Scalebearer Bull Rush epitomises Quake Champions Abilities perfectly, very much like Scorpions Spear from Mortal Kombat. It's a great move that is deadly at the right time.

I discovered Scalebearer on a gaming event (Gamepolis 2k17) when QC was merely a closed beta. I inmediately loved the champion, no matter what he does, he deals damage, even when moving... I won with him almost all the deathmatches I was involved and got some cool stuff from Acer/Predator.
Now he's my main and I'm digging Keel

Awesome guide for my favorite Champion! I love doing the combos with shooting and the active and passive abilities that you demonstrated extremely well here. I actually often run around with the chainsaw out when I spawn before I obtain a choice weapon, and combo the melee with stompers and bull rushes. lol It's a really fun technique once you get good with controlling his movement.

I love going through tunnels with the gauntlet; you do the heavyweight damage and then saw them in the blink of an eye. Going through tunnels with the gauntlet works with all of the champions but especially with Scalebearer.

I’d be interested to see what you think of (the criminally under appreciated) Unreal Tournament 4’s movement system and how you think it compares to Quake Champion’s (I specifically say UT4 bc unlike in previous UT games, it has wall jumping, wall running and crouch sliding)
I don't think that game will ever see a playerbase whatsoever so I've been sort of avoiding it to be completely honest
Ahh I have faith that in time it will:) development on UT4 stopped when epic moved it’s devs to fortnite to capitalise on the br fad. Once that game fades away as is already starting to happen, I think epic will move the devs back. I don’t think UT4 will get cancelled like Paragon. Unreal Tournament is Epic’s legacy.

I feel like getting into speed is slower now, before i was at 500 everytime, but now I feel if I were constantly in 300s and 400s.

Development has never been better in this game. The things coming out in the next few months are going to be stellar, and the team is working overtime to get the game in tip top shape for Quakecon later this summer. I am hopeful that when it goes free to play, we'll see a big surge in player numbers!

I hope QC is successful. There aren't that many successful arena shooters, I don't know if it's because it's not something that can be mainstream or whether it's because developers always miss the boat or are just not able to capture that lightning in a bottle.
I'm really sick of Battlefield, CoD and I just can't get into this craze of Battle royale games nor the endless amount of survival games. I feel like I've been left behind and I'm just going to have to cling onto the hope that arena shooters don't remain niche genre.

Dunno if all the things explained in the video are still possible in the current version of the game. I have 2 problems with Scalebearer. Sometimes when i use bull rush, it just collide with my opponent and does 0 dmg. Dunno if only happen when i use the ability to close. Also I can't turn when im in bullrush, dunno if is because my sense is to low, but i saw pros do like 180 turns. I don't know what i'm doing wrong :(

hey man, idk why am I posting this here. I bought Quake Champions a day before yesterday, because I used to play Quake 3 and Quake live, and was quite good at these fast paced arena shooters. But, there happens to be no servers in Asia, and I tried playing but never found any player around even in the peak hours...
Running over small gaps reminded me of the original Super Mario Bros.

What is the distinction between, when you bull run, and you pull up your arm and gib them... versus just knocking them back and they take a bit of damage. I am having a hard time figuring out the difference and where I need to aim.
Also, when you charge into a jump pad to bull rush someone that just went into the jump pad, when is the best time to activate your ability.
Last one.. I noticed on the Longest yard map that you can't bull run across the map with the two spring pads that launch you forward to the mirror side of the platform.. is there a way to do this so that you can follow an enemy and still clear the jump?

Do you think that the introduction of champions takes a bit of skill from the game? I'm not a Quake veteran or anything like that, but personally, I don't like the inconsistency that champions bring to the table, like, getting used to two-shot someone with the railgun but then a heavy dude appears and takes three or four shots before going down.
I'm also not a fan of the special abilities like sorlag's and the ability of the dude with the shoulder-mounted grenade launchers.
It's nowhere near as bad as you might think. Quake has always been a game of big variance in the numbers of shots to kill, since health values can naturally swing into the 300s in many games if you control the map hard enough. Knowing exactly how much damage you need to kill somebody doesn't feel random at all, it's more of a skill to understand their current "stack" as it's called.
I totally am on the same page as you with these concerns, I shared the exact same ones when I was starting to play. With time though, I learned that the impact is just not that great and it doesn't sour the game at all.

I found it hard to understand what u were talking doing while going down stairs....
Pretend you're strafe jumping when going down stairs, but just don't press the jump button while on them. You'll gain speed when you naturally bounce off of them!

Frothy thanks for the reply! I should try him out. I guess on an advanced level like you said there’s things you have to “unlearn” and pros don’t use him, but that’s a whole different world than a beginner.
