Lana watching the ride monologue at Glastonbury literally broke my heart, I was sobbing. She's stood there, facing her past in words and there's something so bittersweet yet inspiring about it, the way she picked herself up and took herself somewhere she maybe necessarily didn't aim for, but somewhere greater than she ever could expect. I think the last part of the monologue changed my brain chemistry and so many others, and watching Lana relive her words is so hauntingly beautiful.
And the way she said “I love that song” after she sang it, like that’s truly a magnum opus in her career.
do you think she will quit music?😭😭
@@juniorhuante658 Lana has alluded to quitting music (or at least the fandom has interpreted it that way) after many of her albums, yet she still hasn’t done it. I wouldn’t be surprised if she has started writing new music already. So in short I highly doubt that she would quit. A short break is possible, but than again I could see Lana dropping a new album in the next 6 months.
@@juniorhuante658 Oh god I really hope not. I've seen a bunch of things on tiktok saying that ocean blvd is her last album, but then again it is tiktok and not a very reliable source. It would be such a shame to see one of the best (in my opinion *the best*) artist, songwriter and singer of the century.
Was this her recent show???
Lana has a very unique relationship to LA and fame. She idolized Hollywood prior to achieving fame, and was very disillusioned once she reached her goal. This entire EP was about her fear that fame would change her into something she isn’t. She’s still singing about these themes today. Her music video for Candy Necklaces is about what fame can do to a highly sensitive woman.
Very few reactors give Lana the time & in depth analysis she deserves. I'm SO excited to see more from you 💗
make sure you include the bonus tracks when you do ultraviolence- black beauty is in my top 3 lana songs out of all 9 albums
YES its such a stunning song, her bonus tracks are always amazing
Yes ! Also Flipside and Is This Happiness should also be included since they are on the album in other countries than the official US release
“The kindness of strangers” is also a reference to the tragic character of Blanche DuBois in the Tennessee Williams play A Streetcar Named Desire
The Paradise videos are so iconic. They elevate the entire album so much. Your analysis is very spot in. She really thinks about how all of her visuals fit together both visually and lyrically. She completely understands what she is saying and trying to project across all of her music and stays true to herself in everything she does.
She has more integrity than anyone else
Amazing how she got the concept of freedom that it portrays within the first scene
During the transition between Body Electric and Gods and Monsters, she recites a huge part of of the poem I Sing the Body Electric by Walt Whitman. Also referencing him in the song when she sings “Whitman is my daddy”.
When the strippers are going into the office party she quotes a part of the poem Howl by Allen Ginsberg.
Lana loves literary references. In her album Lust for Life there is an interlude where she recites Burnt Norton by TS Eliot as well. As an English major her references make me so happy 🥰
Edit: Sorry Burnt Norton is on her Honeymoon album!
Burnt Norton is used as an interlude in Honeymoon before Religion plays, I love it so much!
Burnt Norton interlude is on honeymoon
We stan a literate queen
it’s what she uses her philosophy degree for
You are absolutely amazing at picking up things at first listen. Its honestly crazy how accurate and good your theories are. You come off as intelligent, well spoken and overall so nice and caring. Thankyou for these reactions
Its crazy to think this was a decade ago the high quality and cinematography in her music videos is in its own class
Ultraviolence is my favorite Lana's album, is dark.. But at the same time beautiful and deep, you're so good at analizing, that's what I like of your videos, what I want to say anyways is that your either gonna love it or hate it, but it depends on what you take from it, melodies and lyrics are just pure art.
“But I am free”
Me: *on the floor sobbing*
for bel air specifically i always looked at it as them returning back the garden of eden or some version of heaven after being baptized having their souls re-cleansed especially in regards to the line “i’ve been waiting to meet/greet you” i thought refered to God
The fact that you made reactions to the bonus tracks, then the music videos, and then these videos for the Paradise Edition 🥺❤ you're the best!!!
Bel air was the first Lana del Rey song that I ever heard. My friend showed it to me and when you said your brain chemistry changed, during the video, I instantly knew that you UNDERSTOOD the art behind Lana. Bel air has meant a lot for me through out the years but the reoccurring theme in this part of my life is finding myself and pushing myself to come out as gay to my church community and to worst of all my parents. “Darling I’ve been waiting to meet you” is my favorite line because it really does show this Desire to see yourself as you really are and when you finally do you instantly find it endearing. Of course I’m not personally there yet In my journey but I hope to one day find myself as free as the ending of trópico.
The best part about all of this is that even though ultraviolence & honeymoon are my favorite Lana albums I’m most excited for you to get to Ocean Blvd. her latest album. It’s now my 3rd favorite and it’s just a perfect compilation of both her past & her more recent work. It’s mind blowing to say the least.
Make sure to include flipside and is this happiness on the ultraviolence reaction, they aren't on streaming platforms but they are a part of the album. Flipside is on japanese version of the cd, is this happiness was an itunes exclusive i believe
Don't forget Young and Beautiful! It was a single from the Great Gatsby movie in 2013, released before Ultraviolence and one of her most popular songs. It was actually written for the Paradise EP, but Baz Luhrmann convinced Lana to use it in the film instead and to alter it slightly to fit. Great music video too!
Anyway, love your thoughtful and insightful reactions. You have a real talent for this and I can't wait for the next one!
I think paradise ep is a very heavy album to listen to. That's why isn't for everyone but i love it
You really are becoming one of my favorite reactors ❤️
Can't wait for the Honeymoon reaction (her most underrated album)
Actually chemtrails took the title of "the most underrated album" now ..
i love that you actually read and listen to the comments, it makes this journey so much more fun
also when you listen to Ultraviolence, please please please also listen to the two unreleased tracks "Is This Happiness" and "Flipside", cause theyre just as good as the rest of the album🙏
can't wait for you to do your ultraviolence reaction!!! ultraviolence is one of my favorites!!!
love your lana reactions btw!!
"I believe in the kindness of strangers" is also a quote/reference from Blanche from A Streetcar Named Desire. In the play Blanche is a woman longing for her youth who is raped by her sister's husband and sent into an institution when no one believes her.
Just a reminder when listening to Ultraviolence in the deluxe edition there are two extra tracks that aren't available on the deluxe version that's on streaming platforms
Track 15: "Is This Happiness?"
Track 16: "Flipside"
You are really becoming one of my faves bc you take the time to actually talk about the content while also paying attention to it if that makes sense
LOVE that you are honest, im so excited to see youre journey with her discography because honestly, It can change youre Life ❤️
In my point of view, one of the biggest themes in her first three albums are drugs and her relationship with them, sometimes I interpret some songs that talk about Lana’s relationships (with men) as a metaphor to her relationship with drugs, esp cocaine (song like Cola, Diet Mountain Dew = Coke / cocaine), she views it as someone who never will leave her, and that’s another recurrent theme; abandon, fear of being/feeling alone (boarding school in NY) so at least she’s not alone in the garden of evil (LA). My interpretation for the last scene of Tropico when they start elevating is getting’high’, literally and metaphorically.
There's a video for burning desire, a video for blue velvet too
so excited for this series, ive been a lana fan since the beginning so i love hearing ur fresh takes on the albums ^^
Omg we are being FED 🥺❤️ thank you for the reactions!!!
Lana is literally a genius no one else thinks like her.
Just for fun for you because it’s one of your favorite songs so far, there is a blue velvet music video! It’s actually an H&M add lol. It’s meant to be like a David Lynch film. It’s strange, a little creepy even.. but it’s really beautiful!
This is a masterpiece
AAaaaaahhhhh I'm so ready for your ultraviolence album reaction
The way I too love the spooky gas station aesthetic and yet anytime I've ever traveled cross country and stopped at a rando gas station I've been a sweaty disaster about to pee myself cuz I've been driving for 7 hours but still no one can tell me I'm not serving lana. I said this is MY music video. In the middle of Ohio.
Yesss going with the flow is definitely what I think she means by just riding, I love this song with my whole heart as when things get tough I just let things happen until they get better again and just ride and deal with it the best I can. Lana is so so amazing 💗
The ride music video changed lives
Loving these reactions so much! Your detailed analyses are so interesting to hear! Super appreciate how in depth you’re getting with all these Lana videos! Can’t wait to keep watching the remaining discography :)
Im so excited for you to get to Ultraviolence!! Its her darkest era and alot of fans have Ultraviolence as their number 1 Lana album
Actually, Bell Air is a conversation between her and God. Lana: "i don't wanna be bad, I won't cheat you no more/ lead me with your brilliant direction / take me to Bel Air" God:" come to me baby, / my love, sweet child of mine, you're divine / it's ok to shine"
It's your analysis for me. Very in depth. Gods & Monsters in my fave.
There is music video for burning desire and a commercial that she did for h&m with the blue velvet song
I am so loving these reactions. Lana is my all time favorite and she’s finally getting the recognition she so well deserves. However, I’m so nervous for your ultraviolence reaction since I know how BRUTAL these fans can get. It is such a beloved album in her “standom” and for good reason, (it was my favorite album of all time for a few years in my life) but in these days if you don’t agree or like something that is widely liked, it goes 0-100 and quick! I hope it doesn’t change your honesty moving forward 💚
Loving your journey. Living for it!
PLEASE INCLUDE IS THIS HAPPINESS IN ULTRAVIOLENCE REACTION!!! I am one of the biggest Lana fans you will ever meet and it’s easily in my top 5 Lana (or anyone) songs of all time. It may be my #1.
I love your reactions to Lana's discography, you take the time to analyze and give meaning to everything, I hope you continue with the reactions and analysis. ♡
I love watching your reactions, waiting for more Lana
You're amazing and your interpretations are spot on! I'm a big Lana fan since the beginning and I'm looking forward to your LDR reactions. New subscriber here!
I already know that you gonna love Shades of cool :3
ugh i am so excited for this journey !
We NEED an ultraviolence reaction
I love that you seem more comfortable with each Lana video, your understanding of the songs are impressive. Wish you could have more time with each album, I feel like you wont love the others as much as Born to Die because of the time spent on them. We had months
I absolutely love the depth of your reactions, please keep up ❤
Queen i Love your react
Ultraviolence music videos are a must btw!
Yasss I knew it! Been waiting for it
Girl I’m so excited omg omg omg
Lana del rey is a genius
Ultraviolence is coming, I'm so excited for it it's on my top three lana albums with NFR and Ocean and it's so different from Born To Die era that it would be so interesting to see your reaction 😊
Pls 'Young and beautiful' one of her biggest singles (came out in that Time)
Love your reactions ❤️
i think something thats very interesting is the way lana conceptualize the United States as the center of her religious mythology. Is not fortuitous how in the beginning of the story in what it seems to be paradise, we found this symbols of american culture sacralized: Marilyn, Elvis Jesus and John Wayne, all this sacred subjects of the american culture so is fascinating how the become the sacred images in lana's myth. this americana esthetic follows into the next part of the story with LA representing the purgatory filled with passing souls surrounded by sin, again following the american conception of their own culture and territory. and at the end, we hear in john wayne voice how beautiful the united states, depicting it as paradise on earth, this followed by lana resurrection into this supernatural state surrounded by OVNIS, something superhuman beyond them but ultimately unknown, cause the eden, from the christian mythology, is out of the picture
LOVE youre analize youre so smart!!
AHHHH ULTRAVIOLENCE IS NEXT
8:30 she also has a song called Queen of gas station
im waiting so much for ultraviolence! your reaction videos are amazing!
I always took Bel-Air to be a metaphor for heaven and that when she says I've been waiting to meet you she's not talking to Bel Air she's talking to a loved one because she's arrived and she had been waiting to see them again. Or maybe even God and she had been waiting to meet him.
Not to rush (maybe a bit 😊)...I'm so excited for ultraviolence
I think also a more subtle message relating to Marilyn, John Wayne, and Elvis being religious idols for her plays into the idea that her heaven - her peace - is the worlds that they created and inhabited. All of which where gorgeous and comforting on the outside but underneath were much darker. Its a very pessimistic take on a personal heaven concept but thats Lana 😆
Can't wait for Ultraviolence, and yes brace yourself haha
I would also like to point out that Body Electric is a poem by Walt Whitman, who she references in the song as well (: i recommend reading it, it definitely adds an extra layer to the song
Loved this reaction! Lana changed my brain chemistry forever, and changed the way I listen and discover music. She gave me freedom to discover the music I like and she gave me insight to the meanings that music could hold. I was 13/14 when I discovered Lana, right after she released Ultraviolence and being so young and impressionable she influenced me so much, I have to admit I haven't felt a connection with her music since Norman Fucking Rockwell in 2019, which saddens me because her writing is genuinely amazing, but sonically it doesn't do it for me as much anymore (still like around half the songs on her past 3 albums though). Anyways, thank you for taking the time to dive into all of her earlier work as much as I used to as an obsessed teenager lmao. Super excited for your UV reaction! Beforehand though, I would love you to react young and beautiful as it's really a perfect way to close the born to die/paradise era lyrically, and thematically ties btd/para to ultraviolence. Thank u
I sing the body electric is also a poem by Walt Whitman 😊
I am obsessed with watching you on your LDR journey. I cannot wait to watch you listen to Ultraviolence and beyond. The dramatics and emotions only build as you get to know her 😭
Love all ur LDR reactions and hope for Florence and the machine reactions are coming soon too😍
Burning desire and blue velvet had visuals too 😭
Amo ver tus reacciones a Lana ❤ y estoy muy entusiasmado por ver tu reacción a UV y Honeymoon 🤩
I am so excited for you to react to Ultraviolence next.
Some spoilers to it:
It has bonus tracks (3 of them)
The back half of the album is sardonic.
The closing track is a cover of Nina Simone.
Track 12 (on the deluxe edition) leaked back in 2013 and the previous tracklist was scrapped when "Angels Forever" (unreleased btw) leaked.
The album is a result of many label disagreements.
I’m so ready for you to listen to NFR
Ultraviolence it’s completely different from born to die, it’s more slow, dark and caotic
She also has a song called “queen of the gas station”
Lana says shes a poet first and a singer second
you forgot to do the burning desire music video
You are incredible, never seen someone listen to Lana with those precise comments in firsf watch. And yes, Ultraviolence is a HUGE masterpiece. It grows every time that i listen to it, so its okay if u not enjoy it The first time cause, cause it Will definely happen sometime.
there's a mv for burning desire as well but its like a car commercial so forget it
Always thought this short film was a Life/death movie. Bel Air being when Lana and Aaron Greene meet in limbo and move on to paradise at the end scene.
I knew you'd fall in love with American
YASSSSSS TROPICO
Blue Velvet also has a music video but it’s just an H&M commercial (sorry if was already mentioned!)
I'm excited for ultraviolence, a very different album
You need to hear "Queen of the Gas Station"
Body electric is the fucking coolest literary reference evr..Body electric is the name of the poem that she reads..written by Walt Whitman, and it's a celebration of life and flesh (the body) and the video recreates the life of the body, the creation and she attaches her own poetry and visual references with Marylin, Jesus and Elvis too (not fan of John wayne being god concept for sure) ..and I have no words for the cinemaography, I mean..comme on
The entire short film for me talks about being able to go on “rehab”. The film starts with clubs, substances as well as alcohol and then the entire film goes to a peaceful place, end and claim the forgiveness from god for what they did.
before god and monsters starts she says “L.A. L.A. L.A.”
you love the gas station aesthetic??!!!! girl go listen to queen of the gas station by her it's literally ride but lizzy grant version
wow you are so spot on with your analysis!! she recites two poems: one by Walt Whitman from leaves of grass and one from Allen Ginsberg from Howl
The latter is part of the beat generation and Whitman was their inspiration
Never clicked so fast. Saludos desde Perú 🇵🇪❤️🔥
YAY
The end is them repenting and going back to Paradise.
