Finally somebody who understood how to really play Kapustin... coming from a Big Band background the composer would really approve this interpretation. Hopefully he will watch this one day. Brilliant musicians and camera work, too; this is how an ideal Jazz music video should be filmed. Fresh and modern.
Not so sure about that honestly. Kapustin's interpretation emphasized strict rhythmic adherence, but this performance takes many rhythmic liberties. Great performance regardless.
Kapustin actually regards himself more of a classical musician despite having jazz influence. Just shows you there's no one correct way to play a piece.
I've discovered Kapustin music in an old film from 1964, he have played there the Tocata no. 8, i even didn't know the name of it, and a few days ago, i was searching for his music and found this beautiful album.
The arrangement is so good that I could imagine it was an original trio piece! The drums part really helps to bring out the character changes with rhythm.
I can’t listen to the original version anymore after hearing this 🙌🏻. Cannot imagine the amount of hours that went into this stunning production...this performance deserves much more attention 🎶. Bravo!!!

Jesus Christ guys, this is too good. Wonderfully played, mixed and directed (really, this stuff is pure cinema, never seen a jazz video at this qualitative range!). Kapustin is THE underrated composer of our era, the last piano technique master and revolutioner together with Ligeti. He is the last composer with which every pianist says "god, this score is written in such a brilliant way I didn't even suspect listening to the music". Sad that still a lot of academies (Switzerland too, I had personal experiences) laugh on you if you say that you play and love Kapustin. Basically they have never played him, that's the problem. If a pianist plays one of his pieces, he becomes addicted to that perfection of writing.
Maybe this video is also something for you! Another collaboration with my filmmaker Raphael Hustedt: #PianoPulseProject ruclips.net/video/v35VryiqV1c/видео.html
The entire piece is actually variations on the same folk theme that Stravinsky used in the opening of Rite and Spring. It's just so syncopated that it's kinda hard to tell except for that moment. Brilliant piece!
I never thought that at.80.years of age that.I would be learning to love a completely new to type og music but that is what has happened. Thank you for bringing it to mr ❤

man, what a way to start my day today: to randomly found this video I'm smiling, watching and having so much delight listening :3 God bless y'all 6:16 always the best part :3
I can't say how much I love this! It's just magical how the other players disappeared at 4:35 and draw the attention to the pianist alone in the room! It makes the variation even more emotional than it already is. The drum's entrance at 6:21 is perfect, just how I imagined it. Oh and I love the camerawork and especially the drums at 7:04 :) Da alle scheinbar deutsch sind, liebe Grüße :D
Beautiful and refreshing, just different enough to offer something interesting and beautiful, but still true to the original style, interpreted beautifully and with a subtle uniqueness.
Phenomenal. Thank you for your work. Truly incredible. When I talked to Kapustin he denied the beauty of this piece - but it was typical him, tormented soul of the perfectionist. He would be proud to hear your recording, I’m telling you.
at the Tchaikovsky competition 2011 Yeol Eum Son played this -- very very good, its interesting because she is a classical pianist - recomend to listen her version
Of course, I know her and her interpretations of the Kapustin solo pieces. She invited me to her Festival in Pyeoung Chang 2022 to play Kapustin with my trio.
Thank you so much! It's a lot of work behind everything! Have you heard our Blueprint album? There is much more music by Kapustin. The 4th piano concerto is already published. We are working on more!
Everything was spot on! The interpretation, the arrangement, the camera work, everything! You leave me with a lot to take in with my own interpretation of these variations. Bravo!
Fantástico! Hermosas variaciones en un elegante estilo jazzístico. Maravillosa técnica sofisticada y depurada. Muy al estilo del compositor Claude Bolling. Muchas Gracias!!!

I'm listening to various recordings of the Ukrainian maestro Kapustin's music today after waking up to learn that Putin started invading Ukraine. In a way, it reminds me of the beauty of humanity while being reminded of the ugliest parts of human existence.
Don't bring politics in here. Kapustin lived in Moscow and loved the USSR and Russia and became pianist and composer in Russian conservatory. And Russians love him and are proud of him. An attempt to tear his name away from Russian culture is devoid of common sense and is ideological in nature. He was born in Gorlovka, in the Donbass, this town was founded in 19 century by Russian government and became part of Ukraine only in the 20th century as part of the USSR. Gorlovka with whole Donbass in 2014 voted in a referendum to secede from Ukraine because of unacceptable modern Ukrainian doctrine and ideology for the peace-loving Donbass, the heir of the Russian Empire with the traditional way of life, peacefulness, love to Russia. By the way, Russia did not recognize that referendum and offered to remain as a part of Ukraine under the Minsk agreements, which Ukraine signed, but then treacherously rejected. These are facts, not opinions. I didn’t even imagine that I would write something like this under a video about Kapustin’s music .. Peace be with you and it's great that the music of the Soviet, Russian and Ukrainian musician supports you in this difficult time.
@@ГеоргийМаслик thanks for sharing those facts. I didn't try to bring in politics in my comment though. I think you read a lot into my comment that I didn't say. I never learned about Kapustins political views and I'm not interested. His music is just one very beautiful example of what humanity is capable of. Peace
I've had this in my piano rep for awhile now, won a state competition with it, and I always come back to this recording for interpretive inspiration. Very well done, I feel that Kapustin wrote this piece with a jazz vocabulary, but jazz was not his native language and I don't consider it jazz although it replicates it. Idk, I'm not a musicologist.
I think this is probably the finest musical video of jazz I've ever seen. First rate in all depts. the only thing that I might have done differently is that I wouldn't have hidden the cameras or the photographers and gaffers working on the production. I mean your not hiding the musical instruments why hide the visual instruments? but that's nit picking, great job and bravo to everyone
Rest in Peace Kapustin :'(
