  • We are so excited to have reached 1000 subscribers! It is amazing how much support this community has given us over the past 5 months. We wanted to share our excitement with you.
We also wanted to walk through how we've evolved along the way. What lessons did we learn as we created more videos. The biggest lesson of course was to engage with you, because you helped us gain the right perspective as content creators.
    Our top lessons:
    1) Focus on content and story telling, pretty images aren't enough to gain an audience.
    2) Be willing to talk even if you are in the middle of a city with people around you.
    3) Be consistent when posting, we started uploading 2 videos a week and that definitely paid off.
    4) Spend some time learning the craft, good lights, equipment, editing, music can all pay off when creating content.
    5) Be yourself and be willing to open up. Connecting to the viewer makes everything more compelling whatever the subject of the video might be.
    5) Listen to the audience! You guys have great ideas about places to go and things to do, in our case it is your country so we like to use your knowledge as guides.
    6) Engage with the camera as much as possible. We used to shoot a lot of b-roll and talked in between to keep some kind of flow. Now we talk and show us experiencing things as much as possible and b-roll just helps us transition to the next time we talk.
    7) Include friends and other people to keep the videos fresh and interesting. We are lucky a ton of people have been willing to participate when possible, it has helped a lot with the story telling!
    8) Don't be afraid to take some chances and try something new. Sometimes it won't work, but when you post 2 videos a week, it is okay for a video to flop. It is a chance to experiment and learn, so try new things!
Thank you again for all of the support so far. We can't wait to see where this takes us!

I've watched a ton of your videos, and yes, I originally came here from Kelly's channel, which I've been following for a while.
I also REALLY enjoyed the biscuits and gravy video and I DO hope you'll make more "weird" American food for us to see and perhaps actually try out. It's so great to see the finished result - sure you can look up a recipe, but when you have no idea of how it's supposed to look, it's kinda tricky. That's where videos are a great help.
I guess a reason why so many of us Danes love your videos is that to us, it's interesting to get an outsider's perspective on things we all take for granted. And I guess there's a certain degree of vanity, too. We ARE the best country ;) and it's always great when someone from the rest of the world notices and appreciates it.
At the same time, we do have a habit of making fun of ourselves - so while we (of course) may not agree on whatever a foreigner finds odd or perhaps even bad about Denmark we can laugh at it, because ... hey, they are silly foreigners, what do they know ;)
Aaaanyway: Keep up the great work. I love your videos and I love your ways of ... well ... being!

Congrats guys! My first video was the Leaving America for Europe video. I knew instantly this would be a channel I wanted to sub to and watch the progress of, and I'm glad I subscribed. Miranda made a really good point that I think was the reason for why I enjoy your videos so much. I get to live vicariously through you guys. I am deadset on moving to Denmark, but I know this is a longterm plan of mine because there's still a lot of steps and obstacles for me to take before I feasibly can make that move. So while I am learning Danish on my own through self-study, it helps to be inspired by learning more about Denmark, which is hard when there's just so little content available for me on RUclips, let alone the internet in general. I have to use a vpn to watch TV in Danish because it's just not accessible outside of Denmark. I used to watch Kelly's channel, but I gotta say that your prior experience with editing and then relearning it is greatly helping because even though y'all still experiment to find your niche in the market, there's at least a good baseline standard for the quality of your videos. I like that.

    • @TravelinYoung
      @TravelinYoung  3 года назад

That is super nice of you to say. It is interesting because before visiting Kolding I of course looked to RUclips and found almost nothing about the place. When I arrived I was blown away by all it had to offer. I am hoping we can bring some awareness to the gems of Denmark that sit far outside of CPH to encourage people to learn and visit more. When we came as tourists in 2012 we visited only CPH, Malmo for a day to say we'd been to Sweden, and Helsingør to see Kronborg Slot. Now I only make plans to visit Fyn, Jutland, or an island.
I also really appreciate what you say about the quality. Some videos like the Christmas one or the Nyhavn one took quite a bit of time to shoot and edit. I try to put in some subtle tricks the enhance the story telling and to have a little fun. I also try to not let myself get discouraged if things aren't perfect. I can see incremental improvements in our style, audio and lighting quality, and general storytelling as we go along. I suspect when I look back at the first videos in a year I will find them a bit funny. But you have to just start creating and learn and I am so glad we took the leap!
Thanks again for watching, have a great weekend!

Won't be long before people begin to recognize you on the street and ask for selfies😄 I recently stumbled upon your channel and what I enjoy the most is that being able to follow your perspective helps broaden my perspective on my own country as well as the World. Not to mention that you seem like genuinely nice people who get a lot out of life. That's inspiring. So far you have been good company even though it's a very one way kind of being "social". I'm sitting in the big building made of red bricks on the other side of Klampenborgvej (when I'm not working from home which is currently the case). We live in Esrum which is a small town on the north side of the lake by the same name. If you want to explore this little corner of the country at some point in time you could easily spend a day or two visiting these very nearby sites:

Recently moved back to Lyngby-Taarbæk after 21 years and - funnily enough because I'm a Dane myself - I've learned more about this area and CPH from your videos than I have figured out on my own since we moved back here LOL. Looking forward to exploring the CPH and Lyngby area once summer comes and Covid-19 is under control (hopefully.) We've lived in Canada and in the US (our kids went to middle school and high school in the US) and I recognize your struggles as foreigners in a different country. It's always interesting to look at your country with foreigners' eyes - everything becomes a bit more clear that way. All depending on how long you decide to stay in Denmark, I'm guessing you'll get around to see more of Denmark?
My question is; jobs and school aside, is living life easier or more difficult here in Denmark, compared to the USA?
Are you more comfortable in you're own skin here or in the USA?
(asking bc I used to have the responsibility for the exchange students at my school, way back when...and they often said it was easier to be themselves, here.
That in the USA, there was greater pressures to be a certain way, dress a certain way, hair, make-up and here things are more laid back)
Happy that you are happy, bc the videos are fun! - love from Hundested 🌸

We will likely stay here for a long time and we do plan to explore and see as much as possible, though we will likely always live near CPH.
I think life is easier because we've had less stress, we talk about this some in our happiness video. But that is more of a broad statement about life in general, we are happier here at the moment.
I can only speak for myself as an adult (Joshua here), but I never had problems being myself in the US. I could always find friends and people who were similar to me. So in my experience that is no different between here and there. I suspect it is different for kids, but also kids who are here as immigrants versus kids who are native Danish. I can't say for sure cause I don't have first hand knowledge, but I do know Maya had a hard time feeling like she fit in when she first arrived in DK. She mentions that a little in our video about moving here.
We have all adjusted now and are super happy. Thanks for watching!

I think we will still do it, we just might change the format a bit. I was thinking of doing a little history of chicken and waffles and maybe interview a restaurant in the US that is known for the dish. That combined with the cooking could create more interest. It will just require a bit more prep time, but could also be fun! Stay tuned! Also, thanks for watching, we appreciate it!

Hey guys :) Here's an idea. It seems you like sports. You should do some react video on some sport were the danes are good. Maybe handball. The world cup is starting today and the danes are defending champions. Danes are crazy about those guys and national tv will send all the matches. Its all great fun. Could be fun to hear what americans think of handball.

Handball is something I don't know anything about :). I do think Kelly posted a video about handball today though actually, you should def check it out over on my new danish life.
For me, I might need to spend some time learning a bit about it. I do like sports, but I have drifted away from it a bit as of late as I got more and more into music. I should at least do a video about baseball, as that is my favorite sport, perhaps when the season starts in April. And perhaps football during the euro cup this summer. We've gone to a lot of matches over the years and a few world cups.

Sounds like you’re becoming too danish too fast, haha. Taking your time and not rushing through your stories and speech. I mean it as a good thing that you’ve taken in the danish language. I thought about something that I think most forget about us Danes. The so-called “Danske folkesjæl”
I also speculate in the fact that of course your ears/brain has to wrap itself around the sounds and tones of our language. I know that you are all fond of music, but I don’t know how much popular danish music you listen to? There are many great bands that have some of that folkesjæl in their persona and music.
I will name two for now. The band tv-2 and Niels Hausgaard. They both sing and perform mostly in danish and they both have that I call Den Danske Folkesjæl. You ought not to fall into the same trap that other foreigners do by go straight to Kim Larsen although was probably THE person to embody this soul I speak of. Which isn’t really a soul, but a state of mind. One could argue that our state of mind and personality is our soul. Anyway. Congratulations on reaching 1000 subscribers. And here’s to 5.000.000 more 😳
Btw. As you all put it; there’s more to Denmark than just Copenhagen. If I was moving to USA tomorrow and live out in the sticks in Colorado with endless visibility almost, I would get bored pretty quickly.
My advice to you three is.not to empty out your experiences within the first two years you’ve lived here. 😎

    • @allannyholmnielsen5559
      @allannyholmnielsen5559 3 года назад +1

Please bear in mind that my comment about den danske folkesjæl and mentioning singers and performers is that, while I don’t know how much danish is spoken within your house, the best way for me to have learnt English was through songs and cartoons back in the 80s and 90s without the dubbing on American shows like Transformers and Bravestar and such. Music is good.
Also check out the late Dirch Passer. It isn’t because he was always late that I call him the late. You know of course that it’s because he’s dead, Jim. Dirch was so much fun. But so are many current entertainers too
