  • Marking 100 years of the cutting of the first sod at Carfin Grotto
100 years ago today on September 19th 1920, Andy O'Donnell the oldest miner in Carfin cut the first sod of turf which began the building works of what now is now as Carfin Grotto. To mark this momentous occasion in a small way given the restrctions, some of the current Grotto volunteers alongside the grandchildren of Andy O'Donnell came to reenact that first event in long history
The grounds will be illuminated this evening and Rosary will be relayed over the sound system at 8pm
