Back when the series was dark and stayed true to the theme of mk. This timeliness was literally the dark times of mk. Liu Kang died. Raiden died and was resurrected back to life. But was evil. Miss this feel of MK.
DA was an amazing MK game, certainly much better than MK4 which I think was garbage. MK9 is pretty true to the old MK.
Technically, Raiden was never evil. He did get corrupted, but you could still see him on the forces of light in Armageddon's intro. ( the one where he's battling Shinnok )

@@ChickenKing17 to be fair, the roster is justified if we take into consideration the whole premise of the game, you don't have that many good guys left, seeing as the Deadly Alliance fucked them up real good, and while I could see the evil side of the roaster having a better selection, I think they wanted to try something new, introduce new guys and girls, see how they fare, which mostly didn't fare that well.'Looking at you Hsu Hao you fucking weakling'

I was in 2003 and played this my whole childhood. Only working game I have for the PS2 MK games.
My earliest memory is being on the character select as someone who was fighting with his girlfriend with their baby in the back smashed into my dad's car.
He ran off leaving the woman and child.

Strangely enough, this was my first Mortal Kombat game which is funny considering one of the most iconic character's died in the plot lmao. I do think there are better Mortal Kombat games than this one now but it still holds a special place in my heart and I honeslty think its underrated.
I agree, the music and story for this plus the gameplay and graphics of MK11 would be peak MK at this point. They would just have to change the shit version of the deadpool theme they use for MK11 (and also for the first time let us choose which song we want to hear during online fights) and that game could feed me forever if we never got another game. Also throw in some characters from Armageddon. Trust me as someone who watched the first movie as a kid over 100 times and the second 50 lol, that would be what we all secretly want but not everybody knows it 😉

@@coltgun876 my mistake bro that should be mk9 not mkx and if I'm being honest I'm a fan of deception and deadly alliance as I grew up playing mk and street fighter in the arcades back in 92 so I'm also a fan of the 2d and 3d era,mkx was ok for me but I could see how it was going the "modern audience " route so I said I'd give mk11 the benefit of the doubt but after 6 days of playing I uninstalled it as it just didn't have that dark and gritty feel that made mk to begin with,happy I passed on mk1/12.im gone back playing ps2 I think I'm finished with modern mk for now anyway
@@SlicktotheRick1 Yeah man the Midway Mortal Kombat era (excluding MK vs DC) was the good days of the series they started it off good with MK9 only for all the potential to be thrown out for MK Teen Titans in the next game. And I really do not care for the Special Forces so it was annoying how 90% of the story was focused on them. Only good newcomers from MKX was Erron Black and Takeda the rest are just filler. And as for MK11... Yeah I'm not gonna say anything about that one. MK12 I haven't even played yet so I can't say anything about it. But I'm glad to see that they brought Havik and Ashrah back.

YEESSS.... one of my best childhood memories was playing mortal kombat on the playstation 2. Armageddon was my childhood, but Deadly Alliance and Deception I didn't get to try out until this past year. Both are phenomenal, so is Armageddon. The 3D Era was a damn masterpiece.

I was just thinking about how I'd like any of the games between Deadly Alliance and Armageddon ported to modern consoles... or for Sony to get off their ass and put more classics up on PSPlus instead of moving at a snails pace regarding all that. I mean, I do have my old consoles and these games too but it would be more convenient and I wouldn't have to be unplugging half my stuff over and over again.

@@ShiftyGuy777 MK4 has outdated graphics. MKSM wasn't too hard, but Shoa Khan was way too hard, especially when he swings that hammer and it takes almost half of your health. MKSP I don't think I've played.
MKDA was the game that got me into the hype because I hadn't seen a MK game in a long time so you could probably understand why.

It’s sad mortal kombat has such an iconic sounding soundtrack compared to games like street fighter and they don’t even take advantage of it in the modern games. They opt for a generic sounding orchestra sound that, even though it’s cinematic, has no soul. They should be leaning into their retro techno soundtrack from older games and take advantage of players nostalgia.
Fight on the Black Market Alley and Black Dragon Fight Club stages in MK11, the soundtracks are very reminiscent of the DA/Deception era.

MK use to have an electric horror sound and it was incredible. Music from deadly alliance even keeps remnants of the old theme that started in the original trilogy. The OG composer didn't do the music for X or XI and it shows

That male Shaolin screm you hear during the music is Liu Kang trapped in Shang Tsung, tormented by his evil.
Shang Tsung transplants Liu Kang's soul into one of the Dragon King goons in the intro.
@@Euro.Patriot no actually he doesn't. He keeps Liu Kang soul for himself. It's told in his bio for Deception how he was trapped inside Shang Tsung during the fight with Raiden in Deception's intro. Even in Quan Chi's ending where he has Kano kill Shang, then Quan Chi kills Kano right after, this releases the spirit of Liu Kang
