I'm gonna say it and idc if i get hated for it but this game is better than blasphemous and i played both. This game is GOTY for me it is goated 🐐
Well... I am a great Blasphemous fan, but i'm not gonna hate you. Because I understand what you mean...
I think Blasphemous 2 did some things better, like the music, the visual designs or the movement of the character. But in the other hand, with Blasphemous 2 I felt dissapointed with the difficulty (specially from the bosses, with the only exception of Eviterno) and the fact that the game becomes totally linear after the first half.
In The Last Faith, I loved the bosses; even if most of them don't took me more than 6 or 8 tries, all the battles were funny and challenging, and a lot of them ended without healing items and with my health almost destroyed. The feeling of that is amazing...
Apart from that, the map felt much bigger, there's more enemy variety, there's options for diferent builds and the gameplay, even without being as agile and soft as Blasphemous 2's, feels really entertaining once you are used to it.
I think that both games are almost at the same level; maybe TLF a bit higher. Where one game lacks, the other glows, and viceversa.
I appreciate how ambitious this game is, but I also think both Blasphemous games completely trounce it in terms of atmosphere and especially game feel. Just compare how limp the counter attack feels in last faith, how inconsistent and sloppy the evade maneuver is and how a proper difficulty curve basically does not exist. The game is just as sloppy as it is expansive. I also hate how everyone is super verbose while really not saying anything in this game.
Game sorta reminds me of Bloodstained. Unfortunately it's just nowhere near as creative.
@@garurumon1203 true I loved that feeling when you barely survived a boss encounter and killed them with 1 hp left lol
Honestly, I do still like blasphemous 1 better though I do think this could be better than blasphemous 2. This is one of my new favorite indie games out there though I will say this; Blasphemous definitely had better music. The only tracks in this game I can remember being all that memorable were the Flaming Apostate theme and Laddock's 2nd phase theme. The endings and story did also feel a little less impactful although that could entirely be my fault if I didn't understand everything but I did talk to everyone I could and read every item description. I do understand the basic story but the story in Blasphemous did feel a lot more fleshed out. This game does have better combat than Blasphemous sometimes though, and my brother mentioned this and now I have it stuck in the back of my head; who would win, The Penitent One or Eryk? I do think the Penitent one wins this but it could go either way, the whole monster transformation thing is a huge advantage though it is also very limited time if you can't hit anyone. He definitely has more weapons than the Penitent one seeing as that guy gets 3, but seeing as the Penitent one canonically cannot die, has a true invincibility spell, a death ray from god and can stop time I would have to say the Penitent one would win. Though I can see Eryk also winning, but he doesn't have the ability to freeze time and he can't come back to life in the story.
After playing this game I tried to play the first blasphemous then died to parkour like three times in a row then deleted it😂 should I play the second one?
7/10 for me. Needed a NG+ in my opinion, but it was solid!
I am a Metroidvania superfan, who has been excited for this game for years. But pretty pessimistic as I have been let down by 90% of every MV I anticipate. And I must say - I am pleasantly surprised as this might be my favorite MV of 2023 (if not this, then Lone Fungus).
Great review, if they add some features to help with QoL would tip me more over to buying the game.
You always influence me on trying these types of games
You should probably check out Moonscars. It's not as good as this one but it's still worth looking at. Dark Devotion is also pretty underrated (almost a hidden gem) in my opinion.
I can play this game on my XSX happy gaming from Greece 🎮👍🇬🇷
I'm playing on my PS5.
Love the look of this, thanks for the recommendation!
So never to JRPGs Metroidvanias are my jam and just finished Blasphemous 2 a few months ago. Not to mention I love souls lol so very much looking forward to diving into this game.
I loved the game, it took me 21 hours to finish.
Great review. On my wishlist now :)
enjoyed the review! more content on metroidvania games pls!
Oh wow thank you!!!
Castlevania is my favorite 2D game series! This one is bloody fantastic! If you were into Blasphemous, look no further!
I'm at about 40% completion. In the first hours, I liked it, but didn't love it as much as I thought I would. After discovering how little hand-holding there is and really getting at it with the whip, it's my favorite 2D Metroidvania since Castlevania : Order of Ecclesia. As good as the Blasphemous series is, I prefer The Last Faith for its Gothic environments and restrained, Bloodborne inspired, color palette. The music is moody, just like the art direction. It's as much a souls game as it's a continuation of what Konami did years ago.
In my idea, the reviewers who gave it a "7" or below boil down to a matter of taste with little objectivity. Not suprising since so many reviewers now have a lot less background than anybody who's been playing videogames for over 30 years. Not that they're wrong, but it's impossible for them to have the same perspective as someone who's been playing Castlevania since the NES days.
There are fewer bosses than expected, but I don't see it as a negative. It's fantastic spiritual successor to Castlevania and the developers clearly love From Software's games. There are creature designs inspired from many Castlevania games, Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Elden Ring. This game wears its inspirations on its sleeves! One could say it's a rip-off, but I say it's an hommage to the games that inspired it. Definitely my favorite pixel art game in years.
For those who will eventually get stuck like I did before getting the hookshot, go back to the center of Mythringal. I spent a couple hours trying to progress in the ice caves way before I was supposed to be there and I thought the difficulty was broken. I wasn't at the right place at all! In Mythringal, there's a pillar with a path downwards that isn't open at first, but will be accessible after an encounter with an NPC. It's a small detail that can bring a lot of frustration, but that's how these games are by design. No hand-holding!
Such engaging 2D games don't come often. Enjoy! I hope it sells enough so we get a sequel!
My favorite game of all time above blasphemous 2 and Bloodborne
You deserve more subs
It's been a long time coming. I have wished for Konami to do a sequel or remake to my all time fave 2d castlevania symphony of the night game. But based on their history of making horrible decisions for putting out old games fans actually want, I knew it wasn't going to happen. And then came The Last Faith. I ve been waiting for the game since I heard from it 3 yrs ago and it hasn't disappointed me! 👏
i got this day one, even sat and waited for it and i frigging loved it
Fantastic video
I've always had mixed feelings about this Blasphemous art style (a bit depressing for my taste) but when i first saw the trailer for this game it gave me a lot of SOTN vibes for some reason so i'm definitely picking it up.
Great review
“There’s no marker on the map to show me where to go”……..lol. Kids these days. I swear to god, modern day new gamers wouldn’t have lasted playing any games made before 2005
Some flaws with the game however, a strong foundation to build upon. Would definitely love a sequel.
Nice game, but it kept crashing on Nintendo switch . I still prefer blasphemous 1 and 2
This is amazing! Just play it!
Did you make good use of the map markers to help out with where to come back later?
Sometimes yeah
good review
How intuitive the map is to progress is a very important part of metroidvanias. I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays.
Eric have you heard of crowsworn
I haven't! Is it good?
It’s a metroidvania where you play as a crow with in a hollow knight art style. The game is not out yet.
have you played castlevania what's your favorite castlevania game
I love Castlevania IV on the SNES
@@Ericutz4thewinThat game blew my mind as a kid. Great choice!
I just don't get it... WHY SHOULD EVERY GAME BE "SOULS LIKE" in order it to be good...Because it shouldn't be...there are many games that are fun which are not souls like. And definitely this game isn't souls-like...it's a 2D ACTION ADVENTURE game which is leagues away from hyper-animated video games...but don't get me wrong, there are more fun 2D games than Dark Souls.
Have you played bloodborne because thus is very bloodborne inspired
beware this game is available on switch but doesnt run at all
I got it on Switch and it's working well after they patched it. But not running at all!? Damn! I don't know, erase and reinstall, maybe. Good luck with this one!
There is a lot of shit that this game is missing and that's mostly QoL.
What's with a parry which needs two buttons pressed simultaneously. And why the hell does it depend on a resource?
What the hell am I supposed to do with the weapons that I am finding in the last quarter of the game. The game needs a new game plus mode urgently.
There is no skill tree that could bring changes to the combat system, on the other hand Blasphemous has nice movesets.
We have a drop attack, dodge lunge attack, combo and spell and what not.
You want a game as inspiration have at it but instead of blatant copying of mechanics which are hated by gamers in general bring some system that works already, the healing system in Bloodborne is hated by the community for as long as that game is out but this game is no Bloodborne.
The game does have a sense of discovery and is much better than many modern metroidvanias.
But this game leaves a lot to wish for hope they implement it in future patches.
We said , that’s why I prefer blasphemous
@@ttalah2964 do i care?
@@respicio2990 Oops, my bad! I didn't realize you were a Super Mario and Tetris aficionado. 😂 Guess I'll save my Pong enthusiasm for another day!
