Watched the entire Lardy back catalogue over the past few weeks. Worryingly obsessed! I am now completely addicted. Chain of Command, General d'Armee and Sharp Practice are standing out for me. Infamy the champion though. Love every minute!
This was a super helpful video and Gd'A is my ruleset of choice...but no cavalry. You two should do a long game like this with cavalry demonstrating all of the different scenarios that could happen. Congrats David on a great ruleset!!!
Love Lardie Rules and these are no exception. They are now my Napoleonic system of choice and these videos are helpful as you try to learn new rules sets. More please guys! I'd particularly like to see filmed games of some of your less widely publicised systems such as 'Charlie don't Surf', 'IABSM', 'Mud and Blood', 'Kiss me Hardy' and 'Bag the Hun'. How about it Rich? Any plans for some of these?

Looks like a nice set of rules. Is it like Black Powder in that it's intended for unrealistically huge tables? Or will it work (with smaller forces naturally or smaller scale) on a standard 6x4 or 8x4 table? My group has settled on Black Powder with 28mm figures as it's more common here but at some point, I'd like to "suggest" trying out GdA or other similar games.
You can play GdA on more average table sizes such as 6 foot by 4 foot deep, though its always better to have a bit more depth, and I generally play on a table that's 6 wide x 5 deep.

Fantastic playthrough, it looks to be a fantastic system. Can you recommend any 15mm manufacturers for Napeonlics/black powder era? This has seriously got me considering making the leap from just doing WW2 wargaming to seeing if I can twist my groups arm into some Napoleonics.
I've been looking for a rules system to us for my Napoleonics and ACW. But, I have 10mm miniatures and 6mm miniatures. Can these rules be used with that size. I can see the rules recommend 15mm.

"Cool Uncle"! I'm only 32! Or at least that's how old I feel (I was 27 until last year when I realised that I could no longer drink 25 pints in a session and had to grow up a bit). I'd give anything to be 27 again.

Did you base these armies strictly for GdA or are these armies based for another ruleset and you are just using them for GdA? I own the rules and it's stated as long as the armies match up. So I am curious on what you based these armies for. I have two great armies ready to get naughty but I'm not sure how to base them.
ah we only allow bounce through if you actually cause casualties on the front unit as the ball may have just went into soft ground or fell short and so on.
This is a sleek design, the mechanics seem to depart from a lot of the period games in many key ways that make it a little punchier for me. I gotta try this out.
Easiest option is to visit the 'too fat lardies' website and order online. Most of their rulesets can be purchased as either hard copies (postage required) or can be bought as a PDF file.
Waited a loooonnnngg time for this playthrough, and it didn’t disappoint. Only negative aspect, to my mind, was the entirely artificial cutoffs of 5 turns for British reinforcements and 10 turns for breaking a French brigade. These sort of rigid rulings, though undoubtedly necessary, kind of break the realism of the game for me. Don’t know how I would do it better, but there it is.
Of course, this is purely a case in this scenario; where a rearguard is hoping to delay the enemy. It seems perfectly legitimate in such a situation to me.
toofatlardies - Scenario, schmemario. Yes, but what actually happens in the real world at the end of turn 10? Several units are still in combat. I suppose you could claim nightfall, and so the sides would disengage. Perhaps if turn 10 took place in twilight, thus with -1 on combat and firing (or something similar) it might make sense. At least in SP you have the justification that when Force Morale drops to zero, the will to fight has gone. But here the action just stops, quite arbitrarily.
@@sirrathersplendid4825 Well, the objective was to cover the retreat of the main army for x amount of time. That's not an artificial construct. The scenario reflects that reality. Ultimately the British could have defeated me at any time before that; I just took a huge risk of a linear deployment with no support and relied on firepower to halt the British.
toofatlardies - You certainly deserved the ‘trophy’. Seemed like a highly risky deployment with no battalions in reserve to fall back on. Yet somehow you got it to work. Would’ve been nice to see what happened to the Portuguese attack and also what caused the French arty to fall back. Footage lost in the smoke of battle...
@toofatlardies I have some of he fab lardy dice and it has been noted at our club they do roll high, especially as I am renowned for rolling low at the wrong time!
Don’t you think, guys, that it is ridiculous when a fresh light brigade which is near the Commander General, becomes hesitant in the first round of the game out of the blue sky? That is what I hate in command die roll system (which is the same in the Black Powder) and even ADCs idea does not help. Why are all game designers obsessed with this command roll system? Sometimes it looks so unrealistic! P.S. But in general I liked the rules very much.
I think you could argue that for many reasons (officers having tea, soldiers cleaning weapons, dispatch rider taking too long, orders being misunderstood, below average brigade commander etc) that this is just the friction of war. Nothing is certain, and it doesn't teally matter why, but your plan never survives contact with the enemy or the environment

Can you give me a good example of such a case in Napoleonic wars? Secondly rules should reflect regular actions at war, not very rare occasions, shouldn't they?
Basically, the command die roll has a 1 in 3 chance of making a perfectly good brigade “Hesitant”. So, with a division of 4 brigades, that’s 12 battalions, in an attack you would have 3 brigades in your front line and 1 in reserve. . Brits would have 2 batteries of foot artillery under division command In the event of no high ground being available careful choice of position, different if defending or attacking but let’s say 1 Bty. Supporting the attack and 1 to support the weaker flank. There’s a chance of 1 attacking brigade being hesitant every move and a 1 in 3 chance of your artillery. I can’t find an instance of this happening even in 1808 or in Egypt with untried troops. There needs to be some form of Command & control. ADC’s I’ve not made my mind up yet???
Chris Gosney I am quiet. If a Commander in Chief does not control his army at the beginning of a battle he may not even begin it. Plans go wrong often during a battle when command and control falls apart due many factors of an ongoing fight. But not at the beginning of it before the clash of armies.
I don't know how it will end but, at 58 minutes in, the French are severely handicapped by their dice! ( Bah! Break the center charge and then lose every decision thereafter. ) Ugh...The French did not lose, despite so many poor rolls. Battles like this are why I don't play dice games...heh
Unlike other Videos you guys are using initials for so much that someone that does not play the game has no idea what you are saying. Just letters. Its not going to get kids to play, and one day someon will roll thelast die ever used in a historical game. Cause no one bothered to encourage kids.

Lots of manufacturers, from AB to Old Glory, Blue Moon, Essex and of course Minifigs.

Originally based for General de Brigade, (of course!) However you can use any basing whatsoever.

Good vid, British rolls were generally poor against generally good French turned the battle.

A very late reply, but still. Do you mean ADCs? Its an acronym for Aide-de-camps, they functioned as a sort of assistants to commanders.
