      Sorry to report. The bracelet actually said "fake pilot". hahahah Seriously I've lived in Korea for years and most Koreans are so warm and welcoming, I would say more curious about foreigners than other Asian countries. I've never been to T2 at ICN but that was a great insight into the terminal. Happy travels 감사합니다. (Gam-sa-ham-ni-da)= Thank you

    Kelsey thank for posting the video, I am 79 years old. I always enjoy all watching your RUclips Videos, I also enjoy Mentour’s videos. I have been following you for several years now. Of course my favorite air plane of all time is the 747, been lucky enough to fly from California to Hawaii several times on a United Airlines 747. Some 30 plus years ago, once my wife and I flew 1st Class for SFO to Honolulu. That was quite a experience to do it once. Now about this video on South Korea, in 1966-1967 I served 13 month tour along the DMZ with the United States Army. Back then I flew on a 707 Northwest Orient from SeaTac, to Alaska, to Tokyo Japan, and finally to Kimpo Air Force in Korea. All I can say, “Wow has South Korea changed since then.

    Korean has 2 counting systems. One is Native Korean (7 = 일곱 (ilgob) 4= 넷 (net)) and the other is Sino Korean (Chinese influence) (7= 칠 (chil) 4= 사 (sa)). But as you mentioned, Hangul can be used phonetically to write words in other languages. 세븐 포 (se beun po) is what she wrote out for you.

    I've been through Incheon airport a few times as a stop on the way to Hong Kong. It's probably the cleanest, shiniest airport I've ever seen, as if it was built yesterday. They love to show off Korean TVs and other products, and my cell phone never had better service. I eventually extended one of my layovers so I could spend a week in Seoul and it was wonderful. This was pre-Covid so I didn't have the quarantine issue.

      Incheon is easily the fanciest airport I've personally been through anywhere. (Mind you, I've not been to Singapore yet.) I loved the little culture museum, the travelers rest, the huge two story mall . . . it was an experience. I confess, I love all airports. (Or nearly all. Even LaGuardia.) But Incheon was definitely special.

      @@user-wi3yx3gy2o Agreed. Narita is also a very nice airport. I've been there twice now, I think. Last time I was there there in early 2020 there was a huge construction project ongoing, so it was a bit of a mess, but I expect once that's done it'll be even better than ever. Hong Kong is impressive too and Shanghai's new terminal is fairly shiny. But I do have a soft spot for Incheon.

    • @Manu-Official
      @Manu-Official 2 года назад +9

      I get this a lot. Office smart clothing with badge and instantly recognisable company lanyard + raybans aviators, vs badge tucked under casual clothes. The difference in behaviour from other people is extremely noticeable.
      Try it some day if you can, maximum smart with white shirt + silk colourful tie + black trousers + smart coat + smart shoes, versus jeans and hoodie. People look at you vs people look through you, very obvious.

    • @Winglets68
      @Winglets68 2 года назад +7

      well there are two things.
      1. sometimes people ask you questions about the airport and get out of your way when you are walking. not necessarily out of respect but more because they think you have somewhere to be in a hurry.
      2. other pilots give you “the nod” when you walk by. it’s something i didn’t experience till i was an airline pilot but 90% of the other pilots you pass give you the nod. it’s like a little club.

    • @2dheethbar
      @2dheethbar 2 года назад +4

      I think anyone in uniform looks cool, but that's just me. I work at UPS Worldport in Louisville, KY. We have a cafeteria in the same building where flight crew get picked up or dropped off. At certain times of the night, there could be several pilots in uniform grabbing food in the caf. To other people, seeing pilots five nights a week might get old quick, but I always give them second looks. They just look neat. Lol

    • @mikoto7693
      @mikoto7693 2 года назад +2

      @@Winglets68 Oh good, I’m glad someone else asked and there were answers. One thing didn’t surprise me, the other did. I can understand people looking at uniformed pilots for a moment longer than usual if they don’t fly often so it’s basically seeing something you’re not used to and taking a moment longer to process it. Getting out of a pilot’s way is also something I would do as a matter of courtesy, but that would apply equally to all staff. Similar to getting out of the way of staff at a hospital.
      But asking questions about the airport? That’s where I differ I suppose. I’ve got no idea if pilots would actually know the entire layout of whatever airport we’d happen to be in. I sort of doubt it. But it wouldn’t make any difference anyway since if I were lost or something like that I’d look for someone who is specifically airport staff. That would seem like common sense to me.

    I used to teach English in Korea. One day I walked into the teachers' room and there were three big Tupperware containers with food. I looked in and identified them aloud as best I could: "White stuff, fried stuff, and green stuff." My Korean supervisor said, "You'll like the green stuff." The green stuff looked like little patties made with forest green play-doh. I must have looked skeptical because my supervisor said, "I've been eating meals with you for almost a year. You'll like the green stuff." I did. I loved the green stuff. I ate a ton of it. When I went home I googled it to find out what it was.
    The small private cram schools (hagwans) would feed you lunch. One day I came in and had my lunch before going to the teachers' room to do some work. Another foreign teacher came in and asked if I knew what lunch was. I said, "It's that fried tofu with the sauce on it and the green stuff that looks like grass clippings." My foreign co-worker said, "Oh! I love that stuff!" and headed off to have her lunch. The Korean co-teachers just sat there and laughed.
    There's something to be said for eating things you can't identify. It takes a certain level of trust.

I'm a touring musician and I landed there a day early cause of a booking mistake, and had to wait 20 hours for the rest of our crew and tour manager to arrive. It's a really nice looking airport. Wonderful Vlog Mr. Kelsey. I must say - this pandemic has been terrible for hard of hearing/hearing-compromised people - you can usually consider context and lip movement when trying to understand people, but with the mask, no can do. I went to UPS to mail some hearing aids, thankfully the employee connected the dots and took off their mask (which was totally fine with me).

    I got stuck in that airport about 9 years ago because the layover flight's destination had a hurricane in the area so they delayed it. I had to sleep on the airport floor along with many others then later on found a chair I could recline on next to some noisy playground. I remember taking a shower upstairs in some place I had to stand in line for. When it was about 4 hours to depart, I stood in a long ass line with a bunch of unhappy people and still wasn't going to make it to the front in time so I had to say something and skip the line with some other people so we wouldn't have to stay there another day.

    In fact, I do understand differing Covid rules. As a passenger who's maybe visiting family or doing touristy things, it's presumed you'll disperse into the general.population at some point. As a crew member, you're not only an essential worker there for a very short stay but probably also too tired for sightseeing adventures or to go out partying---which would place you in contact with many more people, should you be contagious.

    Living "The Terminal" lifestyle. I've spent enough time in airports as a passenger (and outside them with my job) to know I do NOT want to spend days stuck inside them. Nice that they had areas you could go to and some activities for the "frugal" to partake in. Nice room too, just enough to get some good sleep, not too much to get blasted by the sun, with no windows.

    I can imagine 48 hours in an airport could be quite fun. It's long enough to find all the cool stuff and feel special because you're way more familiar with the airport than most of the people who are just passing through, but not so long that there's nothing left to do. 72 hours in an airport, though...

    I’ve gotten lost there every time I’ve been. However, the cab drivers will definitely try to over charge you for a ride. I was charged $243 once I forgot how much that was in Won back then but that trip costed me $80 the time after with a different cab. They know you don’t understand Hangul or are military. It’s the cab drivers that approach you that speak English. If you’re military there’s a bus that’ll pick you up unless you’re coming back from leave.

      They have a nice train / light rail system... I never was able to get where I wanted to go, but it was nice... :)
      Unfortunately, Hertz would not honor my car rental reservation since I didn't have an "international driver's license"... And for those of you who don't know what this is, it's just a translation of your US driver's license that you can get by stopping by the local AAA office -- no written test, no driving test, just a translation, that's it...

      @@CurmudgeonExtraordinaire not disagreeing, I’m sure it’s like that in other parts but for Texas as a whole? idk man, I lived in Dallas for a few years. People took the trains or bus to work often because traffic was to bad. I’d see ppl take the highway to the nearest train station and ride the train to work. From my experience, Mass Transit in Korea is the best, there colored coordinated routes effectively touch’s every part of Korea, but taking your own transportation anywhere is always more liberating. Though I didn’t freely drive around other countries often, when I did, it was an amazing eye opening experience. I prefer America because I’m familiar with it but tbt, I have a few Asian countries on my list I’d move to right now. Every since I came back, America has been very different. It felt like going back to your old child hood home to only see new tenants insiders

      @@dariustbutler -- In in the Houston area and we describe the light rail here as "something that takes you from somewhere you don't want to be to someplace you don't want to go"...
      When in Korea, my wife and I were traveling by train and we got on this one that ended up leading to a dead end line that would not go anywhere else. That was not our intent... So, we got on the return line and went back to our starting point and tried again, following what we thought was the right signs... Ended up there yet again... So, back to the starting point one more time and my wife decided that she could navigate mass transit better than me since she is from a large Asian city with trains... And we ended up in that dead end line for a 3rd time... I'm sure the theme from the Twilight Zone was playing in the background... I ended up getting out of this by hopping one of the barriers just taking whatever I found over there... We finally ended up somewhere else and out of that never ending loop...
      I drove in Greece quite a few years ago back before cell phones had GPSs in them or moving maps and all the road signs were in Greek letters... That was "interesting"... :) I've driven in Thailand and spent a month in Taiwan where I had a scooter for the entire month and while my wife was doing her stuff, I would just randomly head towards the mountains to see where I might end up... At the end of the day, I would use my GPS / cell phone to find my way back to where she was or where we were staying even though I could not read the road signs even if the Chinese characters had an English "translation" -- "translation" being defined as the Chinese word just being just spelled in English letters... Being ex-Navy and a pilot (private), if you give me lat/long coordinates, I can get around... Maybe not the most efficiently, but I can manage... :)

    When you need to study for new procedures, what is the method? Does the chief pilot or ops manager provide an updated PDF via email? Is there a computer based training (CBT) course? Quizlet? Physical book with tabs marking the updated pages? I’m new to the part 135 world so I’m curious how different operators keep the crew updated on changes. (Love your videos!)
