For terrain I bounce between 2mm and 1.8mm depending on the recommended layer height in the FDG PDF file. For minis I use a .1mm layer height. I hope to play around with speed setting in the future however I'm happy with the print quality I'm at currently. I don't want to mess with the setting right now since they work.
@@Froggy-ts8yj Terrain I totally use .2 as well. As far as print speeds I usually do 60mm/s for terrain, and 45mm/s for models. And apart from that I usually leave everything else the same as well. And no need to change settings if its printing how you want it to!
I use .2 for terrain. For minis on my anycubic I use .1. On my MP mini pro it's .08. Ironically if I go below these settings i have issues with overhangs that should be achievable witbout supports.
@@Jesters3DTabletopGaming a trick for minis. If you are using supports double or tripple the thickness of the supports. So if your printing at .1. Use a .2 or .3 thickness for your supports. They will snap off easier without damaging the model.
Thank you for this video. I haven't found any other channel that just printed and showed the results. Now I know what to expect and when a nozzle change would be advantageous.
Thanks!! I really appreciate that. I actually need to get back into making videos. This comment is just the push I needed. So thank you and have a glorious day!
A lot of times when you go below .1 on an FDM printer the quality of the resolution is highly dependent on the stepper motors. Cura is pretty good at knowing what the stock settings for the motors are. I would not go below the finest settings in cura. That is why you see a huge difference between .08 and .04. Also I would not recommend anyone to go below .05 resolution on an FDM printer. When dealing with resolutions like that you are into the realm of what should be done with SLA printers. On a side note.. Good comparison.
I found your video by accident. You deserve more subs, loved the video. I upgraded my ender 3 with lots of things to try and achieve speed without sacrificing quality. I want to see what I can get out of it with my profile settings. Thx for the vid.
Awesome, so glad you enjoyed!! And sadly I didn't record any of the mask process. But I did take pictures. I could always describe the process and show the pictures I do have. Next time I do a print like the dragon skull I'll definitely be more prepared to record. It was kind of a last minute rush job to get it ready for halloween. Thanks for watching!
Last time I tried to print in an extra fine layer height option with cura, it scratched up my bed, my brand new glass bed speaificaly made to make prints stick when heated and then realise after cooled. Never again. I just go with the "Fine" option. Forget what number it is but it works the best for me
I could be wrong but i think you can print smaller layer hight with larger diameter nozzle because the width of the layer stays the same only the volume and hight is reduced when choosing smaller layer hight. But i dont know if i understand it correctly so i think max layer width for 0.4 nozzle mus be 0.4 right
I LOVE the dragon prop by the way, would love to see your start to finish process from printing to painting and a rough estimate of how long each part takes.
Ya pretty happy with the dragon! I honestly should have recorded the process...it was a bit of a rush job just to get it ready for halloween. Next time though!

I promise I’m not trying to be mean, I enjoy your videos. Bro, what kind of printer is this? How small are those? They look terrible. My (quick/dirty) .3mm layer height prints at 100mms look better than almost all of these. With Polymaker PLA Plus/Pro or whatever. I don't think you're supposed to go past 80% of the nozzle size, so that explains why some of your coarse layer sizes didn't work so good.
