That's what I call a successful collaboration 😅 As a native German speaker, I enjoyed trying to understand some of what she was saying as well! What a sweet lady!
This video was waaaayyy too short. 😔 Your mom is so cute in appearance and in character. 😊 I loved watching the interaction. Will there be a part two? 🙏🏼❤
Did you know that Singer makes a modern machine that is treadle driven? I don't remember what they call it (and I'm blocked from their website as I'm outside of the USA) but I know that they are really popular amongst the Amish and with many people that live off grid. It's a simple modern machine with all the stitches and other features you'd expect, but you use a treadle to power it rather than electricity. You can fit it to most vintage treadle bases.
@@Jen-CelticWarrior Both the Janome and the treadle base are available at Lehman's, a company that has a lot of non-electric home and agricultural appliances.
Such a heartwarming video. I am so glad I learned to sew because my mom was also a sewist. I had not sewn for many many years (40)and recently picked it back up. Mama has passed away now & I can feel her looking over my shoulder as I sew. It is beautiful how we had sewing and other things to bond over. I regret not learning to crochet though. I really enjoyed seeing your Mama … more please! More Mama 😊
Your mom is adorable. Is that Plautdietsch? you should do a whole video just on being Mennonite. Wonder what she'd think of my computerized Pfaff with a screen on it. She has way more skills than I do though
This is such a sweet video, your mother seems like a wonderful woman. She seems like someone who would have a lot of stories! It's great to see you having fun together!
What a beautiful way to start my day! Your Mom is so cute, and I adore the loving interaction between the two of you. What a fantastic relationship you have! We need more of your mom.
I'm in Australia, Mennonites are not very common here. Your Mum is just gorgeous! Back in the early 1908's, my siblings and I bought our Mum a brand new sewing machine. The only boy in our family went through the complimentary lessons, and taught his mother and 3 sisters how to use the machine. I was so proud of him!
Just when I thought I couldn’t enjoy you anymore than I already do… you bring your Mennonite Mom on your channel and speak the language with her! Much Love Cornelius! 👏👏👏
I absolutely adore your mom and the love and humour that you both share with each other. Thank you for allowing me to learn more about your guys’ story and about Mennonite culture, today is the first time I heard Plautdietsch!
I think my mennonite grandma probably used the same dress pattern for 30 years. Before that it was a different pattern that had probably been used for decades as well. The difference was that at some time in the 1970s she started using poly doubleknit for dresses instead of more traditional woven cloth. No doubt she thought the poly was more practical! Regardless, her dresses, only in those 2 styles, looked like they had been designed in the 1930s. Thanks for this video with your mom. I really enjoyed it.
I have my Great grandmother's Singer sewing machine. It's absolutely beautiful it flip's inside a wooden sewing table with gorgeous Art Deco inlays on the wood, inside the drawers are the original guarantee & instruction manual for 1909. The woman who owns my local haberdashery is using a similar Singer machine hers isn't as old or in it's own table, but she absolutely loves the way it stitches. Pass on my regards to your Mother 🌻💙💜🏴
I will do that and oh wow, that sounds like an absolute gem of a machine/table combo that you have. I imagine it is a stunning as it sounds and a keeper for sure!
You're lucky! It's not difficult to find such machines, but they've often been badly neglected and are in anything but 'mint' condition. I would love to own one, that's an actual heirloom and has always been treated with care.
@batya7 I have my Grandma's treadle base and then my son found an old machine tossed into a trash pile. It is quite nice. I cleaned it up, put in the treadle base and it sews a perfect stitch!
I love the videos you've made with your family members, y'all are too funny! Growing up, my parents had a grandmother or neighbour making all their clothes on Singer machines like your mother's. They've talked about how fun it was picking out fabrics and going in for fittings, and the nostalgia now having me sew for them. It's been useful taking my parents fabric shopping since they know a lot about fabrics and have great taste. But when I was making a shirt for my mom for the first time, it was a loose fit with strap sleeves, my dad was adamant on his choice of a sparkly swim fabric! It ended up being pretty nice for the beach! 😂
See now this is how us girls should be ! This is my favorite video just found ya ty ! She’s perfect! Love her so much she’s sweet and so smart ! I was taught traditional sewing and raised old fashioned! Love this ! Ty
My paternal grandmother was raised in a Swiss Mennonite community. She went on to live a much more "worldly" life than her parents did, and I never met my great grandparents, so I'm not too familiar with the culture. I imagine, however, that my great grandmother might have dressed and talked a good deal like your mother does. She's adorable, by the way. 🥰
Cornelius, may I ask you what are your tips to buy drafting tools? Like favourite materials, manufacturers, things to consider before purchasing them... you know. Would you make a video on the subject? I recently threw mine away (cheap, made of plastic, taped up all-over... the student's sweet life! 😅).
My Mamaw and mommy had a machine just like that ! No electric I’m from Kentucky so it was common here to have these old machines without lights and foot pedals! Lol you can’t teach an old dog to howl! You’re a blessed man to have such a lovely mommy !

We will most certainly do another one at some point :)
I have that same pattern and have made a number of shirts over that pattern. Doesn’t your mom have a seam ripper? I think she needs one! 💙
Absolutely charming! Hope to see more of the "metamorphosis of Mom"❤ You have a lovely relationship 😊
Loved the modern shirt your mum made. It's just like what I end up with when I sew mine. Thank you Mama Quiring for always being such a good sport!
