The most randomly gendered thing I remember from my childhood was the Yorkie chocolate bar back when it said “not for girls” So, at the tender age of like 4, I made it my favourite chocolate bar out of pure unfiltered spite. I remember I’d pick it up and it slap it down on the counter with defiance in my eyes, daring the cashiers (who gave zero shits about a kid buying chocolate) to tell me it’s for boys. Young me really thought I was doing something by eating Yorkies 😂

This! As a bit of a handywoman, I can attest that most of modern tools with those ergonomic handles are actually harder for me to use than the older plain-handle equivalent tools. And a spot on just calling them for "smaller hands/grip", as my boyfriend has quite small hands for a cis-man and finds those ergonomic handles as bothersome as I do.
Yep, same. I have small hands, so my set of tools is almost identical to the one in the video - this is one case where gendering actually has a function, though it's based on statistical averages and totally could have been labeled "small grip". It's way safer to work with tools which are the correct size and can be held securely, so I'm grateful that the option exists -unlike the rest, my glue stick and pens do not need to be changed in any way from my male partner's.

My mom is literally building our home while my dad is inside cooking. So i just want to thank the companies making this possible by selling tools for my mom and pans for my dad
I remember when I saw my uncle had a "man cave" where he would play darts, pool and go on his pc. I said to my dad "I want a man cave!!" and he said, "You can't you're a girl" (i was like 8) that was the moment I hated gender stereotypes. I'm now 14 and Bigender and I still hate gender stereotypes!
I hope you get your man cave at some point if you still want one.:) I have wanted a garage for tinkering, but it's impossible while living in a condo. We can't afford a house, and don't really want one either, because having a house seems more like a lifestyle than just a place to live. But now I have finally realized what the balcony is for.x) Currently I have two projects drying up there, and one more waiting to be painted. The balcony has kind of like windows to make it protected from the rain and snow. Sorry, I don't know what they're called in English.;) Anyway it's my tinkering space that doubles as a place to relax and enjoy a bit of fresh air.
To be honest, I think that’s all AFABs experience growing up. I want to do x but because I’m a girl I feel like I can’t/it’s not allowed etc. Growing up I really really wanted to be a professional footballer, I used to be so annoyed that it would never happen, or at least I wouldn’t have the same success as males. Weirdly, two girls I grew up with in a tiny village in north east England went on to become professional footballers, one now plays for England and is on loads of ad campaigns and stuff. So maybe I could have. Either way, it’s rubbish growing up thinking you can’t do something because of your gender.
I remember once when I went to school and the other kids made fun of me because I had a wallet "for girls". Just because of the cute dog pin on it. Even then I realized how stupid that reaction was.

And I was like “this is stupid, I am a girl and I like Pokemon” I was so angry and I was like eight.
There are a lot more Pokemon products for boys and girls in Japan, even if sometimes the girl products might be more stereotypically girly but they acknowledge Pokemon are enjoyed by everyone, I don't understand why the Western Pokemon marketing always only targets boys, they also did the same with Yokai Watch and way worse honestly, in Japan you can buy merchandise of the female characters but not in the West :/
@@ihavea1tbshotahentaifolder431 Honestly, it annoys me how pink and limited girl toy sections (and clothes) are. It's like only dolls and pink/purple things allowed. I'd add legos, beauty/crafting sets and plush toys to the list, but they're mostly pink/purple anyway so that's redundant.

@@butterskywalker8785 Maybe. Either let them choose when they get older or call them girls and boys, but minimize the importance of the differences. Let it be just a descriptor of how they're born not everything they're supposed to be and like. Just don't gender kid things, not to the degree they do now. Let the toys be sold together, in all colors. So if a girl wants a superhero lego set or a boy wants a cooking set, they don't have to feel conscious just for going to the "wrong" part of the store. Let them freely explore and be kids.

When it comes to hand-tools, I do need the women's size because they fit more comfortably than the same tool sized for men. It's that same reason there are women's basketballs, because they were originally designed to be optimal for male hands, so smaller ones had to be made to be optimal for women's hands. The purple tools are unnecessary, but the sizing helps.
@@gloriamontgomery6900 If women with larger hands can comfortably use the men's sizing, power to y'all. Me and my baby hands will have to stick to the purple sheers, I guess.

@@trekadouble757 often though things for men like shoes and razors are better made than the same things for women. Women are advertised to more that they need to keep up with new fast fashion and a million skincare things to stay young and desirable. Not saying this doesn't increasingly apply to men but women are consistently sold the same or worse for higher prices.
@@trekadouble757 the products for men are same or a bit better in quality than women's and there's this sexist atmosphere around the woman's product... Either a attitude "women don't really need to have this" or "Women are delicate, so their products should be too" which are both wrong...and also, they know women usually need razor to shave their private parts too.. it's just so unfair that men's razor usually cost less when they have almost same purpose...if there's no difference in quality, there shouldn't be discrimination in pricing
@@trekadouble757 Because I've seen it. I'm not saying that every product is like that, but I've seen razors that had the exact same mold, same care strip thingy (don't know what it's called), no difference *at all* other than one is pink and the other black and marketed as women's/men's. The pink ones were 5/package, the black ones 10/package. The pink ones cost more. Literally less product for more money. (Not to mention that even if razors cost the same, women would still pay more since they are expected to shave more, but that's a different topic entirely.) Also earplugs. I've seen some silicone ones advertised as being noise cancelling, waterproof, etc etc. They were transparent. Then there were pink ones, "for women". Advertised as being pink. They were smaller and cost more. Women's deodorant is utterly useless while often costing more. Yes, men's products and women's products might have different ingredients or smell different. But that is no reason to make women's products more expensive. They do it because they can.
Shaaba: You need to lower the expectations that come with your introductions! Jammi: but that would be lying... Oh my god they're so sweet I love them both.
Fun fact: if you google search pictures for clocks or watches, almost all of them will say the time “10:10” because for some reason that is the most aesthetically pleasing time to read on an analog clock/watch, and therefore the best time to put on them for an advert
i think its usually around "10:08" or "10:10" on analogue clocks because its supposed to be like arms going upwards so its supposed to seem happy if you get what i mean? like when children draw stickpeople, the arms typically go upwards when its smiling. anyway, i hope you have a good day and i hope i didn't bother you with a notification or anything :)

i feel like deodorant and stuff like that should be labeled for their strength and stuff, not genders, because not all girls have low amounts of sweat, as not all men sweat heavily... but thats just one example
I'm cisgender female, and I find it helpful when deodorants are labeled as men's and women's, because I know immediately which ones to avoid. I find deodorant and soap made for women has a very small range, basically from flowers to flowers, and I like exactly zero of them. My current obsession is Tom's Tea Tree Oil deodorant and Axe Dark Temptations for shower gel. I smell like mint chocolate chip ice cream by the time I'm done. :)
True. Also why do deodorants need to have fragrance? If you want fragrance, you can use perfume. The deodorant works by blocking sweat glands (or whatever similar method), so it doesn't need fragrance to mask any smells.
My mother pointlessly genders stuff all of the time My sister and I are both pregnant at the same time, mum bought some dungarees for sisters baby (a boy) they arrived and she said "he can't wear them they're girls dungarees!" People who are assigned female at birth do tend to have smaller hands, hence you could legitimately make tools to fit said hands better (since all tools are designed for the average male at birth hand). They should just be labelled with different sizes though, just like gloves are.

Fun fact, the reason why video games are considered something for boys is because when video games came around, toy aisles were already separated by gender, so video game companies had to choose a side, and they picked boys.
Considering I'm cis female and straight, yet gamed since I was like 5 years old playing Nintendo64 and Dreamcast, I always found it funny when people thought games were for boys lol people were shocked when I told them I was a gamer in school because "You play games and you're a GIRRL?" it's like damn, didn't know there was a rule for that lmao.
I'm nonbianary right (I look female) and I wanted to buy a pair of boots. I was in the mens section (I go there more often than I'd like to admit lol) and I was told by one of the staff that I couldn't shop in the mens section and then pointed me the way to the womens section. Honestly it was so embarrassing and I couldn't stand up for myself. But like I wasnt even out properly yet then so I just felt super awkward. So basically I just want to say sorry to everyone who has also experienced this because its embarrassing and it sucks
Ok but wait, the tools could actually have sense. I often struggle to operate typical tools because I have small hands. I always dreamed of having a kind of 'XS tool set' that would fit my grabbing ability (not gonna change that phrasing, it's too silly) but with colours like that I would definitely pass. Besides, that gendered tools are too basic. I need a fricking angle grinder and hammer drill not a mere screwdriver (those always have a handle that fits every hand). Varieties of tool models: yes, gendered tools: pointless.
I had the same thought as I have super small hands myself but then I saw the description. "in stylish colors". So.... You probably made the same exact tool but it's purple and double the price. And we still don't get better suited tools
My mum bought me a floral tool kit once. Sorry, kitchen drawer kit. Scissors, tape measure and a really cool screwdriver with interchangeable ends and several heads. All very floral. I always joke they'll make my husband's hand fall off but damn the screwdriver is good 😂
Yes, this!! Instead of adding 'girly' colours to tools, it would be great if companies would spend their time & money making tools that work for different sizes of people. I find things like riveting and crimping so much harder than they should be because my hands are too small to wrap around both handles of the tools
I feel like the "woman's tools" are supposed to be designed for smaller hands, which does seem useful, although specifically gendering them and making them purple is a bit dumb
But often times these kits are identical to "regular" ones, or those for men, the only difference is the colour of the box and handles (pink or purple) and they aren't smaller or any different at all, from what I've seen in many hardware stores.
nah my hands are about average but i can tell i´ve seen people with both giant hands and very tiny hands use my standard tool set with no problems. Usually the scale is mostly for things that require precision, and up to certain degree, like small cutting pliers for small cables like the ones on an electronic component and such, and big ones for a different calibre perhaps for an electric or mecanic component.
I'm writing a speech for english class, and I chose to write it on why men can/should wear pink (it was a certain selection to choose from, this is not my wording). I'm also writing in more "why is this stuff gendered" into it, partially inspired by these videos of yours! Just wanted to share 😊💛

@@anias4395 That's what I thought at first too, but you'd think they of all people would know better than to gender a product just because of its size, and you could probably achieve the same results by listing small/medium/large

The most randomly gendered thing I remember from my childhood was the Yorkie chocolate bar back when it said “not for girls”
So, at the tender age of like 4, I made it my favourite chocolate bar out of pure unfiltered spite. I remember I’d pick it up and it slap it down on the counter with defiance in my eyes, daring the cashiers (who gave zero shits about a kid buying chocolate) to tell me it’s for boys.
Young me really thought I was doing something by eating Yorkies 😂
I am a grown adult and I still get gender euphoria from Yorkies
Haha same. I ended up coming out as nonbinary so my weird rebellious obsession with them made way more sense in hindsight. Although I recently looked back at the ad campaign and its so much worse than I remember it being as a kid
That and McCoys crisps which ran an absolutely awful ad campaign about a man doing something vaguely feminine while eating McCoy’s and he gets sucked into the sky because “McCoy’s isn’t for women”. At the time I thought it was stupid because they’re fucking crisps oh my god.
Oh man the McCoys man crisp ads were so weird. Like all they managed to do was make masculinity seem super fragile
.
To be fair, that was the entire point around Yorkie. It was entirely taking the mick out of pointlessly gendered things.

I can see "women hand tools" being legit if they were for smaller hands. But then they could just be "small hand tools"
Thank you! I thought about that, too. I have small hands and I would be happy if there were smaller tools so that it is easier for me to use them.
I'm a girl and my hands are HUGE. So are my feet. And now that I think of it... I'm pretty tall in general. If I was a guy I'd probably be a hero amongst my friends. Now I'm just awkward. Why is the world like this??? *sobs*
"The Man Cave Where Manly Men Do Manly Things" does have gay vibes. Because of course, the most manly thing for manly men to do is other manly men.

As a cis girl, gender stereotypes are my arch-enemies
To be honest, I think that’s all AFABs experience growing up. Weirdly, two girls I grew up with in a tiny village in north east England went on to become professional footballers, one now plays for England and is on loads of ad campaigns and stuff. So maybe I could have. Either way, it’s rubbish growing up thinking you can’t do something because of your gender.

When it comes to hand-tools, I do need the women's size because they fit more comfortably than the same tool sized for men. The pink ones were 5/package, the black ones 10/package. The pink ones cost more. Literally less product for more money. i gifted my stepsister's* boyfriend(?) a shower set. neutral fragrance, brown on white packaging.
the whole evening she'd tell him he's a girl for getting(!) this gift.
cishets are so wild.
all the white glue sticks are now only for enbies,it's official, you're not getting them back
hehe finger glue goe snep
As an enby I can officially confirm you’re not getting them back
Can we take the purple ones as well?
As a cis person I'm really here for enbies slowly taking over everything. Honestly, under almost every video there's a comment where an enby claims something else as theirs.
I mean y'all are superior and that's just a fact
white gluesticks are now enby culture spread the word
I was pouring water carefully into my iron and Jamie says "I want to shit glitter!!!"
There was no more carefully.
I have a crush on both of them! They’re so sweet and hilarious.
men: drink beer
women: drink wine
nonbinaries: drink straight up whiskey
Before I came out and presented female, I had this old guy insist on telling me that I don't look like I drink beer, I look like I drink red wine, even though I just told him what beers I'd recommend on tap (I worked in a bar), having just tried them in order to give said recommendation. Furthermore, I also drink red wine. :P
No , they drink 100% pure fucking alcohol
Everclear?

Fun fact, the reason why video games are considered something for boys is because when video games came around, toy aisles were already separated by gender, so video game companies had to choose a side, and they picked boys.
Huh. That’s really interesting, actually.
@ThatCatVal not very often, I haven't seen that episode.
Never seen video games in the toy isles they were always in the electronics isles.
I remember when the toy aisles were gendered.

I went into the comments section specifically to see if someone else brought up this point. Tools made for smaller hands make sense.
I heard they sold "woman" tools here and thr grip was smaller and some liked it.
But now i also want "boy" mops so a longer handel.
Just 4 girls are used in the production of each pink Pritt Stick.
Specifically for the 4 girls that are allowed to use it
They are so adorable and wholesome oml
I love this channel sm
I feel like the "woman's tools" are supposed to be designed for smaller hands, which does seem useful, although specifically gendering them and making them purple is a bit dumb
But often times these kits are identical to "regular" ones, or those for men, the only difference is the colour of the box and handles (pink or purple) and they aren't smaller or any different at all, from what I've seen in many hardware stores.
Well I now need to tell my mum and my sister they are men because we have big arse hands in our family 😂
They are not. They are just a different colour. Also, as a cis woman with tiny child hands I can easily hold all tools.
nah my hands are about average but i can tell i´ve seen people with both giant hands and very tiny hands use my standard tool set with no problems. Usually the scale is mostly for things that require precision, and up to certain degree, like small cutting pliers for small cables like the ones on an electronic component and such, and big ones for a different calibre perhaps for an electric or mecanic component.
Yes, but my brother has the tiniest hands and I love making fun of him for it

I'm writing a speech for english class, and I chose to write it on why men can/should wear pink (it was a certain selection to choose from, this is not my wording). I'm also writing in more "why is this stuff gendered" into it, partially inspired by these videos of yours! Just wanted to share 😊💛
