    Just swap its i-frames into hyper armor instead, incentivises using it more aggressively and still helps you escape.

      @@Amir0 Reduvia’s WA doesn’t cost health. The ash of war that you can put on any weapon that functions identically does cost health, but costs less fp than Reduvia’s version

    For the sake of build variety, I'd maybe like to see weight % affect how far you can dash - then players have an incentive to not use the highest poise armor. This could be combined with higher FP use or whatever to limit it's use.

      I think it's the most creative and balanced suggestion here. Make it lose efficiency the same way Flynn's ring did in DS3, where wearing even a medium armor made you lose all bonuses from it.

      Just get rid of the i frames on it. Should just be a fast get out of dodge move not act as better dodge roll. Or increase the FP cost. So people can’t spam it near endlessly. The 2nd suggestion makes it only usable for mages assuming the fp goes up enough

    I wouldn't mind a higher FP cost & the ability to only be used on daggers & fists, but this is also a nice option lol.

      Putting it on an off hand weapon will buff casters so restricting it to fist weapons doesn't help

      Higher cost meaning 3-4 times more FP; you can add a bunch of weapon arts to that too. Everyone running base mind and using weapon arts more than a dozen times in a duel before needing to chug is ridiculous.

    better idea, it's a dodge.. treat it like a dodge and have it consume stamina... like it's literally that simple, make it cost more stamina (maybe double) then a normal roll, gives you better i-frames and a longer dodge but at the cost of double the stamina.
    Like if they were attacking then they immediately go into bloodhound step they aren't going to get many off before they are out of stamina, which in turn could leave them open for an attack, plus it also makes them need to think about stamina management

      good idea. only thing is stamina management is not as important as the souls series has progressed. stamina regen is insane, its nearly irrelevant in Elden ring. I think making it cost more FP might be better.

      Holy shit, you're right. It DOESN'T use stamina, which is absolutely insane. You use stamina when you cast spells, incantations or most other weapon arts. Why did they ever thing this not using stamina would be okay?

      This is the best solution I’ve seen in the entire comment section. This was intended to be used in PvE and works fine there but gets rid of the need to use actual dodge. By making it cost more stamina but less FP, people can make it a permanent part of their arsenals to dodge certain attacks with it while still using normal roll to dodge the others. Nerfing the entire usability of such a great skill only because of PvP doesn’t make sense.

    A delay between uses would work as well as a higher FP cost. And maybe it's just poise not damage immunity.

    Like others have said just like the wood grain ring in DS1 make it so only the light loads can utilize it fully and make it worse for people trying to stack poise and defense.

      You can put carian retaliation on any shield of your choice. You know, an actual counter, not a get-out-of-jail-free card for everything under the sun.

      @@Zantetsu13 carian counters 1 or 2 projectiles, let's you get hit by the rest, doesn't work on a lot of spells, and takes a while to fire its projectiles. it's broken right now, but it still loses against a mage that's not braindead.

      @@testaklese every spell is dodgeable expect stars and there is many outright spell negates in the game that are in your inventory if anything spells need a buff its been the problem since ds1

      @@Zantetsu13 a single parry does fuck all to those kinds of spells, yes you get a free counter but that implies they don't run away the moment you have it active, these multi-projecile spells have range and if you're fighting more than one sorcerer explain to me how you think you're going to parry all that shit.

    I think the problem with bloodhound step is it being in the game along with quickstep you nerf bloodhound step and you have quickstep, on a side note I think elemental dashes would be cool like have a fire quickstep that leaves flames

      You do know that the one thing quickstep and bhs cant do is deal damage so long as its being spammed. If you leave damaging trails when you dodge, not only are you untouchable but also attacking. This would be worse than the greatshield poke meta

      I really like this idea, it should be used as a disengage and not an all around invincibility hack. maybe you can get knocked out of it by ultra weapons too?

      @Dan the Axolotl i dont think it really would tbh, the only time I’ve ever felt like I needed bloodhound step was for malenias super combo, but that move in general is overtuned for sure. Plus theres still the basic quickstep in case you need an AoW with s

      @Dan the Axolotl quickstep in general is pretty garbage from what ive seen. only really useful if you are fatrolling and above, and even then there are better ashes of war that give you basically the same invincibility as bloodhound step, with a little less movement and more dangerous followups

      @Dan the Axolotl nah i agree that sometimes people can get super salty about some abilities and automatically label it as broke. Everybody thought thunderbolt was the most op thing when the game started and now nobody is talking about it. But some abilities and weapons do ruin the flow of the game not only on the pvp side but also the pve side. And altering the pvp side won’t really affect the pve side all that much unless they just nerf everything into the ground.
      But bloodhound step i think still ruins the pve aspect of the game too. It makes it so the players don’t have to carefully time their rolls for bosses and they can just mash their L2 button with an ability thats 95% s. And the reason nobody says anything about the normal quickstep is because it’s completely overshadowed by bloodhound’s, making it completely irrelevant

      @Dan the Axolotl while they obviously arent on the level of bloodhound step, the main ones i was thinking of was dynast's finesse, thundercloud form, bloodhound finesse, and of course raptor of the mists which you mentioned(with raptor of the mists being the only one thats a separate ash rather than innate). in other words even without bloodhound step, quickstep is still generally outclassed and wont see much use

    I'd like for it to have a hefty bit of end lag where your character is winded so it's good for situations you aren't landing right in front of someone but isn't just a direct upgrade to quickstep. Plus you could counter it with timed crossbow shots.

    It should have been tied to something like a darkwood grain ring and only doable with a light load. and should only be the same distance as a bb side step or a roll.

      Honestly, the only thing they really have to do is make it scale with weight.
      Make the NORMAL dash that it is right now only useable with light weight. Then reduce I Frames or Distance traveled or something for Medium weight, and reduce it again for Heavy weight. And then make it basically unusable for Overburdened.
      This will greatly balance it out, and make it so if people want the most broken version of it, they have to use very light armor or even no armor at all which is a pretty big cost to using it, but still fair for the extra I frames.

    I have become an advocate for no more invincibility frames at all. no more backstabs or parry crits, just spacing, super accurate hitboxes, and extra damage if someone is stunned from a parry or being hit in the back.

    Giving it the i-frames of a fat roll would also be good. Its harder to pull off, but you will also get the extra of covering huge distances.This move shouldnt be about i-frames but about positioning

      Fat roll has the same I-frames as a regular dodge, it just has more recovery

    Or maybe make it like the rod of discord in Terraria. Which is, if you don’t know, an item that allows you to teleport anywhere of the screen but if you use it in quick succession then it will take health from you.

      Best solution i believe, because indeed, spaming this is the problem is what i'm seeing so far, a single one proper step and proceed to roll, and so it varies.

    I think that if you increased the recovery after the s it would be balanced. Still good for repositioning/avoiding frametraps, but can be punished on read similarly to a roll but with a different timing/spacing

    I love Bloodhound but yes it needs some adjustments. a couple suggestions would be higher fp costs AND distance changes based on weight.

    i've been thinking also about what would help fix bloodhound step, funny jokes aside, even having a .5sec exit animation at the end of the step would fix bloodhound step. it would make it far easier to punish if the user is using it to slide within melee range (UGS poke, rapier bleed poke, etc) and also limit the 'overall invulnerability' of being able to spam it back to back without being nearly invulnerable between slides. It would also help promote what it arguably should be used for- a longer range single dodge, with increased i-frames. it would be viable still for backing off to heal, closing the distance to punish an opponent's missed attack that has longer cooldown (i.e missed colossal weapon heavy or readable ash of war) and for dodging through readable attacks that punish normal rolling (stars of ruin, dragon breath attacks, some wave or AoE ashes). right now there's literally 0 downside to packing a dagger or claw with it on into a build, as it has almost no weight commitment and with how unpunishable it is especially at range, benefits any build.
    faith? BH step into bestial sling, chaincast to honed bolt/
    int? slippy slidey stars of ruin, glintstone pebble, frost sword
    arcane? stay literally as far as possible and cast swarm of flies over and over again. speed of BH step lets you dodge any counter spell thrown at you. also offhand Rivers of blood for when someone gets stuck in the flies, you can close the distance in under a second.
    strength? UGS poke
    dex? rapier poke.
    people seem to be in two camps from what i'm noticing right now:
    -people who main BH step and spam it as much as physically possible, on any build that benefits it
    -people who understand it's probably getting a nerf, and *willingly* limit using it. reactionary dodges, closing a gap, dodging a big spell, etc.
    i'm actually running into more and more people in the latter group as the days go on, because after a few wins abusing BH step a lot of people are realizing how un-fun it is to be the player who's abusing it. it devolves into fights that are unengaged, L1 spam from a distance, unengaged L1 spam from in their face, or in the event of your opponent also BH stepping, unengaged 25 minute fights where the first person to run out of tears looses.

    I think maybe just adjust the i-frames and maybe fp cost. Personally I think Quickstep should have a lower to nonexistent fp cost. Though I suppose being able to use it on just about any weapon now kinda screws with that.

    For those not getting the problem with BHS.. Its because the I-frames last like 97% of the animation. Health consumption is one way of changing it, but what would be far more effective is lessen the i-frames to that of your normal roll, reduce the distance to that of quickstep and have the invisibility kick in in such a way it masks the *direction* of your dodge, not gives you immunity to damage the whole time.

    Make it cost way more stamina and maybe its effectiveness depends on your weight as well.
    So like, if you have a fuckton of endurance you can spam it and maybe wear medium armor depending on the weapon you're using it on.

    Make it where you regen what you lost for the step over two seconds, but if you use it again within that 2 second regen period, the remaining part from the first step won't regen. So basically spamming it will result in what's in your video, but hitting it once every 2+ seconds won't result in any overall HP loss.

      unless you get hit during the regen then you lose the health to add a bit of risk

      nah this looks about right- not half a healthbar, but enough that you better be escaping enough damage to justify chunking yourself.

    they just need to pick a single aspect of it and nerf that... honestly id like to see it have more range and take a second or 2 before you can recast making it so that it helps you close distances or run away but doesnt make you permanently immune as long as you have a button to press... in short more of a short range teleport than a dash (as a caster i think this would be fun to play around)

    Saw someone suggest bloodhound should work like raptor of the mists so it only triggers when you get hit. Completely bricks spamming it while still letting you use it to live through big hits both in pvp and pve

    it just needs stamina and FP cost increased. you shouldn't be able to spam 10/20/30 in a row which you can easily at the moment depending on your FP.
