Yo a fellow Nebraskan! My parents are from the Balkans and got bombed to hell by the US in the 90’s but they somehow made it out and ended up in Nebraska. My uncle is a musician/artist and agriculture engineer from Nigeria and raised me and my cousins on Kendrick’s music all the way back in his early mix tape days and he always emphasized the importance of making art that spoke to the people not to the wallet and saw Kendrick as an example of that. It’s so beautiful to see the impact Kendrick has had on people and the culture and that alone speaks to how much of a genuine human he is while also being the absolute GOAT
Huge respect for Kendrick for "reaching the top" and still remembering the up-and-comers, the reactors, and those he grew up with. Most people would let his kind of success get to their heads

My family is "from" Kansas-Nebraska. While the Shawnee Tribe up there was out fighting for the North in the civil war, the land was stolen by colonists. (We're not even from the plains, our _original_ home that got stolen was in the warm east.) A whites-only law was passed, then overturned; forced assimilation remained legal. Boarding schools.
My grandma didn't talk about life before she made it to Texas. I didn't know the stories and traditions I learned as a kid were Shawnee, I legit just thought my family was weird 😭
My aunt and went over big family dirt after my dad and grandpa passed. Grandma didn't want any of her kids or grandkids to grow up without anything Shawnee, but she still thought everyone needed to fully pass to make it. She gaslit everyone, her kids were "tan" because they were healthy, she herself was that "tan" from gardening, but she went full scary clicking mode at us grandkids if we ever missed sunscreen since we're all white-light.
It's so incredibly healing, so incredibly dope that Kendrick and Jean did a show together as equals in NEBRASKA. Hip hop in Nebraska!!!! With big names!!!!!! My God, there CAN be good things up there!!! There's culture outside of Omaha?? What?! I'm so, so, so happy Jean is thriving in NE. Most of my life I thought of it as this deeply terrifying, sinister place... but also just like, super white-bread, sad, empty. That land never deserved to be used for evil. He's a special guy for sure. And this is who K-Dot has always been. He's never switched up and has ALWAYS looked out for his people. Not all hip-hop reactors are black I know, but the majority of them are. He wants his culture and his community to eat and to win and his actions prove it consistently. The fact that Kendrick, personally removed copyright to all his recent diss tracks goes against everything his record company would want. That’s saying volumes. Some will say it’s just a PR stunt. They could be telling the truth but a stunt that’s garnering him support.
People say “Hip hop is a sport”. In all sports, strategy and tactics matter just as much as talent. Just go around RUclips and see how much reactors appreciate Kendrick for doing this.

I've always dabbled in the current hip-hop scene here and there, but never fully got into the scene until like I have now.
