particularly, there would probably be zero chance of getting through that ice cap

I wonder what our great filter will be. We could be similar bacterias for other species too...
Octopi are a good example I feel. Highly intelligent. But independent. The planet would need different resources in the water than we have for a civilization to develop in oceans. Maybe requiring evolutionary development like telepathy or something ridiculous.

Also Kurzgesagt: Making life on a -200 degree rouge planet it actually quite simple.
Me: If I know humanity We will find a way to consume the great filter
@@carlosandleon
First, there is no "solid" evidence that the painting you are referring to are actually for Neanderthals.
