I'm so glad you reacted to this, Hugo! I'm sure there are a lot of people that think it's simply "tacky," but it's not. Whether you are a girl or a boy, there's a lot of angst that can set in, when you don't think you are doing what you should be doing in order to be like the popular girls or boys. Becoming a teenager, then a young adult (male or female), is not an easy road to travel with confidence. When you hear a song that tells you that the other people you know in life have most likely been through the same things you are going through, it helps. Sadly, sometimes youngsters don't get the information from their parents.
Then, as Dan mentioned about the original "Danny" who actually wrote the song, there are those who are simply nerds, and don't know how to relate to most of the others around them. Being "different" is REALLY hard. Believe me...I know. One of my videos is called "The Beginning, The Middle, and The End." In it, I tell about what being "different" felt like, to me.
