I remember reading a theory from Twitter (idk remember where) about how the bone marrow samples the Preceptors used for the Bloomborn Scion experiment were taken from Dan Feng. It was mentioned that his scales and horns were taken away, so that possibility is on the table. The Ten Lords Commission detaining Dan Heng even after his rebirth was a blessing in disguise imo because he would've fallen back into the hands of the Preceptors as a naive newly reborn person. As awful as this sounds, I want Dan Feng to turn out to be the ultimate victim in all of this just so that he can be vindicated. I really want the characters who blamed him for all the tragedies that had occurred to understand that he had his fair share of suffering and that he's already paid the price (*cough cough* Jingliu and Blade *cough*). I would imagine that this entire ordeal was absolutely soul-crushing for Dan Feng, and I wouldn't doubt that he felt the same way that Blade did about it (aka wanting to die for his sins, but he couldn't because of circumstances).
Can't believe I forgot to mention that the Lu in Bailu's name means dew which is associated with Abundance. In Fables About the Stars, Black Swan describes Yaoshi as: "The tender sprouts will grow to the sky, and the dew that falls from their branches will rid you of sickness and poison." This is consistent with dew as a fruit of immortality as described in the Borisin Folk Song Collection's 'Duran's Pilgrimage to the Master of Immortality.' More hints from Hoyo that Bailu is the Bloomborn Scion and a product of Abundance's power. There's also the abundance mechanic of the Dewdrop in Simulated Universe. And I also forgot to mention she has an Eidolon called Ambrosial Aqua lmao. (I made the same comment on P2 video but it's relevant enough to share here, too)
Honestly, I am glad this prove that Bai Heng and Bailu share nothing, but also gives a new layer of tragedy for the Cloud Quintent's fallout. Like, the Quintet is there for Bailu: She mentions that Jing yuan frequently visits her and asks her questions, blade visited the Loufu for a similar reason, + in penacony, he even dreams of both her, and Beihang, an Jingliu did the same thing Blade did :/ They all have a feeling she’s Baiheng, but the evidence doesn’t support it, or it just doesn’t fully make sense right now, since we have not enough data :/ If she was Baiheng, and the experiment went wrong due to Interference, then that would be fine, if not, and this is a bigger conspiracy, that would also be fine, but idk how to feel about souls being altered to be like another soul just because they have their genetic trait. Firefly obviously shows otherwise, since she isn’t like Titania, even tho she’s literally a clone of her, blood and all, and even then the clones all have different personalities in the myraid celestia trailer. Imma be honest, imma need more confirmation that the body and soul are one, before I believe that Bailu isn’t Baiheng, since the starskiffs stuff just doesn’t make sense to me :/ It might be due to the experimentation influence, and other stuff, but why is Bailu’s hair pink? Is their just a race of foxian that has pink hair. (nvm I just remember Jiaoqui, so their is literally one.) My best two cents as to why Bailu isn’t Baiheng, is if the high elders just summoned another soul from the hall of karma, using dna from another Pink-haired foxian, and along with Dan Feng’s experiments, created Bailu, with the starskiff stuff being due to being a Nameless, or some other factors. That’s literally the only thing I can think of to explain the starskiff one, ngl :/ But tbh, imma need more data before we can solidify anything man .-.
@@heilamwether8911 the dream wasn't even about Starskiffs, Bailu just said she was dreaming she was super high up and that she could go wherever she wanted. She never once mentioned Starskiffs, that's just something people assumed. It's all just advanced science so I'm honestly now at a point where I don't even think High Elders are special, just gatekeepers of the secrets that let their race be powerful.
I love your videos so much, they're always so articulate and detailed while still being accessible to anyone who cares enough to pay attention. It confirmed a number of my hopes and suspicions, as well as opened my eyes on things I had missed or misunderstood. Thank you so much for the time you put into making and sharing this ! Thank you for the closed captions as well, as someone whose first language isn't english with audio-processing issues, they're a life-saver. If you're ever willing to grant it the time, I would love your answer on one particular question. Since you claim here that there's no indication that either Dan Heng nor any of his predecessors ever had a tail, what do you make of his idle animation (and perhaps the fact that his horns also get longer during it) ? Speaking as a more casual lore enjoyer, I had interpreted the concern about Bailu's tail + the fact that the preceptors allegedly tore off Dan Feng's scales and horns (according to Jingliu) as indication that a vidyadhara's more 'draconic' features might be directly linked to their powers/abilities - as such, the preceptors would have been weakening Dan Feng by mutilating him in that fashion while monitoring whether Bailu was living up to high elder standards by keeping an eye on her tail. I assume it is that same understanding that led some people (myself included) to theorize that Dan Heng's tail was cut off during his imprisonment as a way of keeping him in check. This would explain why it only appears as a (literal) phantom limb nowadays, and why he seemed so uncharacteristically self-conscious when Bailu asked why he didn't have one. I would love to hear your two-cent on the matter, as an evidently more seasoned lore expert, and know if there's any merit to this possibility or if there's positively nothing supporting it. In any case, thank you again for this lesson ! I look forward to your next work, whenever that comes out 😊
Hi so at this point I'm assuming that his horns and tail are actually made out of water cause they are similar to the texture of his water dragon, water spears, and, of course, his body was re-shaped with water. Personally, I subscribe to the idea that the Vidyadhara are similar to Oceanids from Genshin if that makes sense. Bailu's horns and tail look like they are permanent fixtures of her form and I have no reason to believe she can manipulate them at this point. I think the transmutation arcanum is exactly how it sounds - the ability to transmute form, so... changing your appearance, turning into a dragon, creating spears, creating a water dragon, making yourself look like a human instead of a Vidyadhara... that Oceanid boss in Genshin says it pretty well: "The power of water is its ability to take any shape..." So basically, I think the secrets of the transmutation arcanum is literally just knowing how to manipulate the shape of the water. Bailu can't do this as well as Dan Heng does, she appears to just splash her gourd around haphazardly to compensate. Currently, the only thing we have that suggests the High Elder may have had a tail is the suspicious egg mural in the scalegorge that looks like it might have a tail wrapping around it's back but its hard to say with certainty. The same set of murals shows a horned Vidyadhara without a tail. The Yubie statue also seems to have never had a tail, and the murals next to it also depict him without a tail. There are also the mirages of both Dan Feng and Yubie in the scalegorge that display horns but no tail. It's not just Jingliu that says the Preceptors took his scales (and horns, I guess). Jing Yuan also tells us that they did that with the fault exuviation charm. Exuviation is the shedding of skin, shells, or similar outer coverings. Lingjie's poem also implies it in Eternal Regrets of a High Elder: "When the dragon turns red, then the green pines shall shed." This has a multilayered meaning to it, but one of them is that the red is blood and the green pines are Dan Feng's scales.
They said that Dan Feng’s power was split between healing and destruction for Bailu and Dan Heng respectively. But Bailu has shown capability for destructive powers and the only thing making the statement believable is that Dan Heng can’t heal yet. But if it’s not true, why can’t he heal?
trauma? As far as Dan Heng is aware, "healing" is the one thing he must never attempt (unless he wants to go back to jail). Dan Heng would have recognised the extra scrutiny he'd suffer upon doing something "similarly" to his past incarnation. Then there's Dan FENG'S healing trauma: his original intentions, their success/failure, the immediate (& violent) misunderstandings, the death & resurrecting of Yingxing, Jing Liu going Mad, getting framed & imprisoned... it would be easy for Dan Heng to attribute ALL of his past life's traumas as originating from "high elder healing". Thusly, Dan Heng Does Not Heal. It's very likely that he CAN. His apparent "lack" of healing aptitude could be part "active avoidance" (because Trauma), part "subconscious block" (because Trauma).
Thing is I can't say that your belief is completely wrong but I can't say that it's correct either. A few things that were actually confirmed, Bailu is indeed connected to Baiheng, this is far more obvious in the CN with them having the same name like Dan Feng and Dan Heng. In fact I think that the explanation is far more simple. The preceptors messed with Dan Feng's experiment, causing it to fail when it was going to succeed. But their dwindling population forced some of them to consider that maybe Dan Feng had the right idea and that created the schism. The preceptors realizing that the opinion of their clan was turning against them pinned the blame on Dan Heng and decided to use him as a scapegoat and it was working up until Jing Yuan exiled Dan Heng, and then Dan Heng came back showed that he still has half of the Elder's powers. This messed them up as they knew that it was going to cause people to ask questions. So their solution was to kill either Bailu or Dan Heng that way they could hide their crime.
This is honestly interesting... But we can't really look away from the fact that Bailu does have some similarities with Baiheng... But I can actually see this happen... The corrupted Preceptors wanting to pin more blame on Maple (My nickname for Dan Feng because apparently the Feng in his name means Maple) and covering their little ways on making a new obedient puppet for their climb in power.... Maple probably knew this but decides not to say anything, probably knowing that they will face a bigger retribution in the future... And Maple might also knew that there are other darker secrets and experiments that the Preceptors and other corrupted Vidyadhara are hiding and will continue to find ways to hide it to the point that no one will be able to trace it back to them.. So instead of letting them find more ways to make their experiments flourish, he shuts himself and ignore them no matter how much they push/threaten him when they ask for the ways of the Transmutation Arcanum... But that is just me and my theory... Luna and Maple deserves justice and Bailu deserves freedom in her life! I can't wait for part two... We need more lore confirmation in game because I want to really know... People say that Blade waited for Luna/Maple for 1600 Years but I have yet to see any theory to prove that... Keep up a good work!!!
After watching your videos on Luofu I wonder about Jing-Yuan's role in all this though. Being such an important character, it seems so strange to me that he is the only one without blemish. The other question I ask myself is when and how we will return to Luofu and how we will find out the truth. Thanks for your great work anyway.
I think that Bailu was made from pieces of the body of the draconic abomination that Dan Feng created when trying to resurrect Baiheng. That was the first time the Draconic Transmutation Arcanum was used to create such a creature, combined with an Abundance power (Shuhu). I think such a sample would've been priceless base for the experiments the Sanctus Medicus were doing. So Bailu is not directly a reincarnated Baiheng, but still born from a part of her. ....But, I haven't watched your Part 2 yet so I'll head there now. ;)
I love the research and content of your videos but... unfortunately I'm really sensitive to sound quality so I have to watch your videos mute and read subtitles only x.x; Not sure if a mic upgrade or surround isolation is something you're intending to invest in, and I really don't want to make you feel pressured into anything; just wanted to let you know. Looking forward to more HSR lore videos!
Isn't it mentioned that Dan Feng specifically designated Bailu to be his successor? (though I don't know if it was mentioned at the time this video was made) Wouldn't it then be possible that Dan Feng did something to make Baiheng into a Vidyadhara egg. And possibly that said egg has lay dormant for centuries, until Dan Shu and the Disciples' experiments/meddling?
4:55 -- 'undestroyed letters' states that bailu is young and not chosen by selection. either the preceptors lied about dan feng naming bailu as his successor, or some writer screwed up the details haha (edit: actually this was addressed at 21:08, i hadn't gotten that far yet!)
Omg. I reaaaally thought that meeting between Bailu and Jingliu confirmed the Baiheng theory. Now I am convinced otherwise, but still, why does Jingliu act like that? Was she herself brainwashed into believing it's reincarnated Baiheng? Or was meta level sarcasm both by her and Hoyo?)
Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but i heard that dan heng hides his tail? Like he can bring it out if he wanted too, I think the high elders can choose to keep them out or not.
Dan Heng has a translucent tail that he can reveal during his idle animation, hence the permanent tail mention. When he reveals the tail, his horns also extend. His default horns are also usually transparent if you look closely, and were transparent as Dan Feng, too. They look like they are likely made of water, or something. Bailu's horns and tail are distinctly different in shape and texture and she's shown no signs of being able to manipulate their appearance so far. She seemed surprised that Dan Heng didn't have a tail and I don't think she would be if she was able to hide hers since she would assume his was just hidden.
Unfortunately his tail and horns are not real( the preceptors most likely cut them off. Dan Heng has golden elements on his horns which are Kintsugi : a traditional repair method that takes the broken or chipped parts of vessels, glues them back together with a Japanese lacquer, and paints the seams with gold or silver powder
I love this theory because if its true we can maybe get anothe bailu and dan hang story were they find out about bailus origin and a plot point can maybe be that the 2 groups grew tired of bailu resisting them and not helping them so they decide on making a new high elder but it goed wrong then we can get like a frankenstein monster high elder as a boss or a perfect high elder clone that will destroy the 2 groups just because it is more powerfull then them and they dont have a way to stop it and then bailu ,dan heng and the rest can stop it and maybe find out the truth about bailu origins and what actually dan fang did (It could improve the stroy of xianshou by doing this because to me i was looking forward on playing the xanshou story but was disappointed but if they do something like this it could make the planet be more intersting) [sorry for spelling mistakes these names are long and hard to spell correctly ]

She mentions that Jing yuan frequently visits her and asks her questions, blade visited the Loufu for a similar reason, + in penacony, he even dreams of both her, and Beihang, an Jingliu did the same thing Blade did :/
They all have a feeling she’s Baiheng, but the evidence doesn’t support it, or it just doesn’t fully make sense right now, since we have not enough data :/
If she was Baiheng, and the experiment went wrong due to Interference, then that would be fine, if not, and this is a bigger conspiracy, that would also be fine, but idk how to feel about souls being altered to be like another soul just because they have their genetic trait.
Firefly obviously shows otherwise, since she isn’t like Titania, even tho she’s literally a clone of her, blood and all, and even then the clones all have different personalities in the myraid celestia trailer.
Imma be honest, imma need more confirmation that the body and soul are one, before I believe that Bailu isn’t Baiheng, since the starskiffs stuff just doesn’t make sense to me :/
It might be due to the experimentation influence, and other stuff, but why is Bailu’s hair pink? Is their just a race of foxian that has pink hair. (nvm I just remember Jiaoqui, so their is literally one.)
My best two cents as to why Bailu isn’t Baiheng, is if the high elders just summoned another soul from the hall of karma, using dna from another Pink-haired foxian, and along with Dan Feng’s experiments, created Bailu, with the starskiff stuff being due to being a Nameless, or some other factors.
That’s literally the only thing I can think of to explain the starskiff one, ngl :/
But tbh, imma need more data before we can solidify anything man .-.
@@heilamwether8911 the dream wasn't even about Starskiffs, Bailu just said she was dreaming she was super high up and that she could go wherever she wanted. She never once mentioned Starskiffs, that's just something people assumed. See, my assumption when I saw that was that she was tapping into dragon stuff since it's associated with High Elder powers (transmutation arcanum is the ability to turn into a dragon, like Dan Feng did).
And don't forget this sci-fi setting doesnt have magic.
This is really well done ,you definitely convinced me . Your videos made me more interested in this bit of lore than the actual game did
They said that Dan Feng’s power was split between healing and destruction for Bailu and Dan Heng respectively.
Underrated channel
Great job and you put a lot of time and detail into this. Mihoyo should hire you as a writer
Bro.. this video is eye-opening for me. I saw some of this reading material, but I couldn't make 2+2=4. Thank you, really
keep up the good work. I am loving these videos
omg this is a fucked uo twist to bailu story i love it
Even worse when you start thinking about who named her, who styles her hair, who dresses her? 😅
Part two is out which covers what you mentioned and much more :)
Okay, but what if it was Aha who made Bailu look like Baiheng
That would genuinely be hysterical AND in character with their manipulative tendencies 😂
So Bailu is not directly a reincarnated Baiheng, but still born from a part of her.
....But, I haven't watched your Part 2 yet so I'll head there now. ;)
it would've solve a solution for dragons: just make other species into dragons!
(though I don't know if it was mentioned at the time this video was made)
Wouldn't it then be possible that Dan Feng did something to make Baiheng into a Vidyadhara egg.
Wow and now Ruan Mei is on the way to Luofu
I love this theory because if its true we can maybe get anothe bailu and dan hang story were they find out about bailus origin and a plot point can maybe be that the 2 groups grew tired of bailu resisting them and not helping them so they decide on making a new high elder but it goed wrong then we can get like a frankenstein monster high elder as a boss or a perfect high elder clone that will destroy the 2 groups just because it is more powerfull then them and they dont have a way to stop it and then bailu ,dan heng and the rest can stop it and maybe find out the truth about bailu origins and what actually dan fang did
(It could improve the stroy of xianshou by doing this because to me i was looking forward on playing the xanshou story but was disappointed but if they do something like this it could make the planet be more intersting) [sorry for spelling mistakes these names are long and hard to spell correctly ]
wait, this isn't about Mikhail Char Legwork at all?
I wonder why she looks so much like Baiheng?
let her cook
