Thank you for taking your time in producing your videos. The content you produce is the highest and the finest quality of videos on RUclips. Every video you upload puts a smile on my face. I've been watching you for so long now(ever since you made your double blaze farm). And I initially had no intentions to continue watching these crazy long 30 minute videos for a prolonged amount of time, but I got hooked to you very fast and soon made it a daily habit to check your RUclips channel at 4 after all my classes ended. You're my favorite RUclipsr. And I appreciate everything you do. You help me get through the tough times in life. You're helping me get through the weeks at college. And I appreciate you keeping your content clean and user friendly. I didn't even make a RUclips account for the longest time(cause I didn't think this addiction would last and I just got into the habit of checking for videos at a specific time). items in water on top of slime blocks travel faster than on stone but don't slide like ice. So that could make your item junction a lot more efficient! :) 2 slime blocks should do the trick!
As for the item elevator - the fence that is a full "cross" should have a non-ice block underneath it - like stonebricks or dirt or something!
Sancarn I would like to add removing the signs holding the water in favor of slabs since this is already a resource heavy place to load.
That wouldn't make any difference, the amount of lag caused = the amount of sides that the block has.
Although maybe the way signs render in and out may make a difference
10TimesOver not necessarily. Signs are tile entities and too many tile entities in the loaded chunks can cause lag. so replacing all the signs with half slabs would make a lot of difference but I don't see it as a thing Etho would do, at least with the hard to access signs...
Sancarn Alternately, dropping the central junction down a block might help, as that allows items to fall and hit the block below, stopping them from bouncing around in the stream.
***** The idea is to keep the items moving. A drop would make them hit a wall flat on and stop for a second.

Etho, Your sorting system will unfortunately break really fast unless you change it. As it is currently, it will break as soon as the storage for an item gets totally filled up. Here's an example: let's say you have a large amount of stone, you have so much that it fills up the whole stone storage, (this WILL happen.) When the whole storage is filled up the hopper that sorts out the stone will begin to fill up. Once fully filled up the comparator next to the hopper will give out a signal that is to high, this means that it will cross over to the other sorters next to the stone sorter and break them. To fix this you would have to change every individual sorter to the newer sorter version, which will take a lot of time and it might not be possible since you would have to move a lot of the other redstone as well. I hope you understand what I have written here (Im Swedish =P) since it is a serious problem that needs to be adressed.

Not really... The hopper will not store the stone, it drops it into a hopper... Meaning it will not fill up like he said in the video. I hope you understand.

About your SSD; First of all, never NEVER defrag a SSD. It will not speed or clean it up, it will, however, shorten the lifespan of the drive.
Secondly, if you haven't already moved your libraries (like documents, pictures, music etc) to your HDD instead of SSD that should be the first thing to do.
Another thing you can try is to use CCleaner and the already installed Disk Cleanup tool to clean up your drives.
There is another great tool called TreeSize (Free) which scans your whole drive and gives you a list sorted by folder/file size so you can easily find out what files/programs take up most of your SSD. Just make sure to first research a file/folder on Google before deleting it :P

SliinQ There's also another free alternative to TreeSize called WinDirStat that also gives you a great visual diagram of your drive. It can really help you find out whats sucking up all of the room on your drive. I highly recommend checking it out!

Time flies by !
If your SSD is filling up there's a couple of things you could do to fee up some space. I had this exact issue myself and it worked like a charm.
1. Disable hibernation (Open CMD as admin and type this in: "powercfg -h off")
2. Disable the paging file on the SSD (Look up "Advanced system settings" in the start menu and go to Settings>Performance>Advanced. Disable the paging file on the C drive and click set.
4. Turn off system restore
5. Download spacesniffer (Cool little GUI for deleting your big files)

Etho, someday if possible get a laptop you can have beside you when you record. That laptop should then be in a LAN server of your world, so you could record timelapses of your building projects, then possibly commentate over it in post editing

Now that I've spent a year doing hexadecimal assembly memory reading, I understand this completely. And now I can fathom just how genius it is.
Truly one of the greater Etho episodes.
Buy a 1TB SSD & copy over your OS drive to it using a drive duplicator. I recently grabbed the Dyconn Dubbler Dock Drive Duplicator. It also functions as a two drive dock via USB 3.0. Using a 2TB WD Black edition drive i see read/write speeds of 160-170mb/s. I use it for my steam library & random files and I'll probably pick up another for pure recordings. I highly suggest it as a dock/drive duplicator.

CC Cleaner is a free software which you can use to remove a lot of the garbage. I am going to make an assumption and say that a lot of the build up on your SSD is your internet cache. Things like your cookies, browsing history, etc.
Additionally, you could always purchase another SSD and install it yourself. Out of all the parts on your computer, the easiest to physically install is either your memory (RAM) or a drive (SSD/HDD).
I have learnt so much about basic bit-computers from Minecraft :D It makes it fairly simple.
All these water streams reminds me of all of your mob spawners you make. Keep up the good work!!!
Etho! I run 2 SSD's, one with my OS and one with lots of games and editing programs on it (I'm a video producer by trade) so I know your pain with HDD's becoming full. I can't recommend the program CCleaner enough - it deletes temporary and unnecessary files quickly and easily. It's a life saver! I'm sure I won't be the only one suggesting it but it'll probably ease your storage issues =)

***** Nope. I am always careful using it when I'm working on a video as your editing/vfx program will likely have to re-create temp files. But so long as I use it once I'm done with a project I don't lose time. Never lost any program files or anything that's caused an issue with the OS - same can be said for my colleagues who run it. Plus it's free =)

RSBorisov was just about to recommend CCleaner! thanks for reminding me that i havent ran it in way too long :P saves a lot of heartache manually trying to find and delete the obsolete files without completely wrecking your OS. plus i'm pretty sure you can tell it where you want it to clean, just simply uncheck any areas you dont want it messing with

Hey Etho! About your SSD problem: I would recommend getting an anti-virus software that comes with a auto disk clean up feature. I have one on mine and I run it once amount, it usually cleans up around 8gigs~ from my C drive. I can't give you any names because the brand of my anti virus software hasn't made an English version yet.

Michael Cottow I think using a program like CCleaner and letting it clean on boot is much easier. It doesn't require you to switch virus-scanner (which can be quite a hassle), and if it is set to clean every time you boot it is going to be done in about 5 seconds. This is the way I have done it for years and I would recommend it to everyone else.

frank rossi Items go over the hoppers, which they coulnd do if there was an entity
+ChauNyan hoppers are also tile entities, which allows them to do things like pick up items. As such they update consistently and are slightly less laggy, due to not worrying about motion

When your items reach the spot in the transport system on the ice/water stream on their way to the control panel, you can just lower the combined flow by one block, and place a glass pane over it so the items run into the pane and fall into the combined flow without as much delay.

Hey Etho, do you know any other languages? Just curious because I don't know how they do it up in Canadian schools. If you don't know any other languages, did you at least take it in school?
In canada you get to learn french by standard ciriculum.
Bill Smith In a normal public school in BC*, kids have to take french from grades 4-8. After that, you can take it as an optional elective. Many students continue taking it because it is an entrance and/or exit requirement in many universities.
If a kid is in a french immersion school, they learn french as if it were the main speaking language (From what I've been told, using english isn't very encouraged). They learn _Canadian_ french, while kids who take the elective learn _France_ french. Many kids drop out of immersion around grades 5-8 because they struggle to keep up.
*The school systems in Canada are controlled by the province, and therefore will vary a bit depending on where you take your education. For example, Alberta's education system is very different from British Columbia's system, considering they are geographically close and a part of the same country.
I think in Quebec French is the main language with English probably as an optional elective... I'm not sure if they are forced to learn a second language.
TL;DR - if Etho grew up in Canada, he most likely knows a bit of French but has forgotten most of it by now.
Well BC education (french wise) sounds very similar to Ontario's.
Chibi Chika In Québec, French is effectively the main language, but we are forced to learn English (has it is part of the main courses) from grade 1 to college (which is called a cégep here btw).
But the whole education system is quite different has the cégep/college we have in Québec would be equivalent to some sort of grade 12 and grade 13 for other Canadians. However from our middle and high school to cégep/college the student are split in different English classes according to their English level.
Frederic Cadieux Interesting! Do you take english provincial exams? In french immersion students have to take an extra french exam in grade 10 (in addition to 3 provincials in grade 10, 1 in grade 11 and 1 in grade 12).
We don't have a grade 13, high school only goes up to 12. Any more than that and it would be time at a college or university.
*Note: in Alberta they have like grade 40~ish instead of grade 12... I'm not sure how it works, but I think it's the same number of years.

I don't really remember the list for the items you will be including in the Nexus. Will you be including potions or potion making ingredients? Or will those just stay stored in the potion room in the Man Cave?

hey etho! i am a huge fan of your. i have watched every single episode of your LP series. i was thinking the other day, just exactly how much time have i spent watching you vids. so i went and added up the total time of all of you LP vids. the total time was 193 hours 5 minutes and 22 seconds... that is insane! that is equivalent to over 8 days of videos. thats insane. thank you for being such an amazing video maker and please keep up the fantastic work!

He is using it as a noun "locking repeater" but he means it as a verb "the repeater is locking."

The animation is actually very cool, but I think they should change it to be more appropriate like for example a little cross or something.
Andrew O'Gorman You can lock a repeater by powering it from the side. There's an actual lock on the repeater which is visible.

We don't know his name for sure, though some really smart individual has found him based on where he works and released pictures of him on the Internet, but Etho managed to take them down.
