Thank you! I'm about to stat an ABSN program and am angling to get into critical care. This video was extremely informative since Cardio is one of my interests.
I just recently got out of the hospital for a burst appendix I was in PICU for 3 weeks and then I ended up transferred to the adult unit for about 3 days then that Sunday of that same week I was transferred back to the PICU for the remainder of my stay because I had my shunt tube on the outside of me so that last week that I was in the hospital I was in the PICU I spent my birthday in the PICU this was back in September of this year. My nurses that I had went above and beyond what was expected they brought me in cake and balloons and a card signed by most of the nurses that I had.
you are very knowledgeable and this is a great intro to CVICU for "new grads" like myself trying to decide the next step as i continue to grow as a nurse.. thank you!!!! 💕💕💕💕

do you feel like your previous knowledge from nursing school helped you? what was the hardest part for you as a new grad in the CVICU? currently stuck on two offers in the CVICU or an ER level 3
Hi, yes and no to the nursing school part. I say yes because nursing school provided me with the foundational knowledge and skills I needed to be a successful nurse. I say no because nursing school did not teach me how to be a critical care nurse. Though, that’s expected because nursing school can only teach you so much in a short period of time. What I didn’t learn in nursing school I learned on the job during orientation and afterwards as well. The hardest part was transitioning from student to nurse and making decisions without having someone to hold my hand through it all. The CVICU/ICU and ED are very different workflows and paces so maybe decide on which flow better suits your personality and or goals.

My orientation was a total of 5 months, days and nights. I didn’t learn all of this during orientation but I did over time. In my opinion, it’s impossible to learn everything in the short time span of orientation.

What’s the lowest acuity icu based on your experience?
That is hard to say because it honestly depends on what type of patients and diagnoses each ICU treats. That varies from hospital to hospital. However, I would say the highest acuity patients are in CVICUs that have high volume cases, do transplants, and accept every cardiac support device.
What state do you live in ?
I live in CO and they gatekeep the ICUs mostly a certain race in the ICU over here
@@tyrn3783icu is def Gate kept .. keep trying and don’t get stuck in Medsurge for more than 18 months if you want to b an ICU nurse
@@tyrn3783 I’ve been tele for over 5 years I just switch to Cvicu .. if I left years ago I could have gotten into crna school already 😩
