Despite not being the tallest commander we’ve gotten in recent years this looks solid! The Armada figures are sweet recently, glad to get updates to those amazing incarnations! Can’t wait for when Armada Megs rolls up very soon, we need those two to throw down like they did way back then!
My inner child is so happy that this exists, I had the biggest grin on my face watching this! I love his alt-mode, and the fact that it actually rolls well is amazing with how most recent releases have been. Didn't know there wouldn't be waist articulation, but I'll excuse it thanks to the transformation. The super mode's hands are a bit weird, since I'd have preferred it not have those ports if they weren't going to be hideable, but that's a minor issue when this thing looks so good and poses so well! Love that they kept the transformation from the show, they always looked so cool in the Unicron Trilogy, and the entire transformation looks really hassle-free and fun. Definitely getting this guy! I hope we get Armada Red Alert, Demolisher and Cyclonus. If nothing else, I want the initial teams from the first episode of Armada.
It's really cool that you were "reproducing" some of the poses that Armada Optimus have when he's transforming into his super mode, show how accurate the figure is to its anime counterpart. Fun fact: Some of the things that you see in the Bay movies comes from armada, like optimus being a more regular nosed truck or he combining with Jetfire.
He may be lacking some articulation points in his small robot mode, but he's badass. He is also likely gonna be a foreshadowing for an Legacy Evolution Armada Universe Jetfire and an Legacy Evolution Overload.
There is a very high chance of an Overload being released, since the trailer released with this figure has a hitch for another trailer on the back and one of the leaked images showed super mode prime combined with the original Overload figure.

Seriously, the series needs to revisit how they handled Armada Starscream. He is Honorable, and loyal. He just happened to be on the wrong side. We need more interpretation of Starscream like that.
This just brings me back to my childhood. I grew up with the Unicron trilogy. When I saw this, I felt like I was 6 years old again. Can't wait to see what else Hasbro puts. I would love to see an updated armada tidal wave figure.
At a bear minimum, I want them to update armada Red alert, smokescreen, cyclonus, and demolisher. But if they give us the entire armada cast, my inner child will be doing backflips.

Transformers Armada was the first Transformers show for me since I was born in the 90s. I never got the toy of Optimus Prime from the Armada series. So, I'm really glad that Hasbro made a modern verison of him. I'm planing on getting him when it gets released in Sweden. I just hope they make an Armada version of Jetfire so that they could combine.
Armada getting some love makes me so happy. As someone who grew up with Beast Wars/Unicron Trilogy, I’m getting all the figs that come out. I hope for a modern Tidal Wave down the line!
8:52 - Since Legacy Armada Prime has 2 mech tech ports on his rear skirt (becomes shoulder armor in Super Mode). Those are basically where his Mini-con Partner Sparkplug docked in. It's either a cool Easter Egg or maybe a possibility. Also the legs in Super Mode are finally get some articulation.
PvP - i was there for Armada. The joy of putting Optimus together with the other two. This new Optimus has me in heaven, i can't wait to pick it up. Articulation was an issue back then too on certain spots, that's why they released what the fandom called Bendy Prime. Have you had a chance to see that?
When I was a kid at 2000s, I always want to get Armada Optimus Prime with the trailer, but I was unable to get it. Now seeing this, I will definitely get this Armada Optimus Prime for nostalgia and also to fulfill my childhood desire that I unable to get.
Found my original Armada Optimus a little while ago and he was one of my favourites growing up, such a beast in super mode! Glad to see he's had such a glowup with Legacy (that gap on his back behind his head always used to both me on the original sculpt! 😂) Thanks for an in-depth review, definitely got me hyped for when he drops!
Love the new design, they definitely combined the leader and deluxe class designs into one nice commander class! The details blow me away, especially the Matrix of Leadership and the spark chamber behind the chest plate that the matrix clips onto! Very cool details and love that they also made his super mode very articulate! 👌👌👌👌

I am personally hoping one day we will see Armada Starscream replace his Decepticon insignias with Autobot insignias permanently! I am sure we will get Jetfire and Overload. They know how well Menasor sold and now they can release 3 combining commanders. Plus he literaly has combiner ports. Im defenietely looking forward to how they expand the Armada verse in legacy because this figure is amazing and just shows what they can do with it. Just hoping for some minicons too, even core class would work with some decent articulation. There is just no way they will make more armada figures without minicons
I remember my first experience with transformers was watching Energon as a toddler. And I would later get a toy of Energon Optimus Prime that I would play with for years. Which sadly mom threw away without me even telling me. So I've got a deep down wish for them to re release the Energon Optimus Prime again so I can relive my childhood
Parents that throw away their kids toys and belongings without ever asking or consulting them are absolute garbage human beings, and nothing will ever change my mind on that. Any parent that does this deserves the spite that is earned from it.
Good review and thanks for the size comparisons. This commander class looks amazing. I would love it if Hasbro would revisit the RID/ Car Robots version of Optimus Prime/ Fire Convoy and Ultra Magnus. Both characters should be at this same scale when they transform into their standard robot forms and when they combine to form Omega Prime. As for this figure, I would definitely count on getting Overload and Jetfire to join him as his Armada power-up partners.
I did grow up with the original show and did own the original figure (lost in storage for nearly 20 years). This one is SOOO much better. The original had no articulation in the super mode legs, and the regular mode was nearly as stiff. There are a few details lost in the trailer, and the base mode isn't very accurate to the original, but it's Much MUCH better overall.
I knew about the Overload connections, but did not know the chest emblem could come off to allow Jetfires chest armor. We are totally going to get both.
For sure I think we are getting overload. The engineering is all there! The priginal Overload is actually compatible with the new figure here, which got me to hunt down the old one for when I can get my hands on this. That said, I do think they will design the new Overload before Jetfire, since they will have to engineer the new Jetfire to be compatible with Overload. Very exciting things coming our way for sure!
@PrimeVsPrime I managed to snag one off of Amazon for $100 USD just recently. It was a Korean Sonokong release for it, and uses the Takara deco instead, but the listing said the seller is expecting more, so might be a good place to keep an eye for one.
As someone that grew up with Armada, and was overwhelmingly excited to both see the Prime prototype, and hear we were getting Armada figures, I won't lie that when we got Starscream and Hotshot I felt my heart sink when they all had such inexplicable quality issues and compromises to their robot mods. Like, Starscream is fiddly and his lower legs look completely wrong, and Hotshot's transformation was changed in ways that made no sense with them actually removing the vehicle kibble from his forearms that he had in the show just to slap it on the backs of his legs making them look AWFUL. I was feeling so scared this figure would suffer the same as the prior two.. I'm so, SO happy I was wrong. This figure, the more I've seen of it the more elated I've become. I can't even begin to explain my giddy glee from the prospect of getting this in my hands. I've wanted Armada Optimus, my childhood Optimus, to get a new toy for so long so Bendy Prime wasn't the best representation of that character we had to work with, and it's finally happened and so much better than I could have ever hoped. This has me so excited, I can't even keep myself from eagerly shaking in anticipation, and the fact he's held together PRIMARILY WITH SCREWS means upgrade kits have so much potential with him! I am buying this guy the moment the pre-order is available, and if we get the Powerlinx repaint, I'm buying that, as well. I had both as a kid, and I have every intention of having both of the new version, as well. This has me feeling so much more hopeful for Megatron, and I hope so badly we get figures like Sideways and Demolisher, as well as even just a small handfull of minicons like Sparkplug, Leader One, and the Minicon combiners for weapons and Perceptor.

This figure is a dream come to life! I'm legit moved by a toy from my childhood getting such a great update. At least the super mode hands aren't just hanging loose like the 2002 OG.
It's so accurate to the show! You can almost hear the voice of Garry Chalk coming out of it! _No sound_ Oh right, these figures don't have electronics.
I’m actually glad for the 5mm port being molded into the thumb of the hand with the fingers still opening. That retractable port in Jetfire’s hand is a very cool idea on paper. But in application it is SO ANNOYING. The port is so tight for the rifle and the retraction system is so loose that when you try to put the rifle in, it constantly wants to recess the port back into the hand. After you get it in the rifle is so heavy for the port that it swings side to side even when Jetfire’s hand is closed. And trying to get the rifle out of his hand is just as difficult as putting it in. This port being molded into the thumb is a better compromise.
I just received this figure. Holy crap...man. It really is awesome. I love it. Super mode looks incredible and is so poseable. I started watching Armada because of this figure as well as Megatron. Nice!
He does look cool, but there's no way I can justify spending so much on yet another OP when I still have the original Riverdance Prime with Space Pants and Overshirt right on my shelf, and so many other great offerings coming up from Legacy.
That isn’t the prototype that they showed in 2019. This is a complete new mold. They didn’t do the retractable ports because those things are hit or miss at best. I just got a Siege Jetfire and the things are very loose, so I’m glad they got rid of that. They don’t do the outward ratchets because every time they do it, they never detent them enough. Look up the old Combiner Wars Optimus Prime mold and MMC Rodimus to get a better understanding of it. It’s better that they do ratchets forward and back but friction to the sides.
The retractable peg holes in my Siege Jetfire worked fine. It's unfortunate to hear some were loose. Victory Saber had the retractable peg holes too but he didn't hide his peg holes nearly so well.
The Armada Optimus Prime was the first Transformers toys I bought as an adult because I was happy he was a truck again and I have no problem with Hasbro almost to recreating the original toy verbatim but without all the problems One thing about the improved over the original leader is his standard robot mode both in terms of quality and articulation it may not have quite the possibility of the bendy Prime but it's definitely better than the original leader toy. As for the super mode they fixed everything that was wrong with the toy and as an added bonus is going to be drastically cheaper than the naval Commander and close enough for laughs in terms of articulation
Such an excellent figure, probably going to be one of the only commander or titan figures I grab for MSRP. Wish you could've shown the compatibility with the original Armada Overload (as others have pictured), but you probably just didn't have the figure on-hand I imagine. Thankfully, given the design of how he links with the trailer, it will be very feasible for Hasbro to release a Jetfire which links with Armada Prime later. Also hoping for Sideways or a retro Armada reissue (like what's been done w/ BW & g1).
Fun fact, that circular chamber that looks like jaws on the panel behind the matrix is actually supposed to be his spark chamber, it's the exact same design they used in the beast wars cartoon when the Predacons found the corpses of the autobots and Megatron.
Honestly kind of disapointed with the base mode, that triple-layered tower assembly and multiple minicon-scale turrets were really special to me as a kid. That said, a posable super mode is the stuff dreams are made of.
When you see that iconic truck arrive on the battlefield no matter which prime it is and he starts transforming you know shit is about to go down and those decepticons won't stand a chance and that's what this figure does for me especially as a armada fan seeing prime transform I knew a battle was brewing now im excited for animated prime i grew up mostly watching animated so yeah hasbro better not let me down because im sooo getting that prowl

My dream has always been for Hasbro to release a Titan Class Tidal Wave but with a more realistic carrier ship mode. I kind of pictured the USS Flagg from GI Joe as his vehicle mode. I never liked the combined gimmick for Megatron but I loved the size he had in the (severely underrated)Transformers PS2 game in 2005.
As far as the possibility of a waist swivel in core mode, it's possible to accomplish it as shown by Naval Commander, but Hasbro did a good job with this.

Prime’s truck mode actually reminds me of his PS2 depiction. Maybe I have such strong memories of Armada growing up that I remember these tiny little details from both the game and the series.
I was in my Senior year of high school when Armada was on and I loved every second of it. I still have the original figure and can’t wait to grab this guy. My only issue is the yellow eyes in super mode but that’s nothing my reed Gundam paint marker can’t fix. Excellent review PvP.

I had the original Armada figure as a kid, and this thing is everything that I ever wanted out of the original. The legs for the Super Mode on the original had no articulation whatsoever. It was just this sort of static base that the trailer transformed into. The base robot mode had decent articulation for its time, but not nearly as much as this one. I’ll be honest, I geeked out watching this. 😄 I still remember that original figure, and seeing this new and so vastly improved one is just amazing. No question, I gotta pick this one up! 😄
I really like what they did with the super mode hands. While it looks a little awkward having a peg to hold stuff while still having an opening hand is brilliant. Usually you only get one or the other.
I grew with the armada game and rewatch the series and I'm hype that we are getting it back better than ever. Gurrented we will get nemesis prime and unicron battles
I hope we get a Nemesis Prime recolour even if he misses out on the trailer like the original deluxe. I loved the navy blue, brass and red colour scheme he had. I do wish they managed to include the sliding forearms of the old toy to cover the hands more.

This figure has gone beyond my expectations to what a modern Armada Optimus Prime figure can be, with an outstanding paint job, lots of articulated joints, and overall being a fantastic Transformers figure. :D I wonder what Combiner Wars Armada Megatron will look like standing next to this figure? Keep on being amazing.
Armada was my gateway drug to Transformers. Watched it when it first aired on Cartoon Network. It made me watch the G1 movie (which as much as I love it, set unreal expectations for G1 for me because goddamn that movie was brutal), which hyped me more when they first teased Unicron in Armada. This new Optimus has me hyped beyond belief, because the OG Super one and the "Bendy-Prime" were my favorite figures from back then.
I am sooo happy for this, the Unicron trilogy is what got me into collecting all those years ago. Sadly my OG Armada Prime is suffering from GPS so I can't wait to get this guy

The prototype looked a trillion times sexier..... But for a Super Mode with actual knees, I'll take it The trailer not being fully accurate makes sense I suppose. The engineering and materials alome that would habe to go into making that work out properly would be $$$, though I'd argue the audience interested in Armada Prime are old enough to want it all (I certainly am lol) Maybe on the 50th anniversary 😂

This prime is like my G1 prime you may have missed the Armada boat but you're still in it since the movies are still part of the envelope of the fandom
I'M SO EXCITED TO GET THIS!! I'm in the same boat of growing up with Bayverse but this legacy line has me really interested in learning about these older transformers. Plus it just looks AWESOME!!! One note about a potential Armada Jetfire and Overload, i feel like they would fit more as leader class then commander class. It would especially make sense since we've seen 2 Decepticons in leader class already and an Armada Megatron is on the way. The next two leaders could be Jetfire and Overload. Plus, as big as they are, they aren't big enough to merit the commander class size and price. They would certainly be more obtainable if it was 1 commander and 2 leaders rather then being 3 commanders. (For comparison, Menasor- $4×$25+$80=$180. Armada Prime (theoretically)- $55+$55+$80=$190)

Parents that throw away their kids toys and belongings without ever asking or consulting them are absolute garbage human beings, and nothing will ever change my mind on that. Any parent that does this deserves the spite that is earned from it.
Good review and thanks for the size comparisons. This commander class looks amazing. I would love it if Hasbro would revisit the RID/ Car Robots version of Optimus Prime/ Fire Convoy and Ultra Magnus. Both characters should be at this same scale when they transform into their standard robot forms and when they combine to form Omega Prime. As for this figure, I would definitely count on getting Overload and Jetfire to join him as his Armada power-up partners.
I did grow up with the original show and did own the original figure (lost in storage for nearly 20 years). This one is SOOO much better. The original had no articulation in the super mode legs, and the regular mode was nearly as stiff. There are a few details lost in the trailer, and the base mode isn't very accurate to the original, but it's Much MUCH better overall.
I knew about the Overload connections, but did not know the chest emblem could come off to allow Jetfires chest armor. We are totally going to get both.
...or maybe they just care about backwards compatibility? Like with the mini con ports?

For sure I think we are getting overload. The engineering is all there! The priginal Overload is actually compatible with the new figure here, which got me to hunt down the old one for when I can get my hands on this.
That said, I do think they will design the new Overload before Jetfire, since they will have to engineer the new Jetfire to be compatible with Overload. Very exciting things coming our way for sure!
I agree! It does seem like they’re teasing big time! I tried to track down an OG Overload for this review but couldn’t sadly find one :(
@PrimeVsPrime I managed to snag one off of Amazon for $100 USD just recently. It was a Korean Sonokong release for it, and uses the Takara deco instead, but the listing said the seller is expecting more, so might be a good place to keep an eye for one.

As someone that grew up with Armada, and was overwhelmingly excited to both see the Prime prototype, and hear we were getting Armada figures, I won't lie that when we got Starscream and Hotshot I felt my heart sink when they all had such inexplicable quality issues and compromises to their robot mods. Like, Starscream is fiddly and his lower legs look completely wrong, and Hotshot's transformation was changed in ways that made no sense with them actually removing the vehicle kibble from his forearms that he had in the show just to slap it on the backs of his legs making them look AWFUL. I was feeling so scared this figure would suffer the same as the prior two..
I'm so, SO happy I was wrong. This figure, the more I've seen of it the more elated I've become. I can't even begin to explain my giddy glee from the prospect of getting this in my hands. I've wanted Armada Optimus, my childhood Optimus, to get a new toy for so long so Bendy Prime wasn't the best representation of that character we had to work with, and it's finally happened and so much better than I could have ever hoped. This has me so excited, I can't even keep myself from eagerly shaking in anticipation, and the fact he's held together PRIMARILY WITH SCREWS means upgrade kits have so much potential with him!
I am buying this guy the moment the pre-order is available, and if we get the Powerlinx repaint, I'm buying that, as well. I had both as a kid, and I have every intention of having both of the new version, as well. This has me feeling so much more hopeful for Megatron, and I hope so badly we get figures like Sideways and Demolisher, as well as even just a small handfull of minicons like Sparkplug, Leader One, and the Minicon combiners for weapons and Perceptor.

This figure is a dream come to life! I'm legit moved by a toy from my childhood getting such a great update. At least the super mode hands aren't just hanging loose like the 2002 OG.

I’m actually glad for the 5mm port being molded into the thumb of the hand with the fingers still opening.
That retractable port in Jetfire’s hand is a very cool idea on paper. But in application it is SO ANNOYING.
The port is so tight for the rifle and the retraction system is so loose that when you try to put the rifle in, it constantly wants to recess the port back into the hand. After you get it in the rifle is so heavy for the port that it swings side to side even when Jetfire’s hand is closed. And trying to get the rifle out of his hand is just as difficult as putting it in.
This port being molded into the thumb is a better compromise.

He does look cool, but there's no way I can justify spending so much on yet another OP when I still have the original Riverdance Prime with Space Pants and Overshirt right on my shelf, and so many other great offerings coming up from Legacy.
That isn’t the prototype that they showed in 2019. This is a complete new mold.
They didn’t do the retractable ports because those things are hit or miss at best. I just got a Siege Jetfire and the things are very loose, so I’m glad they got rid of that.
They don’t do the outward ratchets because every time they do it, they never detent them enough. Look up the old Combiner Wars Optimus Prime mold and MMC Rodimus to get a better understanding of it. It’s better that they do ratchets forward and back but friction to the sides.

The retractable peg holes in my Siege Jetfire worked fine. It's unfortunate to hear some were loose. Victory Saber had the retractable peg holes too but he didn't hide his peg holes nearly so well.

The Armada Optimus Prime was the first Transformers toys I bought as an adult because I was happy he was a truck again and I have no problem with Hasbro almost to recreating the original toy verbatim but without all the problems
One thing about the improved over the original leader is his standard robot mode both in terms of quality and articulation it may not have quite the possibility of the bendy Prime but it's definitely better than the original leader toy.
As for the super mode they fixed everything that was wrong with the toy and as an added bonus is going to be drastically cheaper than the naval Commander and close enough for laughs in terms of articulation
The recessing port for the hand was probably scrapped due to budget restraints.

Such an excellent figure, probably going to be one of the only commander or titan figures I grab for MSRP. Wish you could've shown the compatibility with the original Armada Overload (as others have pictured), but you probably just didn't have the figure on-hand I imagine. Thankfully, given the design of how he links with the trailer, it will be very feasible for Hasbro to release a Jetfire which links with Armada Prime later. Also hoping for Sideways or a retro Armada reissue (like what's been done w/ BW & g1).
Fun fact, that circular chamber that looks like jaws on the panel behind the matrix is actually supposed to be his spark chamber, it's the exact same design they used in the beast wars cartoon when the Predacons found the corpses of the autobots and Megatron.
Honestly kind of disapointed with the base mode, that triple-layered tower assembly and multiple minicon-scale turrets were really special to me as a kid. That said, a posable super mode is the stuff dreams are made of.

When you see that iconic truck arrive on the battlefield no matter which prime it is and he starts transforming you know shit is about to go down and those decepticons won't stand a chance and that's what this figure does for me especially as a armada fan seeing prime transform I knew a battle was brewing now im excited for animated prime i grew up mostly watching animated so yeah hasbro better not let me down because im sooo getting that prowl

My dream has always been for Hasbro to release a Titan Class Tidal Wave but with a more realistic carrier ship mode. I kind of pictured the USS Flagg from GI Joe as his vehicle mode. I never liked the combined gimmick for Megatron but I loved the size he had in the (severely underrated)Transformers PS2 game in 2005.

As far as the possibility of a waist swivel in core mode, it's possible to accomplish it as shown by Naval Commander, but Hasbro did a good job with this.

Prime’s truck mode actually reminds me of his PS2 depiction. Maybe I have such strong memories of Armada growing up that I remember these tiny little details from both the game and the series.

I was in my Senior year of high school when Armada was on and I loved every second of it. I still have the original figure and can’t wait to grab this guy. My only issue is the yellow eyes in super mode but that’s nothing my reed Gundam paint marker can’t fix. Excellent review PvP.

I used to watch beast wars but Armada is what really got me into transformers. I remember getting hotshot for my birthday then optimus prime for Christmas. Unicron trilogy was my favourite transformers Era
This guy should be arriving at my door any day now. Super excited. If I can get a sturdy stand for him I'll probably display him part way through his super mode transformation like at the beginning of the video.

I had the original Armada figure as a kid, and this thing is everything that I ever wanted out of the original. The legs for the Super Mode on the original had no articulation whatsoever. It was just this sort of static base that the trailer transformed into. The base robot mode had decent articulation for its time, but not nearly as much as this one. I’ll be honest, I geeked out watching this. 😄 I still remember that original figure, and seeing this new and so vastly improved one is just amazing. No question, I gotta pick this one up! 😄
I really like what they did with the super mode hands. While it looks a little awkward having a peg to hold stuff while still having an opening hand is brilliant. Usually you only get one or the other.

I hope we get a Nemesis Prime recolour even if he misses out on the trailer like the original deluxe. I loved the navy blue, brass and red colour scheme he had. I do wish they managed to include the sliding forearms of the old toy to cover the hands more.

This figure has gone beyond my expectations to what a modern Armada Optimus Prime figure can be, with an outstanding paint job, lots of articulated joints, and overall being a fantastic Transformers figure. :D I wonder what Combiner Wars Armada Megatron will look like standing next to this figure? Keep on being amazing.

I had the original Armada prime when I was younger and I’d love to have this one to bring back those memories
Armada was my gateway drug to Transformers. Watched it when it first aired on Cartoon Network. It made me watch the G1 movie (which as much as I love it, set unreal expectations for G1 for me because goddamn that movie was brutal), which hyped me more when they first teased Unicron in Armada.
This new Optimus has me hyped beyond belief, because the OG Super one and the "Bendy-Prime" were my favorite figures from back then.
I am sooo happy for this, the Unicron trilogy is what got me into collecting all those years ago. Sadly my OG Armada Prime is suffering from GPS so I can't wait to get this guy

The trailer not being fully accurate makes sense I suppose. The engineering and materials alome that would habe to go into making that work out properly would be $$$, though I'd argue the audience interested in Armada Prime are old enough to want it all (I certainly am lol)

I'M SO EXCITED TO GET THIS!! I'm in the same boat of growing up with Bayverse but this legacy line has me really interested in learning about these older transformers. Plus it just looks AWESOME!!! One note about a potential Armada Jetfire and Overload, i feel like they would fit more as leader class then commander class. It would especially make sense since we've seen 2 Decepticons in leader class already and an Armada Megatron is on the way. The next two leaders could be Jetfire and Overload. Plus, as big as they are, they aren't big enough to merit the commander class size and price. They would certainly be more obtainable if it was 1 commander and 2 leaders rather then being 3 commanders. (For comparison, Menasor- $4×$25+$80=$180. Armada Prime (theoretically)- $55+$55+$80=$190)
I grew up with this show, probably my favorite cartoon Transformers series. The toys with amazing too.
