my god your inside and have a lift, i'm so jealous, I'm 50 and still crawling around on the dirty driveway rebuilding my 79 Camaro, this is the next project on the list to be done
Well I’m a little older than you. 53. Crawling on the ground; Been there done that in my younger days. It is nice to have large garage and a hoist. When I built this house those two things were a necessity. Don’t mean to brag. What’s your ‘79 Camaro specs. And where you up to on it? Thanks for your comment, Rob.
@@RobsGarageDays just pulled it out of the garage last year, redid the brakes, new carb/intake, LT headers 3" exhaust all the way back, new TCI TH350 tranny, getting ready to do rear then front suspension
Great video and good detail. I just started fixing a 1980 Trans Am on Central Coast, NSW, long way to go to finish it. Wish I had your awesome garage setup.
Hi, thanks for commenting. I love this shape TA. Everyone wants a ‘77… yeah not me! Enjoy your ‘80 model. They are very good cars to drive. A lot of fun too. I do like my garage and my hoist. Thanks for noticing. Have a great day, Rob.
G’day, yeah you’re probably right! Though the TA stops OK the way it is. Maybe I can consider that for a future video. Thanks for the tip. Thanks for watching.
G'Day, I'm not sure where the sway bar came from? I've purchased parts from here in Oz and in the USA. Yeah this TA handles quite well for an old car. Thanks for watching. Rob.
Trans Ams were designed to sit a little more than an inch lower in the rear to give the appearance of acceleration even when sitting still. General motors did this purposely.
@@RobsGarageDays I know this because I'm in the middle of lowering the rear of my 79 Formula. I read this in an article by Bill Porter the designer of the second generation Firebird. From the factory they sat 8.7 inches in the front measured from the rocker panel behind the front wheel. And 7.6 inches in the rear just in front of the rear wheel. He claims they did this to give the car an appearance of moving even while sitting still. Kind of like it's being launched.
@@RobsGarageDays i love the trans am a very lovely automobile especially the concealed wipers frameless doors and the overall shape and the duck tail spoiler all in all one of last of the trans ams Pontiac made American cars in the late and early 70s are the best .....not like today ...... having the same issue on my 79 z , thank you for this
G’day, I hope the video helps. Thank you for watching.

Those leaf springs are great for towing a trailer LOL
Hi, I'd need a towbar for that. hahaha. Thanks for watching.
Gorgeous Trans Am!!
Thank you for you compliment.
Good job, like the detail in this video
G’day, thanks for watching. Enjoy repairing your Nova. I find it’s half the fun!
This would have been a good opportunity for a rear disc conversion.

Or chock the rear wheels with a piece of wood high enough to just fit under the rear tyres .....it works for me 😊
Hi, Thanks for watching and the comment.
Sometimes the dropdown bars on rear sway bar can be to short holding tension on leafs causing a sag
Thanks for the info. I’ll keep that in mind.
That’s either a WS6 sway bar .. if not definitely thicker ! That rear is sticking like glue !

Are the front coil springs new?
Hi, the front has QA1 adjustable coil overs. Thanks for watching, Rob.

G'Day Stephen, Thanks for the comment. You may just very well be right as/and they do look good with a slight squat in the rear.

@@stephenflowers8516 Thanks for the information. That’s quite interesting that it was done purposely and not just an attractive mistake.
I dont know what kind of rear shocks you have....but gas charged shocks will raise it up a bit
Hi Bud, Thanks for the comment. The TransAm has QA1 adjustable rebound shocks in the rear with QA1 Adjustable coil overs in the front.
Great video. Great work. What size tires are you running in the rear vs the front?
Hi Frank, Rear = 275 / 60 / 15. Front 225 / 60 / 16. I hope this helps.
My 76 Formula sits the same way.
They all do
Hi, Thanks for watching, the comment and the info'. All help is appreciated.
Is that left frame rail rusting out?
G'Day! You noticed. Yes it was. Was, being the operative word.
Thanks for watching. Thanks for commenting.
Good observation indeed another job to do on the trans am chassis rail .....
Is this in the USA or Australia hence the Aussie accent
@@Tiffany.1970G’day, thanks for watching and the comments mate.
I’m in Australia.

The exhaust rear splitters would look nice made out of stainless steel or aluminum.......
Hi, You're right. Thank you for watching.
Stock height springs keeps the rear from rubbing with those tires.I been through it
Thanks for your comment. You could be right? Though it seems to be fine now.
