(My degree is in zoology) I’m just happy that people are finally acknowledging the intelligence of animals. When I was a kid, a long time ago, the “experts” argued if dogs dream. 🙄 ANY dog owner could answer this. We now watch videos of octopus dreaming.
I don’t care how many words a cat knows. They ignore all of them.
my kitty has some basic sign language that i taught her because she is now totally deaf, but her sneakiest trick is she understands switches which means i cant leave the heating on the timer as she nose how to switch it on she can also switch on my electric blanket and the fire so everything has to be plugged out or the electricity company would be sending in the bailiffs lol
My cat used to keep track of the other animals in the house using mirrors
My cat knows the words, but does not care.
Yeah, Simon always pronounces everything correctly.
our cat either understands the question "wanna go outside" or really reads my wife's body language well.
The true mark of intelligence; not caring
Sloth rhymes with moth, not oath.
OMG, this sort of thing drives me nuts... He even mentioned the Zootopia scene where she says "they're all sloths?!"
"sloth" to rhyme with "oath" is the traditional pronunciation.
@@OrangeShellGaminga quick Google search proves you're full of shit.
Off with his head!
@@OrangeShellGaming Does that mean I've been saying "cloth" wrong?
No, it means we've all been pronouncing sloth wrong. I only pronounced it wrong in context of the Zootopia quote.
The way he says sloth 😢
That's how you're supposed to pronounce it.
@@ToptenzNettop10It may depend on where you live. I have never once in my 62 year life heard it pronounced this way
@@ToptenzNettop10 According to who?
Idea eric: Top 10 most badass epithets for monarchs
In a study done on Egyptian fruit bats, it was found that they argue a lot. The main topics of contention are roosting spots, food, and unwanted sexual advances
Long Live Karl!
Karl. And. I. Are. Friends. So yes, long live Karl. He's awesome. He's the man. But the man is moving right now. You want some more Karl? Go here and watch the podcast we did together: ruclips.net/video/5ToF8oIZ22s/видео.html
I like the one where there's a significant crossover of intelligence between the smartest bears and the dumbest humans.
Ah, it doesn’t really apply, but your comment reminded me of the video of a polar bear that asked a person to help it, because it had a can that had been thrown in the garbage stuck in its mouth. The guy was obviously terrified, but he helped pull the can loose, freeing the polar bear. One that would apply to your comment would be like the grizzly bear guy that inadvertently filmed himself getting eaten. 🥺 He was like, I’m bonding with Mother Nature, when he ended up bonding with the bear’s lower intestine being digested
i love cats and have lived with cats and dogs my entire life. my current cat is 18 years old and is incredibly smart. She answers to all her names (her ptimary name and multiple nicknames) as well as tongue clicks. she refuses to do things like sit or say please. She enjoys admiring herself in the mirror.
Then there is my daughters cat who answers to his name, sits on command and is learning to say please. He seems confused by the kitty in the mirror.
Every cat and dog ive lived with has had their own varying levels of intelligence.
It's been proven that Crows have a language. So do Ravens and Jackdaws. And they are able to speak across speciecial boundaries.(and no, I did not misspell special)
Some elephants have even acknowledged the deaths of people they were fond of, & will annually revisit the grave or home of the person they were fond of after his passing 😮
Yeah, Elephants are pretty fooking awesome
Why does everybody hate on Eric so much? Love Whistler and Karl, but y'all mean.
He efficiently gets the information across which is a plus, but he's just not entertaining the way Simon and Karl were.
@Chalky. Yup. Information OooOoOOoO anyone read a script......not everyone has personality .
This dude is boring AF 😑
I'm good with faux steve wozniak.
i like Eric. i was shocked to see him here.
Because this isnt the channel we signed up for???
Its like ringing a friend and some weirdo wants to chat for 10mins and doesnt put your friend on the line.
Bro this isnt your phone number why you keep answering!!!
Still waiting for Karl to return
He is using the British prononciation of the word sloth….which predates the American pronunciation. So the pronunciation was “slow-th” long before it was “slaw-th”.
My cat has a special meow for when he’s about to go to the toilet 😂
In the comments for the Slowth outrage
Me too, cause I'm like, I've never heard it pronounced that way. Is that how it's supposed to be pronounced, an alternative pronunciation or what!?
Yes. That is the correct pronunciation.
The most amazing thing about animals I can think of is the vast gap between the smartest dog breed and the second smartest. If #1 is a 100 #2 is about 70 and #3 is 69. The smartest breed for those who don't know is the Border Collie.
FACT: Koko had a cat that ripped a sink out of a wall.
How did a cat rip a sink out of the wall?
@@Zackaria_sMaxbig chonker
@@Zackaria_sMax There was a famous incident where Koko ripped a sink off the wall and then when they asked her what had happed she lied and said her cat did it.
@@vashsunglasses Exactly, I don't know if they ever confronted her with the truth, it's just rather interesting that she knew it was wrong to do, and didn't want to get in trouble. Showing that she not only could communicate, but understands consequences. However, from this, I don't think she quite understood the scale of her lie with reality.
Not only do cats know when you are talking to them and recognize your voice, but I am sure my stone deaf cat (confirmed by a vet) recognizes my vibrations when I talk to her. No, she doesn't come running when I say the word "treats" like my dog and other cat do, but she does look my way whenever I speak to her. I think she also recognizes the vibrations for her specific name, because she responds appropriately to my tone of voice when I say her name but not if I say another pet's name in that tone
Koko was a scam
Recently an orangutan was seen applying medicinal leaves to an open face wound.
Thank you. My cat loves going to the beach with the dog ( all my cats have) and she’ll wait for me to say ‘it’s safe’. Yesterday I said it’s ’ no good here come down 3 shacks’ I can’t see her when I walk down but , when I could, she was waiting for me to say ‘safe’. Then she crossed the road to us. If it’s not safe she’ll wait exactly where I left her for me to come back. She’s a very intelligent girl but also suffers from selective deafness. As does the dog! Must run in the family as my late hubby had it as well 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺🐈⬛🐈⬛🐕🐕🐾🐾
If I had to live in an environment with Harpy Eagles I'd be moving slow too. They are intimidating!
I find it amusing that both presenters on these channels have also been writers, back when Bespectacled British Bloke was the host.
By the way, Karl announced a few weeks ago he was no longer going to do Fact Fiend, does Eric no longer do ScienceGet?
Either way, I find that Karl and Eric's different presentation styles complement each other, you both are doing great 👍🤓
Not surprising that the smart cat appears to be a grey and white tiger striped shorthair. They seem to have better language skills than other colorations from what I have seen.
This host is BOOORR-RRIIINNNGG! 🥱
I cannot believe he said “Slowth” that entire segment- it’s a very well known animal it’s like saying WOLOWF instead of wolf bro the number 11 animal on this list is you lmaooo nah but fr I like your commentary
It's the correct pronunciation, actually.
i taught one of my cats a trick. it has now evovled into a little kitty sign language.
9:50 I thought it was an obvious given that the forgetfulness was a trait of Dory and not her breed or species.
Koko didn't understand sign language, it was literally just a scam to keep the funding coming in so her captors wouldn't lose their jobs.
No whistleboy... No Karl ... Nope ... Oh hang on thats a smooth delivery ... Imma go listen ❤
Octopus has basically a brain in each arm and they can specialize in certain things, and remember things
I remember watching 'My Octupus Teacher' on Netflix. That was, and is, intelligent life other than ourselves forming and ultimately, bonding. I mean, it's just a free diver and an octopus 🐙, yet, it was beautiful, thrilling, astonishing, and in the end, well, I won't say. It was (for me) a roller-coaster of emotions. Honestly, I just stuck it on one day, and I'll never forget, nor shall I look upon an octopus the same ever again.
STOP MISPRONOUNCING SLOTHS
I'm not. You are. That's the traditional and correct way to pronounce the word.
@@ToptenzNettop10 a quick Google search tells me otherwise, but okay. 🤷🏽♂️ everyone's wrong but you
It's been a while. I came here looking for Simon's British accent
Animal intelligence studies are showing some impressive and truely amazing ablities.
We are aware of how interacting with humans have made animals smarter. Which they can and do pass onto the next generations. And is not that much different than how we learn.
The picture of the kitten for this looks just like mine, identical, she might know a lot of words but she is very independent
Also similar to mine. Who will from time to time show up in the background, because she thinks it's all about her.
Goldfish have better memories than we thought? So Ted Lasso lied to us???
My mom had a husky that could “talk”. One time when asked if he wanted to go outside I swear he said “no”.
Paradeila in action
@@ralfrudiger7276 I admit I had to look up what that means. I know Anthropomorphism. They seem very similar.
If I were a betting man, I would bet quite a bit of money that whales, dolphins, elephants, and cephalopods are all sapient.
4:37 When it comes to elephants, we need to look at them a different way. They are bound to think differently than we do because hearing voices of 'people' you may never meet, but take as real 'people' just because they are on your frequency is way different than most of us think. If you could hear, out of the blue, so to speak 'people' you may never meet in your life, but know that they are living beings of your type, how would that tilt your thinking? How would you credit the voices you regularly hear that your mind creates for you in relation to these foreign voices that you can somehow hear occasionally when the conditions are right?
Maybe. Or, maybe we need to re-evaluate some conditions we call 'insanity'. The 'voices' some claim to hear may be ACTUAL voices from another individual who just happens to be on the same frequency; sharing a crossover of thoughtwaves that is interpreted as insanity. The hearing of voices is common. What if curing this is as simple as a modulation of neuron frequency?
What the heck is a "Slowth"?
The traditional way of pronouncing the word.
@@ToptenzNettop10Not according to the three different audible pronunciation guides I just had to check online. Not even in the British style. I'm sorry, but you are mistaken. There have been many pronunciation errors made recently by this narrator. The wrestling video was absolutely atrocious and very hard to listen to.
Those of you who miss Simon can still go watch his videos in other channels. I do. We got used to Karl (and I love him); we can get used to Eric and become fond of him. Just give him a chance.
Eric is good, and he has improved quite a bit since he started hosting, so I'll be sticking around 👍🏻
Cool story but why didnt they just start a new channel??
Having some random guy pop up is just a skip video for me.
If you want to keep an audience this is not the way to go about it.
Catfishing is still not ok.
@@jimijamesjowitt It is my understanding that Simon didn't own these channels. If I'm right, this is why.
Bring back Karl.
Thanks.
My do you say "sloth" that way? It bothers me.
It's the correct way to pronounce it.
No. It's the Old English version of pronunciation. Which is why it sounds weird. It may be the origin of the word but it is not the "correct" way of pronouncing it.
@@saradanaerobinson6621 thanks for clarifying it. As a Sloth enthusiast myself I do agree with you.
78.
Even though you are not Karl, the information is still very interesting 🤔 that’s all that matters
Jeez came here to say the Elephant's seeing us as "cute". Is that like us looking at a puppy or kitten?
And see quite a few new host haters. Let the people grow and find their own lane of doing things and stop trying to carbon copy the past while acting like Simon just started like when he exited and forget the old days where he learned and crafted his current form for us 😅
I was hesitant with Karl for a short while, but he grew on me. Him and Simon had their own fun personality and style of reading scripts and mannerisms.
This dude is straight boring, plain vanilla 😬😑😢 I miss Karl
BRING BACK KARL!!!!!!!!!!
Bunch of people complaining about the pronunciation of sloth who have clearly never seen Holy Grail.
Or heard of David Attenborough apparently.
@@ToptenzNettop10 Fair. I just thought Holy Grail would be funnier.
Content 👍
Presenter 👎
Try again toptenz
The monotone redit voice is better than this guy
Is anyone going to comment about how to pronounce plural octopus?
What happened to Karl????
He's moving.
What happened to this channel??
Random guys every time I look (but dont watch as there is an infinite amount of people doing top10s) and I just hit skip.
Today I decided to check comments why i get these catfish spam videos.
Oh it turns out its just there idea of how to run a channel.
Silly really.
Would think they would know by now that the bait and switch clickbaits not gonna work.
Some would assume this channel was hacked or is an impersonation of the original.
Eric, you have one of the coolest names I've ever heard. It sounds like the villain in a D&D-type movie. LOL
Funny you should say that, because my tabletop shelf is usually right behind me. Though, these days, I play mostly Call of Cthulhu. I've got a few CoC one-shots coming out eventually, but I've got a ton of short stories for anthologies due and two books to finish before I can get to them.
I’ve accepted Simon’s not here anymore, but I’ve fallen in love with Karl. It’s so frustrating. Please just pick Karl as a permanent host. At least he brings humor and I’m sure he knows the word Sloth.
Well, it's clear a choice has been made on a future host here and other associated channels. If the angle of the video doesn't change, it's done. While I preferred Karl, I could tolerate this...or better Simon
Slowth? 🤔 Interesting pronunciation.
Straight from the mouth of David Attenborough.
You keep insisting that's how sloth is supposed to be pronounced. Who told you that?
Ok man, nothing personal, but where did Simon go? I been down 2 years and everything is different. In just 2 years. Wow!
Simon's writers escaped from the basement and went on strike.
@@Chalky. You've taken him hostage and locked him in the boot of his car, didn't you?
Because it is usually part of the question: Simon didn't own the channel. Original owner passed away, and his daughter, the current owner, had trouble with managing the channel(s) after her dad's passing for a while. Simon helped her with as long as he felt he should, and they have parted ways amicably around 6 months ago.
Was replaced with Karl Smallwood and Eric. Lately, mostly Eric.
Both have their own styles. Karl is northern English, and has a more "hip" or "nerd culture" style. Eric comes across to me as a more "media presenter" in style.
Want more Simon? He's still on his own around a dozen channels.
@@paulherman5822 Thanks for filling me in. I like the channel will continue to watch it.
@@SamWicker-su7rp Allegedly.
Um, NO. When it comes to the blue fish, DORY had a disability that made her forget, NOT that the species was forgetful. Please get it right. Also, SLOTH, is not slowth its SLOTH.
I just asked Karl where he got that pronunciation from, and he said David Attenborough. And since Mr. Attenborough is the foremost animal expert on the planet, we'll go with his pronunciation. This has been a PSA.
@ToptenzNettop10 yet every single dictionary in the world says otherwise. Also he said Geyser was pronounced geezer, I proved him wrong on that also.
Still gonna trust David Attenborough.
@ToptenzNettop10 you have one biologist that's pronouncing it that way. Just one. And 99% of the rest of the world is wrong??? LOL
Slow-th? Pretty sure it's Slaw-th
I liked the video until he kept saying slōth like a pretentious ta. I don’t recall it being spelled sloath.
That's the correct pronunciation apparently.
@ToptenzNettop10 I am sorry to give you a hard time. I'm being an American lol. I suppose your largest audience is in the UK. My mistake, then.
Slowth??
I, for one, welcome our new host and overlord.
All hail Eric.
Is Karl still on sabbatical?
Easy boy 65
Whats the point in these videos having a different guy???
If I wanted a different guy I would watch a differ channel.
Keep coming back to find some random guy here.
Not cool.
Unless the main guy dies you start another channel for another dude.
This is like some reverse spamming or something.
But anyways sort it out.
Nope, not the right host
How many times do you have to say the word “sloths” incorrectly and repeatedly and annoyingly every two words?
Not every region pronounces words the same
And it's apparently the correct pronunciation. We're just used to pronouncing it the other way. Karl made a point about this.
@@ToptenzNettop10 from northern England and I still think it’s the wrong pronunciation but I suppose I agree with the regional accents.
Slōth?
The traditional way to pronounce the word. You learn something every day.
I won't watch this again until this host is gone
Great subject, terrible monotonous presenter. How can he not know how to pronounce Sloth???
That's apparently the correct pronunciation.
Pronounce this word again please "Sloth"...
It's actually correct to pronounce it the way I did.
4:03 "word of bird mouth"?
Not word of beak?
Bird of mouth?
Come on man!
Question will Simon ever appear on this channel again it just seems that I'm watching a completely different channel from before
Doubtful. The owner of the channel made a video when Simon left explaining what happened.
Bad management skills due to her father passing and inheriting the channel(s) I believe.
@nunyabiznez666 Karl seems to have helped them transition quite well, and I hope his ethos has made an impression and sticks around. Dude is a right good guy.
@@nunyabiznez666 Then it should be the first video when you click on the channel.
All I see is a catfish or a hacked channel.
This is not the channel I subscribed to.
@RHCole I think he's still a writer on scripts for this sometimes, but not worth much having someone else be boring while reading it 😥
@jimijamesjowitt It's been a while......and anyone who isn't watching this channel al the time wouldn't really care in numbers. It may still be up, just not stuck at the top. Scroll from most recent til you seem a change 😐
Wow dry
No chapters?
We don't like professionalism here at top10z. Please be less professional new host. 😊
Please keep this guy. He is so much better than flock of seagulls dude.
No simon or karl. No point.
This new horror guy ain't too bad. Just cuz he isn't British doesn't mean he can't do a good job. Smh
Bye, Felicia
I can never understand what Simon is saying his accent is so insanely intense and Karl is very IM READING A SCRIPT *INSERT CORNY JOKE* so I’m likin this smooth announcer man
Terrible monotonous voice.
And how can he not know how to pronounce Sloth.
Cry me a river
Bring back Simon!!!
Stop commenting this. It's not happening any time soon no matter how many exclamation points you put at the end of a sentence. He left. If he wanted to work with the new team, he would have asked already.
Octopi, you're not 5yrs old.
Sentient? I doubt most animals ask the question, "who am I?" To themselves very often.
You're thinking of sapience, actually.
Whatever happened to Simon Whistler?
He knows what he did
What did he do, allegedly?
Booo no karl. Bye bye
Karl and I are friends, dude.
@@ToptenzNettop10 I'm aware. I'm allowed to prefer him. And don't call me dude I'm a girl
Thumbs down. Koko was a scam.
I just felt compelled to check three different audible pronunciation guides online and they all agree that "sloth" is correct and a "slowth" does not exist. Not even in the traditional British pronunciation. This narrator is becoming notorious for bad pronunciations. That recent wrestling video was very hard to get through. Besides, if "sloth" is wrong, how come I get this emoji when I type it, 🦥, and nothing when I type "slowth". Checkmate, TopTenz. 👍😂
Karl's the one that reported that pronunciation. I trust Karl's research skills.
